An Everlasting Covenant

⁵⁹ Yes, thus says the Lord God: I will deal with you as you have done, you who have despised the oath, breaking the covenant,^(A)

¹⁹ Therefore thus says the Lord God: As I live, I will surely return upon his head my oath that he despised and my covenant that he broke.

⁸ while for those who are self-seeking and who obey not the truth but injustice, there will be wrath and fury.^{(A) 9} There will be affliction and distress for everyone who does evil, both the Jew first and the Greek,^(B)

Judging Others

7 “Do not judge, so that you may not be judged.^{(A) 2} For the judgment you give will be the judgment you get, and the measure you give will be the measure you get.

¹³ He took one of the royal offspring and made a covenant with him, putting him under oath (he had taken away the chief men of the land),^{(A) 14} so that the kingdom might be humble and not lift itself up and that by keeping his covenant it might stand.^{(B) 15} But he rebelled against him by sending ambassadors to Egypt, that they might give him horses and a large army. Will he succeed? Can one escape who does such things? Can he break the covenant and yet escape?^{(C) 16} As I live, says the Lord God, surely in the place where the king resides who made him king, whose oath he despised and whose covenant with him he broke—in Babylon he shall die.^(D)

⁴ Therefore speak to them, and say to them: Thus says the Lord God: Any of those of the house of Israel who take their idols into their hearts and place their iniquity as a stumbling block before them and yet come to the prophet, I the Lord will answer those who come with the multitude of their idols,

Then you shall know that it is I the Lord who strike.

Then you shall know that I am the Lord.^(A)

³² It will not be like the covenant that I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt—a covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, says the Lord.^(A)
