40 (A)L'anno venticinquesimo della nostra deportazione, al principio dell'anno, il decimo giorno del mese, quattordici anni dopo la presa della città, in quello stesso giorno, la mano del Signore fu sopra di me, ed egli mi trasportò nel paese d'*Israele. 2 In una visione divina mi trasportò là e mi posò sopra un monte altissimo sul quale stava, dal lato di mezzogiorno, come la costruzione d'una città. 3 Egli mi condusse là, ed ecco che c'era un uomo il cui aspetto era come l'aspetto del rame; aveva in mano una corda di lino e una *canna per misurare; egli stava in piedi sulla porta. 4 Quell'uomo mi disse: «*Figlio d'uomo, apri gli occhi e guarda, porgi l'orecchio e ascolta, sta' attento a tutte le cose che io ti mostrerò; poiché tu sei stato condotto qua perché io te le mostri. Riferisci alla casa d'Israele tutto quello che vedrai».

5 Ed ecco, un muro esterno circondava la casa tutt'intorno. L'uomo aveva in mano una canna per misurare, lunga sei *cubiti, di un cubito e un *palmo ciascuno. Egli misurò la larghezza del muro; era una canna; l'altezza era una canna.

6 Poi venne alla porta che guardava verso oriente, ne salí la gradinata, e misurò la soglia della porta, che era della larghezza di una canna: questa prima soglia aveva la larghezza di una canna. 7 Ogni camera misurava una canna di lunghezza e una canna di larghezza. Tra le camere c'era uno spazio di cinque cubiti. La soglia della porta verso il vestibolo della porta, dal lato della casa, era di una canna. 8 Misurò il vestibolo della porta dal lato della casa; era una canna. 9 Misurò il vestibolo della porta; era otto cubiti; i suoi pilastri erano due cubiti. Il vestibolo della porta era dal lato della casa. 10 Le camere della porta orientale erano tre da un lato e tre dall'altro; tutte e tre avevano la stessa misura; i pilastri, da ogni lato, avevano pure la stessa misura. 11 Misurò la larghezza dell'apertura della porta; era dieci cubiti; la lunghezza della porta era tredici cubiti. 12 Davanti alle camere c'era una chiusura d'un cubito da un lato e una chiusura d'un cubito dall'altro; ogni camera aveva sei cubiti da un lato e sei dall'altro. 13 Misurò la porta dal *tetto d'una delle camere al tetto dell'altra; c'era una larghezza di venticinque cubiti, da porta a porta. 14 Contò sessanta cubiti per i pilastri, e dopo i pilastri veniva il cortile tutto intorno alle porte. 15 Lo spazio fra la porta d'ingresso e il vestibolo della porta interna era di cinquanta cubiti. 16 C'erano delle finestre, con delle grate, alle camere e ai loro pilastri, verso l'interno della porta, tutt'intorno; lo stesso agli archi; cosí c'erano delle finestre tutt'intorno, verso l'interno; sopra i pilastri c'erano delle palme.

17 Poi mi condusse nel *cortile esterno, ed ecco c'erano delle camere e un lastrico tutt'intorno al cortile: trenta camere davano su quel lastrico. 18 Il lastrico era di fianco alle porte e corrispondeva alla lunghezza delle porte; era il lastrico inferiore. 19 Poi misurò la larghezza, dal davanti della porta inferiore sino alla cinta del cortile interno: cento cubiti a oriente e a settentrione.

20 Misurò la lunghezza e la larghezza della porta settentrionale del cortile esterno; 21 le sue camere erano tre di qua e tre di là; i suoi pilastri e i suoi archi avevano la stessa misura della prima porta: cinquanta cubiti di lunghezza e venticinque di larghezza. 22 Le sue finestre, i suoi archi, le sue palme avevano la stessa misura della porta orientale; vi si saliva per sette gradini, davanti ai quali stavano i suoi archi. 23 Una porta dava sul cortile interno, di fronte alla porta settentrionale; era come quella orientale; ed egli misurò da porta a porta: cento cubiti.

24 Poi mi condusse verso mezzogiorno, ed ecco una porta che guardava a mezzogiorno; egli ne misurò i pilastri e gli archi, che avevano le stesse dimensioni. 25 Questa porta e i suoi archi avevano delle finestre tutto intorno, come le altre finestre: cinquanta cubiti di lunghezza e venticinque cubiti di larghezza. 26 Vi si saliva per sette gradini, davanti ai quali stavano gli archi; essa aveva le sue palme, una di qua, una di là, sopra i suoi pilastri. 27 Il cortile interno aveva una porta dal lato di mezzogiorno; ed egli misurò da porta a porta, in direzione di mezzogiorno, cento cubiti.

28 Poi mi condusse nel cortile interno per la porta di mezzogiorno, e misurò la porta di mezzogiorno, che aveva quelle stesse dimensioni. 29 Le sue camere, i suoi pilastri e i suoi archi avevano le stesse dimensioni. Questa porta e i suoi archi avevano delle finestre tutto intorno; aveva cinquanta cubiti di lunghezza e venticinque di larghezza. 30 C'erano tutto intorno archi di venticinque cubiti di lunghezza e di cinque cubiti di larghezza. 31 Gli archi della porta erano dal lato del cortile esterno, c'erano delle palme sui suoi pilastri e vi si saliva per otto gradini.

32 Poi mi condusse nel cortile interno per la porta orientale e misurò la porta; essa aveva le stesse dimensioni. 33 Le sue camere, i suoi pilastri e i suoi archi avevano quelle stesse dimensioni. Questa porta e i suoi archi avevano tutto intorno delle finestre; misurava cinquanta cubiti di lunghezza e venticinque cubiti di larghezza. 34 Gli archi della porta erano dal lato del cortile esterno, c'erano delle palme sui suoi pilastri di qua e di là e vi si saliva per otto gradini.

35 Poi mi condusse alla porta settentrionale; la misurò e aveva le solite dimensioni; 36 cosí per le sue camere, per i suoi pilastri e per i suoi archi; c'erano delle finestre tutto intorno; misurava cinquanta cubiti di lunghezza e venticinque cubiti di larghezza. 37 I pilastri della porta erano dal lato del cortile esterno, c'erano delle palme sui suoi pilastri di qua e di là, e vi si saliva per otto gradini.

38 C'era una camera con l'ingresso vicino ai pilastri delle porte; là si lavavano gli olocausti. 39 Nel vestibolo della porta c'erano due tavole di qua e due tavole di là per scannarvi su gli olocausti, i sacrifici espiatori e per la colpa. 40 A uno dei lati esterni, a settentrione di chi saliva all'ingresso della porta, c'erano due tavole; dall'altro lato, verso il vestibolo della porta, c'erano due tavole. 41 Cosí c'erano quattro tavole di qua e quattro tavole di là, ai lati della porta: in tutto otto tavole, per scannar su di esse i sacrifici. 42 C'erano ancora, per gli olocausti, quattro tavole di pietra tagliata, lunghe un cubito e mezzo e larghe un cubito e mezzo e alte un cubito, per porvi su gli strumenti con i quali si scannavano gli olocausti e gli altri sacrifici. 43 Degli uncini di un palmo erano fissati nella casa tutto intorno; sulle tavole doveva essere messa la carne delle offerte.

44 Fuori della porta interna c'erano due camere, nel cortile interno: una era accanto alla porta settentrionale e guardava a mezzogiorno; l'altra era accanto alla porta meridionale e guardava a settentrione[a]. 45 Egli mi disse: «Questa camera che guarda verso mezzogiorno è per i *sacerdoti che sono incaricati del servizio della casa; 46 la camera che guarda verso settentrione è per i sacerdoti incaricati del servizio dell'altare; i figli di *Sadoc, sono quelli che, tra i figli di *Levi, s'accostano al Signore per fare il suo servizio».

47 Egli misurò il cortile; era quadrato e misurava cento cubiti di lunghezza e cento cubiti di larghezza; l'altare stava davanti alla casa.

48 Poi mi condusse nel vestibolo della casa e misurò i pilastri del vestibolo: cinque cubiti di qua e cinque di là; la larghezza della porta era di tre cubiti di qua e tre di là. 49 La lunghezza del vestibolo era di venti cubiti; la larghezza era di undici cubiti; vi si saliva per dei gradini; presso i pilastri c'erano delle colonne, una di qua e una di là.

40 En el año veinticinco de nuestra cautividad, al comienzo del año, en el día diez del mes primero[a], catorce años después que había caído Jerusalén, en ese mismo día vino sobre mí la mano del SEÑOR y me llevó allá. 2 En visiones de Dios me llevó a la tierra de Israel y me puso sobre un monte muy alto en el cual, al lado sur, había algo como una estructura de ciudad. 3 Me llevó allá, y he allí un hombre cuyo aspecto era como el aspecto del bronce. Tenía en su mano un cordel de lino y una caña de medir, y estaba de pie junto a la puerta.

4 Aquel hombre me dijo: “Oh hijo de hombre, mira con tus ojos, oye con tus oídos y presta atención a todas las cosas que te mostraré, porque para que yo te las muestre has sido traído aquí. Declara todo lo que ves a la casa de Israel”.

5 He aquí que por fuera y alrededor del templo había un muro. En la mano del hombre había una caña para medir, la cual tenía tres metros[b]. Entonces midió el espesor de la estructura, la cual tenía tres metros, y su altura, la cual era también de tres metros.

6 Después fue a la puerta que daba al oriente, subió por sus gradas y midió el umbral de la puerta, el cual tenía tres metros de ancho. El otro umbral también tenía tres metros de ancho. 7 Cada celda tenía tres metros de largo por tres metros de ancho. Entre las celdas había una separación de dos metros y medio, y el umbral de la puerta que daba al vestíbulo, por el lado interior de la puerta, medía tres metros.

8 Asimismo, midió el vestíbulo de la puerta, 9 el cual[c] tenía cuatro metros, y sus pilastras tenían un metro cada una. El vestíbulo de la puerta estaba hacia adentro.

10 Las celdas de la puerta que daba al oriente eran tres en un lado, y tres en el otro lado, todas de la misma medida. También tenían la misma medida las pilastras de cada lado. 11 Midió el ancho de la entrada de la puerta, el cual era de cinco metros. El largo del umbral era de seis metros y medio. 12 El espacio delante de las celdas era de cincuenta centímetros a un lado y de cincuenta centímetros al otro lado. Cada celda tenía tres metros por un lado y tres metros por el otro lado. 13 Midió en la puerta desde el fondo[d] de una celda hasta el fondo[e] de la celda opuesta: trece metros. Una entrada estaba frente a la otra.

14 También midió las pilastras, las cuales tenían treinta y un metros. El atrio junto a la puerta también tenía pilastras alrededor. 15 Desde la fachada exterior de la puerta hasta el frente del vestíbulo interior de la puerta había veintiséis metros. 16 Había ventanas anchas por dentro y angostas por fuera, que daban hacia las celdas en el interior y alrededor de la puerta. Asimismo, su vestíbulo tenía ventanas alrededor y hacia el interior. Y en cada pilastra había decoraciones de palmeras.

17 Luego me llevó al atrio exterior, y he aquí que había cámaras; y el atrio alrededor tenía un enlosado. Alrededor de aquel atrio, y dando hacia el enlosado, había treinta cámaras. 18 El enlosado inferior de junto a las puertas correspondía a la longitud de las puertas. 19 Midió el ancho desde el frente de la puerta inferior hasta el frente exterior del atrio interior, y tenía cincuenta y dos metros. Así como en el norte era en el oriente.

20 Luego midió el largo y el ancho de la puerta que daba al norte del atrio exterior. 21 Tenía tres celdas en un lado y tres en el otro lado. Sus pilastras y su vestíbulo tenían las mismas medidas que la primera puerta: veintiséis metros de largo por trece metros de ancho. 22 Sus ventanas, sus vestíbulos y sus decoraciones de palmeras eran de las mismas dimensiones que las de la puerta que daba al oriente. Se subía a ella por siete gradas, delante de las cuales estaba el vestíbulo. 23 En frente de la puerta del norte, así como de la del este, había una puerta que daba al atrio interior. Él midió de puerta a puerta, y había cincuenta y dos metros.

24 Luego me condujo hacia el sur, y he aquí que había otra puerta que daba al sur. Midió sus pilastras y sus vestíbulos; eran como aquellas medidas. 25 La puerta y los vestíbulos tenían ventanas alrededor, así como aquellas ventanas. Tenía veintiséis metros de largo por trece metros de ancho. 26 Se subía a ella por siete gradas, delante de las cuales estaba el vestíbulo. Tenía decoraciones de palmeras sobre sus pilastras, tanto en un lado como en el otro lado. 27 También había en el atrio interior una puerta que daba al sur. Midió de puerta a puerta, hacia el sur, y había cincuenta y dos metros.

28 Luego me llevó por la puerta del sur al atrio interior y midió la puerta del sur; eran como aquellas medidas. 29 Sus celdas, sus pilastras y sus vestíbulos tenían aquellas mismas medidas. La puerta y los vestíbulos tenían ventanas alrededor. Tenía veintiséis metros de largo por trece metros de ancho. 30 Alrededor había vestíbulos de trece metros de largo y dos metros y medio de ancho. 31 Sus vestíbulos daban al atrio exterior y tenían decoraciones de palmeras sobre sus pilastras. Y ocho gradas daban acceso a ellos.

32 Luego me llevó al lado oriental, al atrio interior, y midió la puerta; era como aquellas medidas. 33 Sus celdas, sus pilastras y sus vestíbulos tenían aquellas mismas medidas. La puerta y los vestíbulos tenían ventanas alrededor. Tenía veintiséis metros de largo y trece metros de ancho. 34 Sus vestíbulos daban al atrio exterior, y en ambos lados tenían decoraciones de palmeras sobre sus pilastras. 38 Había una cámara cuya entrada daba al vestíbulo de la puerta[f]. Allí lavaban el holocausto. 39 En el vestíbulo de la puerta había dos mesas en un lado y otras dos en el otro lado, para degollar sobre ellas el holocausto, la víctima por el pecado y la víctima por la culpa. 40 En el lado de fuera, conforme uno sube a la entrada de la puerta del norte, había dos mesas; y al otro lado, que daba a la entrada de la puerta, había otras dos mesas. 41 Había cuatro mesas en un lado y cuatro en el otro, es decir, al lado de la puerta había ocho mesas sobre las cuales degollaban las víctimas. 42 Las cuatro mesas para el holocausto eran de piedra labrada, de setenta y cinco centímetros de largo y setenta y cinco centímetros de ancho y cincuenta centímetros de alto. Sobre ellas colocaban los instrumentos con que degollaban las víctimas del holocausto y del sacrificio. 43 Los rebordes, de siete centímetros, estaban fijos alrededor de la cámara, y la carne de las ofrendas estaba sobre las mesas.

44 Por fuera de la puerta interior, en el atrio interior, había dos cámaras para los cantores. Una de ellas estaba al lado de la puerta del norte y su fachada daba al sur. La otra estaba al lado de la puerta del sur[g] y su fachada daba al norte. 45 Y me dijo: “Esta cámara que da al sur es de los sacerdotes que están a cargo del templo. 46 Y la cámara que da al norte es de los sacerdotes que están a cargo del altar. Estos últimos son los hijos de Sadoc, quienes han sido acercados al SEÑOR de entre los hijos de Leví, para servirle”.

47 Luego midió el atrio, que era un cuadrado de cincuenta y dos metros de largo y cincuenta y dos metros de ancho. Delante del santuario estaba el altar.

48 Luego me llevó al vestíbulo del templo y midió cada pilastra del vestíbulo, dos metros y medio de un lado y dos metros y medio del otro lado. El ancho de la puerta era de un metro y medio de un lado y de un metro y medio del otro lado. 49 El largo del vestíbulo era de diez metros, y el ancho de cinco metros y medio. Junto a las gradas por las cuales se subía al vestíbulo, había columnas junto a las pilastras, una de un lado y otra del otro lado.

The Temple Area Restored

40 In the twenty-fifth year of our exile, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth of the month, in the fourteenth year after the fall of the city(A)—on that very day the hand of the Lord was on me(B) and he took me there. 2 In visions(C) of God he took me to the land of Israel and set me on a very high mountain,(D) on whose south side were some buildings that looked like a city. 3 He took me there, and I saw a man whose appearance was like bronze;(E) he was standing in the gateway with a linen cord and a measuring rod(F) in his hand. 4 The man said to me, “Son of man, look carefully and listen closely and pay attention to everything I am going to show you,(G) for that is why you have been brought here. Tell(H) the people of Israel everything you see.(I)”

The East Gate to the Outer Court

5 I saw a wall completely surrounding the temple area. The length of the measuring rod in the man’s hand was six long cubits,[a] each of which was a cubit and a handbreadth. He measured(J) the wall; it was one measuring rod thick and one rod high.

6 Then he went to the east gate.(K) He climbed its steps and measured the threshold of the gate; it was one rod deep. 7 The alcoves(L) for the guards were one rod long and one rod wide, and the projecting walls between the alcoves were five cubits[b] thick. And the threshold of the gate next to the portico facing the temple was one rod deep.

8 Then he measured the portico of the gateway; 9 it[c] was eight cubits[d] deep and its jambs were two cubits[e] thick. The portico of the gateway faced the temple.

10 Inside the east gate were three alcoves on each side; the three had the same measurements, and the faces of the projecting walls on each side had the same measurements. 11 Then he measured the width of the entrance of the gateway; it was ten cubits and its length was thirteen cubits.[f] 12 In front of each alcove was a wall one cubit high, and the alcoves were six cubits square. 13 Then he measured the gateway from the top of the rear wall of one alcove to the top of the opposite one; the distance was twenty-five cubits[g] from one parapet opening to the opposite one. 14 He measured along the faces of the projecting walls all around the inside of the gateway—sixty cubits.[h] The measurement was up to the portico[i] facing the courtyard.[j](M) 15 The distance from the entrance of the gateway to the far end of its portico was fifty cubits.[k] 16 The alcoves and the projecting walls inside the gateway were surmounted by narrow parapet openings all around, as was the portico; the openings all around faced inward. The faces of the projecting walls were decorated with palm trees.(N)

The Outer Court

17 Then he brought me into the outer court.(O) There I saw some rooms and a pavement that had been constructed all around the court; there were thirty rooms(P) along the pavement.(Q) 18 It abutted the sides of the gateways and was as wide as they were long; this was the lower pavement. 19 Then he measured the distance from the inside of the lower gateway to the outside of the inner court;(R) it was a hundred cubits[l](S) on the east side as well as on the north.

The North Gate

20 Then he measured the length and width of the north gate, leading into the outer court. 21 Its alcoves(T)—three on each side—its projecting walls and its portico(U) had the same measurements as those of the first gateway. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide. 22 Its openings, its portico(V) and its palm tree decorations had the same measurements as those of the gate facing east. Seven steps led up to it, with its portico opposite them.(W) 23 There was a gate to the inner court facing the north gate, just as there was on the east. He measured from one gate to the opposite one; it was a hundred cubits.(X)

The South Gate

24 Then he led me to the south side and I saw the south gate. He measured its jambs and its portico, and they had the same measurements(Y) as the others. 25 The gateway and its portico had narrow openings all around, like the openings of the others. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.(Z) 26 Seven steps led up to it, with its portico opposite them; it had palm tree decorations on the faces of the projecting walls on each side.(AA) 27 The inner court(AB) also had a gate facing south, and he measured from this gate to the outer gate on the south side; it was a hundred cubits.(AC)

The Gates to the Inner Court

28 Then he brought me into the inner court through the south gate, and he measured the south gate; it had the same measurements(AD) as the others. 29 Its alcoves,(AE) its projecting walls and its portico had the same measurements as the others. The gateway and its portico had openings all around. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.(AF) 30 (The porticoes(AG) of the gateways around the inner court were twenty-five cubits wide and five cubits deep.) 31 Its portico(AH) faced the outer court; palm trees decorated its jambs, and eight steps led up to it.(AI)

32 Then he brought me to the inner court on the east side, and he measured the gateway; it had the same measurements(AJ) as the others. 33 Its alcoves,(AK) its projecting walls and its portico had the same measurements as the others. The gateway and its portico had openings all around. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide. 34 Its portico(AL) faced the outer court; palm trees decorated the jambs on either side, and eight steps led up to it.

35 Then he brought me to the north gate(AM) and measured it. It had the same measurements(AN) as the others, 36 as did its alcoves,(AO) its projecting walls and its portico, and it had openings all around. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide. 37 Its portico[m](AP) faced the outer court; palm trees decorated the jambs on either side, and eight steps led up to it.(AQ)

The Rooms for Preparing Sacrifices

38 A room with a doorway was by the portico in each of the inner gateways, where the burnt offerings(AR) were washed. 39 In the portico of the gateway were two tables on each side, on which the burnt offerings,(AS) sin offerings[n](AT) and guilt offerings(AU) were slaughtered.(AV) 40 By the outside wall of the portico of the gateway, near the steps at the entrance of the north gateway were two tables, and on the other side of the steps were two tables. 41 So there were four tables on one side of the gateway and four on the other—eight tables in all—on which the sacrifices were slaughtered. 42 There were also four tables of dressed stone(AW) for the burnt offerings, each a cubit and a half long, a cubit and a half wide and a cubit high.[o] On them were placed the utensils for slaughtering the burnt offerings and the other sacrifices.(AX) 43 And double-pronged hooks, each a handbreadth[p] long, were attached to the wall all around. The tables were for the flesh of the offerings.

The Rooms for the Priests

44 Outside the inner gate, within the inner court, were two rooms, one[q] at the side of the north gate and facing south, and another at the side of the south[r] gate and facing north. 45 He said to me, “The room facing south is for the priests who guard the temple,(AY) 46 and the room facing north(AZ) is for the priests who guard the altar.(BA) These are the sons of Zadok,(BB) who are the only Levites who may draw near to the Lord to minister before him.(BC)”

47 Then he measured the court: It was square—a hundred cubits long and a hundred cubits wide. And the altar was in front of the temple.(BD)

The New Temple

48 He brought me to the portico of the temple(BE) and measured the jambs of the portico; they were five cubits wide on either side. The width of the entrance was fourteen cubits[s] and its projecting walls were[t] three cubits[u] wide on either side. 49 The portico(BF) was twenty cubits[v] wide, and twelve[w] cubits[x] from front to back. It was reached by a flight of stairs,[y] and there were pillars(BG) on each side of the jambs.
