32 You shall be careful therefore to do as the Lord your God has commanded you. (A)You shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. 33 (B)You shall walk in all the way that the Lord your God has commanded you, that you may live, and (C)that it may go well with you, and that you may live long in the land that you shall possess.

The Greatest Commandment

“Now this is (D)the commandment—the statutes and the rules[a]—that the Lord your God commanded me to teach you, that you may do them in the land to which you are going over, to possess it, that (E)you may fear the Lord your God, you and your son and your son's son, by keeping all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you, all the days of your life, and (F)that your days may be long. Hear therefore, O Israel, and be careful to do them, that it may go well with you, and that you may multiply greatly, (G)as the Lord, the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey.

“Hear, O Israel: (H)The Lord our God, the Lord is one.[b] You (I)shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And (J)these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. (K)You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. (L)You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.

Love the Lord Your God

These are the commands, decrees and laws the Lord your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, so that you, your children and their children after them may fear(E) the Lord your God as long as you live(F) by keeping all his decrees and commands(G) that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life.(H) Hear, Israel, and be careful to obey(I) so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly(J) in a land flowing with milk and honey,(K) just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised(L) you.

New Tablets of Stone

10 “At that time the Lord said to me, (A)‘Cut for yourself two tablets of stone like the first, and come up to me on the mountain and (B)make an ark of wood. And I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets that you broke, and (C)you shall put them in the ark.’ So I made an ark (D)of acacia wood, and (E)cut two tablets of stone like the first, and went up the mountain with the two tablets in my hand. And (F)he wrote on the tablets, in the same writing as before, the Ten Commandments[a] (G)that the Lord had spoken to you on the mountain out of the midst of the fire (H)on the day of the assembly. And the Lord gave them to me. Then I turned and (I)came down from the mountain and (J)put the tablets in the ark that I had made. (K)And there they are, as the Lord commanded me.”

(The people of Israel (L)journeyed from Beeroth Bene-jaakan[b] to Moserah. (M)There Aaron died, and there he was buried. And his son Eleazar ministered as priest in his place. (N)From there they journeyed to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land with brooks of water. At that time (O)the Lord set apart the tribe of Levi (P)to carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord (Q)to stand before the Lord to minister to him and (R)to bless in his name, to this day. (S)Therefore Levi has no portion or inheritance with his brothers. The Lord is his inheritance, as the Lord your God said to him.)

10 (T)“I myself stayed on the mountain, as at the first time, forty days and forty nights, (U)and the Lord listened to me that time also. The Lord was unwilling to destroy you. 11 (V)And the Lord said to me, ‘Arise, go on your journey at the head of the people, so that they may go in and possess the land, which I swore to their fathers to give them.’

Tablets Like the First Ones

10 At that time the Lord said to me, “Chisel out two stone tablets(A) like the first ones and come up to me on the mountain. Also make a wooden ark.[a] I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke. Then you are to put them in the ark.”(B)

So I made the ark out of acacia wood(C) and chiseled(D) out two stone tablets like the first ones, and I went up on the mountain with the two tablets in my hands. The Lord wrote on these tablets what he had written before, the Ten Commandments(E) he had proclaimed(F) to you on the mountain, out of the fire, on the day of the assembly.(G) And the Lord gave them to me. Then I came back down the mountain(H) and put the tablets in the ark(I) I had made,(J) as the Lord commanded me, and they are there now.(K)

(The Israelites traveled from the wells of Bene Jaakan to Moserah.(L) There Aaron died(M) and was buried, and Eleazar(N) his son succeeded him as priest.(O) From there they traveled to Gudgodah and on to Jotbathah, a land with streams of water.(P) At that time the Lord set apart the tribe of Levi(Q) to carry the ark of the covenant(R) of the Lord, to stand before the Lord to minister(S) and to pronounce blessings(T) in his name, as they still do today.(U) That is why the Levites have no share or inheritance among their fellow Israelites; the Lord is their inheritance,(V) as the Lord your God told them.)

10 Now I had stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights, as I did the first time, and the Lord listened to me at this time also. It was not his will to destroy you.(W) 11 “Go,” the Lord said to me, “and lead the people on their way, so that they may enter and possess the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.”
