³ “Son of man, these men have set up idols in their hearts^(A) and put wicked stumbling blocks^(B) before their faces. Should I let them inquire of me at all?^(C)

⁷ “‘When any of the Israelites or any foreigner^(A) residing in Israel separate themselves from me and set up idols in their hearts and put a wicked stumbling block^(B) before their faces and then go to a prophet to inquire^(C) of me, I the Lord will answer them myself.

¹⁶ because they rejected my laws^(A) and did not follow my decrees and desecrated my Sabbaths. For their hearts^(B) were devoted to their idols.^(C)

³ “Son of man, speak to the elders^(A) of Israel and say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Have you come to inquire^(B) of me? As surely as I live, I will not let you inquire of me, declares the Sovereign Lord.^(C)’

⁴ Therefore speak to them and tell them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: When any of the Israelites set up idols in their hearts and put a wicked stumbling block before their faces and then go to a prophet, I the Lord will answer them myself in keeping with their great idolatry.

¹² But because they served them in the presence of their idols and made the people of Israel fall^(A) into sin, therefore I have sworn with uplifted hand^(B) that they must bear the consequences of their sin, declares the Sovereign Lord.^(C)

³¹ When you offer your gifts—the sacrifice of your children^(A) in the fire—you continue to defile yourselves with all your idols to this day. Am I to let you inquire of me, you Israelites? As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I will not let you inquire of me.^(B)
