Vocazione di Ezechiele; la gloria del Signore(A)
1 (B)Il trentesimo anno, il quinto giorno del quarto mese, mentre mi trovavo presso il fiume Chebar[a], fra i deportati, i cieli si aprirono, e io ebbi delle visioni divine. 2 Il quinto giorno del mese (era il quinto anno della deportazione del re Ioiachin), 3 la parola del Signore fu rivolta al *sacerdote *Ezechiele, figlio di Buzi, nel paese dei *Caldei, presso il fiume Chebar; in quel luogo la mano del Signore fu sopra di lui.
4 Io guardai, ed ecco venire dal settentrione un vento tempestoso, una grossa nuvola con un fuoco folgorante e uno splendore intorno a essa; nel centro vi era come un bagliore di metallo in mezzo al fuoco. 5 Nel centro appariva la forma di quattro esseri viventi; e questo era l'aspetto loro: avevano aspetto umano. 6 Ognuno di essi aveva quattro facce e quattro ali. 7 I loro piedi erano diritti, e la pianta dei loro piedi era come la pianta del piede di un vitello; e brillavano come il bagliore del rame lucente. 8 Avevano mani d'uomo sotto le ali, ai loro quattro lati; tutti e quattro avevano le loro facce e le loro ali. 9 Le loro ali si univano l'una all'altra; camminando, non si voltavano; ognuno camminava diritto davanti a sé. 10 Quanto all'aspetto delle loro facce, essi avevano tutti una faccia d'uomo, tutti e quattro una faccia di leone a destra, tutti e quattro una faccia di bue a sinistra, e tutti e quattro una faccia d'aquila. 11 Le loro facce e le loro ali erano separate nella parte superiore; ognuno aveva due ali che s'univano a quelle dell'altro, e due che coprivano loro il corpo. 12 Camminavano ognuno diritto davanti a sé; andavano dove lo Spirito li faceva andare, e, camminando, non si voltavano. 13 L'aspetto di quegli esseri viventi era come di carboni incandescenti, come di fiaccole; quel fuoco circolava in mezzo agli esseri viventi, era un fuoco scintillante, e dal fuoco uscivano dei lampi. 14 Le creature viventi correvano in tutte le direzioni, simili al fulmine.
15 Mentre guardavo gli esseri viventi, ecco una ruota in terra, presso ciascuno di essi, verso le loro quattro facce. 16 L'aspetto delle ruote era come il bagliore del crisolito; tutte e quattro si somigliavano; il loro aspetto e la loro struttura erano come se una ruota fosse in mezzo a un'altra ruota. 17 Quando si movevano, andavano tutte e quattro dal proprio lato, e, andando, non si voltavano. 18 I loro cerchi erano alti e imponenti; i cerchi di tutte e quattro erano pieni d'occhi tutt'intorno. 19 Quando gli esseri viventi camminavano, le ruote si movevano accanto a loro; quando gli esseri viventi si alzavano su da terra, si alzavano anche le ruote. 20 Dovunque lo Spirito voleva andare, andavano anch'esse; le ruote si alzavano accanto a quelli, perché lo spirito degli esseri viventi era nelle ruote. 21 Quando quelli camminavano, anche le ruote si movevano; quando quelli si fermavano, anche queste si fermavano; e quando quelli si alzavano su dalla terra, anche queste si alzavano accanto a essi, perché lo spirito degli esseri viventi era nelle ruote.
22 Sopra le teste degli esseri viventi c'era come una volta d'un bagliore come di cristallo di ammirevole splendore, e si estendeva su in alto, sopra le loro teste. 23 Sotto la volta le loro ali erano diritte, l'una verso l'altra; ciascuno ne aveva due che coprivano il corpo. 24 Quando camminavano, io sentivo il rumore delle loro ali, come il rumore delle grandi acque, come la voce dell'Onnipotente: un rumore di gran tumulto, come il rumore di un accampamento; quando si fermavano,
abbassavano le loro ali; 25 si udiva un rumore che veniva dall'alto, dalla volta che era sopra le loro teste.
26 Al di sopra della volta che era sopra le loro teste, c'era come una pietra di zaffiro, che pareva un trono; e su questa specie di trono appariva come la figura di un uomo, che vi stava seduto sopra, su in alto. 27 Vidi pure come un bagliore di metallo, come del fuoco, che lo circondava tutto intorno dalla sembianza dei suoi fianchi in su; e dalla sembianza dei suoi fianchi in giú vidi come del fuoco, come uno splendore tutto attorno a lui. 28 Qual è l'aspetto dell'arco che è nella nuvola in un giorno di pioggia, tal era l'aspetto di quello splendore che lo circondava. Era un'apparizione dell'immagine della gloria del Signore. A quella vista caddi sulla mia faccia, e udii la voce di uno che parlava.

Introduzione
1 Il cinque del quarto mese dell'anno trentesimo, mentre mi trovavo fra i deportati sulle rive del canale Chebàr, i cieli si aprirono ed ebbi visioni divine. 2 Il cinque del mese - era l'anno quinto della deportazione del re Ioiachìn - 3 la parola del Signore fu rivolta al sacerdote Ezechiele figlio di Buzì, nel paese dei Caldei, lungo il canale Chebàr. Qui fu sopra di lui la mano del Signore.

4 Io guardavo ed ecco un uragano avanzare dal settentrione, una grande nube e un turbinìo di fuoco, che splendeva tutto intorno, e in mezzo si scorgeva come un balenare di elettro incandescente. 5 Al centro apparve la figura di quattro esseri animati, dei quali questo era l'aspetto: avevano sembianza umana 6 e avevano ciascuno quattro facce e quattro ali. 7 Le loro gambe erano diritte e gli zoccoli dei loro piedi erano come gli zoccoli dei piedi d'un vitello, splendenti come lucido bronzo. 8 Sotto le ali, ai quattro lati, avevano mani d'uomo; tutti e quattro avevano le medesime sembianze e le proprie ali, 9 e queste ali erano unite l'una all'altra. Mentre avanzavano, non si volgevano indietro, ma ciascuno andava diritto avanti a sé.
10 Quanto alle loro fattezze, ognuno dei quattro aveva fattezze d'uomo; poi fattezze di leone a destra, fattezze di toro a sinistra e, ognuno dei quattro, fattezze d'aquila. 11 Le loro ali erano spiegate verso l'alto; ciascuno aveva due ali che si toccavano e due che coprivano il corpo. 12 Ciascuno si muoveva davanti a sé; andavano là dove lo spirito li dirigeva e, muovendosi, non si voltavano indietro.
13 Tra quegli esseri si vedevano come carboni ardenti simili a torce che si muovevano in mezzo a loro. Il fuoco risplendeva e dal fuoco si sprigionavano bagliori. 14 Gli esseri andavano e venivano come un baleno. 15 Io guardavo quegli esseri ed ecco sul terreno una ruota al loro fianco, di tutti e quattro.
16 Le ruote avevano l'aspetto e la struttura come di topazio e tutt'e quattro la medesima forma, il loro aspetto e la loro struttura era come di ruota in mezzo a un'altra ruota. 17 Potevano muoversi in quattro direzioni, senza aver bisogno di voltare nel muoversi. 18 La loro circonferenza era assai grande e i cerchi di tutt'e quattro erano pieni di occhi tutt'intorno. 19 Quando quegli esseri viventi si muovevano, anche le ruote si muovevano accanto a loro e, quando gli esseri si alzavano da terra, anche le ruote si alzavano. 20 Dovunque lo spirito le avesse spinte, le ruote andavano e ugualmente si alzavano, perché lo spirito dell'essere vivente era nelle ruote. 21 Quando essi si muovevano, esse si muovevano; quando essi si fermavano, esse si fermavano e, quando essi si alzavano da terra, anche le ruote ugualmente si alzavano, perché lo spirito dell'essere vivente era nelle ruote.
22 Al di sopra delle teste degli esseri viventi vi era una specie di firmamento, simile ad un cristallo splendente, disteso sopra le loro teste, 23 e sotto il firmamento vi erano le loro ali distese, l'una di contro all'altra; ciascuno ne aveva due che gli coprivano il corpo. 24 Quando essi si muovevano, io udivo il rombo delle ali, simile al rumore di grandi acque, come il tuono dell'Onnipotente, come il fragore della tempesta, come il tumulto d'un accampamento. Quando poi si fermavano, ripiegavano le ali. 25 Ci fu un rumore al di sopra del firmamento che era sulle loro teste.
26 Sopra il firmamento che era sulle loro teste apparve come una pietra di zaffiro in forma di trono e su questa specie di trono, in alto, una figura dalle sembianze umane. 27 Da ciò che sembrava essere dai fianchi in su, mi apparve splendido come l'elettro e da ciò che sembrava dai fianchi in giù, mi apparve come di fuoco. Era circondato da uno splendore 28 il cui aspetto era simile a quello dell'arcobaleno nelle nubi in un giorno di pioggia. Tale mi apparve l'aspetto della gloria del Signore. Quando la vidi, caddi con la faccia a terra e udii la voce di uno che parlava.

1 Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I was among the captives by the river of Chebar, that the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God.
2 In the fifth day of the month, which was the fifth year of king Jehoiachin's captivity,
3 The word of the Lord came expressly unto Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar; and the hand of the Lord was there upon him.
4 And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire.
5 Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man.
6 And every one had four faces, and every one had four wings.
7 And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calf's foot: and they sparkled like the colour of burnished brass.
8 And they had the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides; and they four had their faces and their wings.
9 Their wings were joined one to another; they turned not when they went; they went every one straight forward.
10 As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle.
11 Thus were their faces: and their wings were stretched upward; two wings of every one were joined one to another, and two covered their bodies.
12 And they went every one straight forward: whither the spirit was to go, they went; and they turned not when they went.
13 As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, and like the appearance of lamps: it went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning.
14 And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning.
15 Now as I beheld the living creatures, behold one wheel upon the earth by the living creatures, with his four faces.
16 The appearance of the wheels and their work was like unto the colour of a beryl: and they four had one likeness: and their appearance and their work was as it were a wheel in the middle of a wheel.
17 When they went, they went upon their four sides: and they turned not when they went.
18 As for their rings, they were so high that they were dreadful; and their rings were full of eyes round about them four.
19 And when the living creatures went, the wheels went by them: and when the living creatures were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up.
20 Whithersoever the spirit was to go, they went, thither was their spirit to go; and the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels.
21 When those went, these went; and when those stood, these stood; and when those were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels.
22 And the likeness of the firmament upon the heads of the living creature was as the colour of the terrible crystal, stretched forth over their heads above.
23 And under the firmament were their wings straight, the one toward the other: every one had two, which covered on this side, and every one had two, which covered on that side, their bodies.
24 And when they went, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of great waters, as the voice of the Almighty, the voice of speech, as the noise of an host: when they stood, they let down their wings.
25 And there was a voice from the firmament that was over their heads, when they stood, and had let down their wings.
26 And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it.
27 And I saw as the colour of amber, as the appearance of fire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins even upward, and from the appearance of his loins even downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about.
28 As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.

4 Then I looked, and behold, (E)a whirlwind was coming (F)out of the north, a great cloud with raging fire engulfing itself; and brightness was all around it and radiating out of its midst like the color of amber, out of the midst of the fire. 5 (G)Also from within it came the likeness of four living creatures. And (H)this was their appearance: they had (I)the likeness of a man. 6 Each one had four faces, and each one had four wings. 7 Their [c]legs were straight, and the soles of their feet were like the soles of calves’ feet. They sparkled (J)like the color of burnished bronze. 8 (K)The hands of a man were under their wings on their four sides; and each of the four had faces and wings. 9 Their wings touched one another. The creatures did not turn when they went, but each one went straight (L)forward.

15 Now as I looked at the living creatures, behold, (V)a wheel was on the earth beside each living creature with its four faces. 16 (W)The appearance of the wheels and their workings was (X)like the color of beryl, and all four had the same likeness. The appearance of their workings was, as it were, a wheel in the middle of a wheel. 17 When they moved, they went toward any one of four directions; they did not turn aside when they went. 18 As for their rims, they were so high they were awesome; and their rims were (Y)full of eyes, all around the four of them. 19 (Z)When the living creatures went, the wheels went beside them; and when the living creatures were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up. 20 Wherever the spirit wanted to go, they went, because there the spirit went; and the wheels were lifted together with them, (AA)for the spirit of the [d]living creatures was in the wheels. 21 When those went, these went; when those stood, these stood; and when those were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up together with them, for the spirit of the [e]living creatures was in the wheels.
22 (AB)The likeness of the [f]firmament above the heads of the [g]living creatures was like the color of an awesome (AC)crystal, stretched out (AD)over their heads. 23 And under the firmament their wings spread out straight, one toward another. Each one had two which covered one side, and each one had two which covered the other side of the body. 24 (AE)When they went, I heard the noise of their wings, (AF)like the noise of many waters, like (AG)the voice of the Almighty, a tumult like the noise of an army; and when they stood still, they let down their wings. 25 A voice came from above the firmament that was over their heads; whenever they stood, they let down their wings.
26 (AH)And above the firmament over their heads was the likeness of a throne, (AI)in appearance like a sapphire stone; on the likeness of the throne was a likeness with the appearance of a man high above (AJ)it. 27 Also from the appearance of His waist and upward (AK)I saw, as it were, the color of amber with the appearance of fire all around within it; and from the appearance of His waist and downward I saw, as it were, the appearance of fire with brightness all around. 28 (AL)Like the appearance of a rainbow in a cloud on a rainy day, so was the appearance of the brightness all around it. (AM)This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord.

So when I saw it, (AN)I fell on my face, and I heard a voice of One speaking.
