⁴ Therefore speak to them and tell them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: When any of the Israelites set up idols in their hearts and put a wicked stumbling block before their faces and then go to a prophet, I the Lord will answer them myself in keeping with their great idolatry.

⁷ “‘When any of the Israelites or any foreigner^(A) residing in Israel separate themselves from me and set up idols in their hearts and put a wicked stumbling block^(B) before their faces and then go to a prophet to inquire^(C) of me, I the Lord will answer them myself.

¹⁷ “Son of man, I have made you a watchman^(A) for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me.^{(B) 18} When I say to a wicked person, ‘You will surely die,^(C)’ and you do not warn them or speak out to dissuade them from their evil ways in order to save their life, that wicked person will die for^[a] their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood.^{(D) 19} But if you do warn the wicked person and they do not turn^(E) from their wickedness^(F) or from their evil ways, they will die^(G) for their sin; but you will have saved yourself.^(H)

²⁰ “Again, when a righteous person turns^(I) from their righteousness and does evil, and I put a stumbling block^(J) before them, they will die. Since you did not warn them, they will die for their sin. The righteous things that person did will not be remembered, and I will hold you accountable for their blood.^{(K) 21} But if you do warn the righteous person not to sin and they do not sin, they will surely live because they took warning, and you will have saved yourself.^(L)”

⁴ He then said to me: “Son of man, go now to the people of Israel and speak my words to them.^(A)

⁷ You must speak^(A) my words to them, whether they listen or fail to listen, for they are rebellious.^(B)

¹⁶ He told the king, “This is what the Lord says: Is it because there is no God in Israel for you to consult that you have sent messengers^(A) to consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron? Because you have done this, you will never leave^(B) the bed you are lying on. You will certainly die!”

²⁰ Ahab said to Elijah, “So you have found me, my enemy!”^(A)

“I have found you,” he answered, “because you have sold^(B) yourself to do evil in the eyes of the Lord. ²¹ He says, ‘I am going to bring disaster on you. I will wipe out your descendants and cut off from Ahab every last male^(C) in Israel—slave or free.^{[a](D) 22} I will make your house^(E) like that of Jeroboam son of Nebat and that of Baasha son of Ahijah, because you have aroused my anger and have caused Israel to sin.’^(F)

²³ “And also concerning Jezebel the Lord says: ‘Dogs^(G) will devour Jezebel by the wall of^[b] Jezreel.’

²⁴ “Dogs^(H) will eat those belonging to Ahab who die in the city, and the birds^(I) will feed on those who die in the country.”

²⁵ (There was never^(J) anyone like Ahab, who sold himself to do evil in the eyes of the Lord, urged on by Jezebel his wife.
