³⁰ backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, ^31 [a]undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, ^[b]unforgiving, unmerciful;

They have committed adultery with their idols, and even sacrificed their sons ^(B)whom they bore to Me, passing them through the fire, to devour them. ³⁸ Moreover they have done this to Me: They have ^(C)defiled My sanctuary on the same day and ^(D)profaned My Sabbaths. ³⁹ For after they had slain their children for their idols, on the same day they came into My sanctuary to profane it; and indeed ^(E)thus they have done in the midst of My house.

Jerusalem’s Harlotry

^15 (A)“But you trusted in your own beauty, ^(B)played the harlot because of your fame, and poured out your harlotry on everyone passing by who would have it.

⁸ “When I passed by you again and looked upon you, indeed your time was the time of love; ^(A)so I spread ^[a]My wing over you and covered your nakedness. Yes, I ^(B)swore an oath to you and entered into a ^(C)covenant with you, and ^(D)you became Mine,” says the Lord God.

^31 (A)You shall not worship the Lord your God in that way; for every ^[a]abomination to the Lord which He hates they have done to their gods; for ^(B)they burn even their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods.
