^20 (A)This is the living creature I saw under the God of Israel ^(B)by the River Chebar, and I knew they were cherubim.

Ezekiel’s Vision of God

1 Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, on the fifth day of the month, as I was among the captives by ^(A)the River Chebar, that ^(B)the heavens were opened and I saw ^(C)visions^[a] of God.

¹⁵ And the cherubim were lifted up. This was ^(A)the living creature I saw by the River Chebar.

²³ So I arose and went out into the plain, and behold, ^(A)the glory of the Lord stood there, like the glory which I ^(B)saw by the River Chebar; ^(C)and I fell on my face.

^22 (A)The likeness of the ^[a]firmament above the heads of the ^[b]living creatures was like the color of an awesome ^(B)crystal, stretched out ^(C)over their heads. ²³ And under the firmament their wings spread out straight, one toward another. Each one had two which covered one side, and each one had two which covered the other side of the body. ^24 (D)When they went, I heard the noise of their wings, ^(E)like the noise of many waters, like ^(F)the voice of the Almighty, a tumult like the noise of an army; and when they stood still, they let down their wings. ²⁵ A voice came from above the firmament that was over their heads; whenever they stood, they let down their wings.

^26 (G)And above the firmament over their heads was the likeness of a throne, ^(H)in appearance like a sapphire stone; on the likeness of the throne was a likeness with the appearance of a man high above ^(I)it. ²⁷ Also from the appearance of His waist and upward ^(J)I saw, as it were, the color of amber with the appearance of fire all around within it; and from the appearance of His waist and downward I saw, as it were, the appearance of fire with brightness all around. ^28 (K)Like the appearance of a rainbow in a cloud on a rainy day, so was the appearance of the brightness all around it. ^(L)This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord.

Ezekiel Sent to Rebellious Israel

So when I saw it, ^(M)I fell on my face, and I heard a voice of One speaking.

^5 (A)Also from within it came the likeness of four living creatures. And ^(B)this was their appearance: they had ^(C)the likeness of a man.

³⁶ On the plates of its flanges and on its panels he engraved cherubim, lions, and palm trees, wherever there was a clear space on each, with wreaths all around.

²⁹ Then he carved all the walls of the temple all around, both the inner and outer sanctuaries, with carved ^(A)figures of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers. ³⁰ And the floor of the temple he overlaid with gold, both the inner and outer sanctuaries.

³¹ For the entrance of the inner sanctuary he made doors of olive wood; the lintel and doorposts were ^[a]one-fifth of the wall. ³² The two doors were of olive wood; and he carved on them figures of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold; and he spread gold on the cherubim and on the palm trees. ³³ So for the door of the ^[b]sanctuary he also made doorposts of olive wood, ^[c]one-fourth of the wall. ³⁴ And the two doors were of cypress wood; ^(B)two panels comprised one folding door, and two panels comprised the other folding door. ³⁵ Then he carved cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers on them, and overlaid them with gold applied evenly on the carved work.
