⁴⁵ You are a true daughter of your mother, who despised^(A) her husband^(B) and her children; and you are a true sister of your sisters, who despised their husbands and their children. Your mother was a Hittite and your father an Amorite.^(C)

⁸ In one month I got rid of the three shepherds.

The flock detested^(A) me, and I grew weary of them

³⁰ slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents;^{(A) 31} they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love,^(B) no mercy.

³⁷ for they have committed adultery and blood is on their hands. They committed adultery with their idols; they even sacrificed their children, whom they bore to me, as food for them.^{(A) 38} They have also done this to me: At that same time they defiled my sanctuary^(B) and desecrated my Sabbaths.^{(C) 39} On the very day they sacrificed their children to their idols, they entered my sanctuary and desecrated^(D) it. That is what they did in my house.^(E)

¹⁵ “‘But you trusted in your beauty and used your fame to become a prostitute. You lavished your favors on anyone who passed by^(A) and your beauty became his.^(B)

⁸ “‘Later I passed by, and when I looked at you and saw that you were old enough for love, I spread the corner of my garment^(A) over you and covered your naked body. I gave you my solemn oath and entered into a covenant^(B) with you, declares the Sovereign Lord, and you became mine.^(C)

³¹ You must not worship the Lord your God in their way, because in worshiping their gods, they do all kinds of detestable things the Lord hates.^(A) They even burn their sons^(B) and daughters in the fire as sacrifices to their gods.^(C)
