14 Some of the elders of Israel came to me and sat down in front of me.^(A)

Idolatry in the Temple

8 In the sixth year, in the sixth month on the fifth day, while I was sitting in my house and the elders^(A) of Judah were sitting before^(B) me, the hand of the Sovereign Lord came on me there.^(C)

Rebellious Israel Purged

20 In the seventh year, in the fifth month on the tenth day, some of the elders of Israel came to inquire^(A) of the Lord, and they sat down in front of me.^(B)

³¹ My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before^(A) you to hear your words, but they do not put them into practice. Their mouths speak of love, but their hearts are greedy^(B) for unjust gain.^(C)

¹³ The Lord says:

³² Now Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders^(A) were sitting with him. The king sent a messenger ahead, but before he arrived, Elisha said to the elders, “Don’t you see how this murderer^(B) is sending someone to cut off my head?^(C) Look, when the messenger comes, shut the door and hold it shut against him. Is not the sound of his master’s footsteps behind him?”

³ “I am a Jew,^(A) born in Tarsus^(B) of Cilicia,^(C) but brought up in this city. I studied under^(D) Gamaliel^(E) and was thoroughly trained in the law of our ancestors.^(F) I was just as zealous^(G) for God as any of you are today.

⁸ Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit,^(A) said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people!^(B)

⁵ The next day the rulers,^(A) the elders and the teachers of the law met in Jerusalem.
