¹⁰ Say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “This ^(A)burden^[a] concerns the prince in Jerusalem and all the house of Israel who are among them.” ’

Proclamation Against Babylon

13 The ^(A)burden^[a] against Babylon which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw.

²⁵ Then Jehu said to Bidkar his captain, “Pick him up, and throw him into the tract of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite; for remember, when you and I were riding together behind Ahab his father, that ^(A)the Lord laid this ^(B)burden upon him:

²⁵ ‘Now to you, O ^(A)profane, wicked prince of Israel, ^(B)whose day has come, whose iniquity shall end, ²⁶ thus says the Lord God:

^13 (A)And he took the king’s offspring, made a covenant with him, ^(B)and put him under oath. He also took away the mighty of the land, ¹⁴ that the kingdom might be ^(C)brought low and not lift itself up, but that by keeping his covenant it might stand. ¹⁵ But ^(D)he rebelled against him by sending his ambassadors to Egypt, ^(E)that they might give him horses and many people. ^(F)Will he prosper? Will he who does such things escape? Can he break a covenant and still be delivered?

¹⁶ ‘As I live,’ says the Lord God, ‘surely ^(G)in the place where the king dwells who made him king, whose oath he despised and whose covenant he broke—with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die. ^17 (H)Nor will Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company do anything in the war, ^(I)when they heap up a siege mound and build a ^[a]wall to cut off many persons. ¹⁸ Since he despised the oath by breaking the covenant, and in fact ^(J)gave^[b] his hand and still did all these things, he shall not escape.’ ”

¹⁹ Therefore thus says the Lord God: “As I live, surely My oath which he despised, and My covenant which he broke, I will recompense on his own head. ²⁰ I will ^(K)spread My net over him, and he shall be taken in My snare. I will bring him to Babylon and ^(L)try him there for the ^[c]treason which he committed against Me. ^21 (M)All his ^[d]fugitives with all his troops shall fall by the sword, and those who remain shall be ^(N)scattered to every wind; and you shall know that I, the Lord, have spoken.”

¹⁸ But if you do not ^[a]surrender to the king of Babylon’s princes, then this city shall be given into the hand of the Chaldeans; they shall burn it with fire, and ^(A)you shall not escape from their hand.’ ”

⁸ ‘And as the bad ^(A)figs which cannot be eaten, they are so bad’—surely thus says the Lord—‘so will I give up Zedekiah the king of Judah, his princes, the ^(B)residue of Jerusalem who remain in this land, and ^(C)those who dwell in the land of Egypt.
