22 Dit zegt de Heer: Dan zal Ik Zelf uit de top van de hoge cederboom een jong takje afplukken. Dat zal Ik planten op een hoge berg. 23 Ik zal het op de hoogste berg van Israël planten. Er zullen takken en vruchten aan groeien. Het zal een prachtige cederboom worden. Er zullen allerlei soorten vogels in de schaduw tussen zijn takken wonen. 24 Alle bomen zullen beseffen dat Ik, de Heer, de hoge cederboom heb omgekapt, de kleine boom heb laten verdrogen en de kleine tak tot een machtige boom heb gemaakt.[a] Ik, de Heer, zal doen wat Ik heb gezegd."

- Ezechiël 17:24 Met het jonge takje dat God plukt en plant, kan Jezus bedoeld zijn. Zijn koninkrijk zal tot een machtig koninkrijk uitgroeien. Maar Babel, de machtige cederboom, werd vernietigd: het werd veroverd door de koning van Perzië.

22,23 De Oppermachtige Here zegt: “Ik zal Zelf het mooiste twijgje van de top van de hoogste ceder nemen en dat planten op de top van de hoogste berg. Het zal uitgroeien tot een prachtige ceder, met veel takken en vruchten. Allerlei dieren zullen onder die boom bijeenkomen en zijn takken zullen bescherming bieden aan alle soorten vogels. 24 Iedereen zal moeten erkennen dat Ik, de Here, die hoge bomen omhak en lage bomen verhoog, de groene boom laat verdorren en de dorre boom laat bloeien. Ik, de Here, heb dit gezegd en zal het ook doen.”’

22 Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: I will also take of the lofty top of the cedar, and will set it; I will crop off from the topmost of its young twigs a tender one, and I will plant it upon a high and lofty mountain: 23 in the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it; and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all birds of every wing; in the shade of the branches thereof shall they dwell. 24 And all the trees of the field shall know that I, Jehovah, have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I, Jehovah, have spoken and have done it.

23 In the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it: and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all fowl of every wing; in the shadow of the branches thereof shall they dwell.
24 And all the trees of the field shall know that I the Lord have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the Lord have spoken and have done it.

22 “‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I myself will take a shoot(A) from the very top of a cedar and plant it; I will break off a tender sprig from its topmost shoots and plant it on a high and lofty mountain.(B) 23 On the mountain heights(C) of Israel I will plant it; it will produce branches and bear fruit(D) and become a splendid cedar. Birds of every kind will nest in it; they will find shelter in the shade of its branches.(E) 24 All the trees of the forest(F) will know that I the Lord bring down(G) the tall tree and make the low tree grow tall. I dry up the green tree and make the dry tree flourish.(H)
