¹³ And they will know that I am the Lord, when their people lie slain among their idols^(A) around their altars, on every high hill and on all the mountaintops, under every spreading tree and every leafy oak^(B)—places where they offered fragrant incense to all their idols.^(C)

²⁸ When I brought them into the land^(A) I had sworn to give them and they saw any high hill or any leafy tree, there they offered their sacrifices, made offerings that aroused my anger, presented their fragrant incense and poured out their drink offerings.^(B)

²³ They also set up for themselves high places, sacred stones^(A) and Asherah poles^(B) on every high hill and under every spreading tree.^(C)

⁴ Your altars will be demolished and your incense altars^(A) will be smashed; and I will slay your people in front of your idols.^{(B) 5} I will lay the dead bodies of the Israelites in front of their idols, and I will scatter your bones^(C) around your altars.^{(D) 6} Wherever you live,^(E) the towns will be laid waste and the high places^(F) demolished, so that your altars will be laid waste and devastated, your idols^(G) smashed and ruined, your incense altars^(H) broken down, and what you have made wiped out.^{(I) 7} Your people will fall slain^(J) among you, and you will know that I am the Lord.^(K)

⁴ He offered sacrifices and burned incense^(A) at the high places, on the hilltops and under every spreading tree.^(B)
