17 De Heer zei tegen mij: 2 "Mensenzoon, geef het volk Israël een raadsel op. Vertel hun het volgende verhaal: 3 De Heer zegt: De grote adelaar vloog naar de berg Libanon. Hij had machtige vleugels, prachtig gekleurde veren en een sterke vleugelslag. Hij vloog naar de Libanon en rukte daar de top van een cederboom af. 4 Hij brak het hoogste topje af en bracht dat naar een land waar veel handel is. Daar plantte hij het in een drukke handelsstad.

17 Daarop kreeg ik de volgende boodschap van de Here: 2 ‘Mensenzoon, geef het volk Israël het volgende raadsel op: “Dit zegt de Oppermachtige Here: 3,4 een grote arend met brede, krachtige vleugels, vol kleurige, lange veren, vloog naar de Libanon. Hij rukte de top van een grote ceder af en bracht die naar een handelsstad, waar hij haar in de grond plantte.

17 And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, put forth a riddle, and speak a parable unto the house of Israel; 3 and say, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: A great eagle with great wings and long pinions, full of feathers, which had divers colors, came unto Lebanon, and took the top of the cedar: 4 he cropped off the topmost of the young twigs thereof, and carried it unto [a]a land of traffic; he set it in a city of merchants.

3 And say, Thus saith the Lord God; A great eagle with great wings, longwinged, full of feathers, which had divers colours, came unto Lebanon, and took the highest branch of the cedar:
4 He cropped off the top of his young twigs, and carried it into a land of traffick; he set it in a city of merchants.
