9 3 The moraine of beasts. 10 The plague of botches and sores. 23 The horrible hail, thunder, and lightning. 26 The land of Goshen ever is excepted. 27 Pharaoh confesseth his wickedness. 33 Moses prayeth for him. 35 Yet he is obstinate.
1 Then the Lord said unto Moses, Go to Pharaoh, and tell him, Thus saith the Lord God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
2 But if thou refuse to let them go, and wilt yet hold them still,
3 Behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thy flock which is in the field: for upon the horses, upon the asses, upon the camels, upon the cattle, and upon the sheep shall be a [a]mighty great moraine.
4 And the Lord shall do [b]wonderfully between the beasts of Israel, and the beasts of Egypt: so that there shall nothing die at all, that pertaineth to the children of Israel.
5 And the Lord appointed a time, saying, Tomorrow the Lord shall finish this thing in this land.
6 So the Lord did this thing on the morrow, and all the cattle of Egypt died: but of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one.
7 Then Pharaoh [c]sent, and behold, there was not one of the cattle of the Israelites dead: and the heart of Pharaoh was obstinate, and he did not let the people go.
8 ¶ And the Lord said to Moses and to Aaron, Take your handful of [d]ashes of the furnace, and Moses shall sprinkle them toward the heaven in the sight of Pharaoh,
9 And they shall be turned to dust in all the land of Egypt: and it shall be as a scab breaking out into blisters upon man, and upon beast throughout all the land of Egypt.
10 Then they took ashes of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh: and Moses sprinkled them toward the heaven, and there came [a] [e]scab breaking out into blisters upon man, and upon beast.
11 And the sorcerers could not stand before Moses, because of the scab: for the scab was upon the enchanters and upon all the Egyptians.
12 And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he hearkened not unto them, (A)as the Lord had said unto Moses.
13 ¶ Also the Lord said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and tell him, Thus saith the Lord God of the Hebrews, Let my people go that they may serve me.
14 For I will at this time send my plagues upon [f]thine heart, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people, that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth.
15 For now I will stretch out mine hand, that I may smite thee and thy people with the pestilence: and thou shalt perish from the earth.
16 And indeed, (B)for this cause have [g]I appointed thee, to [h]show my power in thee, and to declare my [i]name throughout all the world.
17 Yet thou exaltest thyself against my people, and lettest them not go.
18 Behold, tomorrow this time I will cause to rain a mighty great hail, such as was not in Egypt since the foundation thereof was laid unto this time.
19 Send therefore now, and [j]gather the cattle, and all that thou hast in the field: for upon all the men, and the beasts, which are found in the field, and not brought home, the hail shall fall upon them, and they shall die.
20 Such then as feared the word of the Lord among the servants of Pharaoh, made his servants and his cattle flee into the houses.
21 But such as [k]regarded not the [l]word of the Lord, left his servants, and his cattle in the field.
22 ¶ And the Lord said to Moses, Stretch forth thine hand toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, upon man, and upon beast, and upon all the herbs of the field in the land of Egypt.
23 Then Moses stretched out his rod toward heaven, and the Lord sent thunder and [m]hail, and [n]lightning upon the ground: and the Lord caused hail to rain upon the land of Egypt.
24 So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, so grievous, as there was none throughout all the land of Egypt, since [o]it was a nation.
25 And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast: also the hail smote all the trees of the field and brake to pieces all the trees of the field.
26 Only in the land of Goshen (where the children of Israel were) was no hail.
27 Then Pharaoh sent and called for Moses and Aaron, and said unto them, I [p]have now sinned: the Lord is righteous, but I and my people are wicked.
28 Pray ye unto the Lord (for it is enough) that there be no more [q]mighty thunders, and hail, and I will let you go, and ye shall tarry no longer.
29 Then Moses said unto him, As soon as I am out of the city, I will spread mine hands unto the Lord, and the thunder shall cease, neither shall there be any more hail, that thou mayest know that (C)the earth is the Lord’s.
30 As for thee and thy servants, I know [r]afore I pray, ye will fear before the face of the Lord God.
31 (And the flax, and the barley were smitten: for the barley was eared, and the flax was bolled.
32 But the wheat and the rye were not smitten, for they were [s]hid in the ground.)
33 Then Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread his hands to the Lord, and the thunder and the hail ceased, neither rained it upon the earth.
34 And when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunder were ceased, he sinned again, and hardened his heart, both he, and his servants.
35 So the heart of Pharaoh was hardened: neither would he let the children of Israel go, as the Lord had said [t]by Moses.

The Fifth Plague: Livestock Diseased
9 Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Go to Pharaoh, and say to him, “Thus says the Lord, the God of the Hebrews: Let my people go, so that they may worship me. 2 For if you refuse to let them go and still hold them, 3 the hand of the Lord will strike with a deadly pestilence your livestock in the field: the horses, the donkeys, the camels, the herds, and the flocks. 4 But the Lord will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt, so that nothing shall die of all that belongs to the Israelites.”’ 5 The Lord set a time, saying, ‘Tomorrow the Lord will do this thing in the land.’ 6 And on the next day the Lord did so; all the livestock of the Egyptians died, but of the livestock of the Israelites not one died. 7 Pharaoh inquired and found that not one of the livestock of the Israelites was dead. But the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he would not let the people go.
The Sixth Plague: Boils
8 Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, ‘Take handfuls of soot from the kiln, and let Moses throw it in the air in the sight of Pharaoh. 9 It shall become fine dust all over the land of Egypt, and shall cause festering boils on humans and animals throughout the whole land of Egypt.’ 10 So they took soot from the kiln, and stood before Pharaoh, and Moses threw it in the air, and it caused festering boils on humans and animals. 11 The magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils, for the boils afflicted the magicians as well as all the Egyptians. 12 But the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he would not listen to them, just as the Lord had spoken to Moses.
The Seventh Plague: Thunder and Hail
13 Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Rise up early in the morning and present yourself before Pharaoh, and say to him, “Thus says the Lord, the God of the Hebrews: Let my people go, so that they may worship me. 14 For this time I will send all my plagues upon you yourself, and upon your officials, and upon your people, so that you may know that there is no one like me in all the earth. 15 For by now I could have stretched out my hand and struck you and your people with pestilence, and you would have been cut off from the earth. 16 But this is why I have let you live: to show you my power, and to make my name resound through all the earth. 17 You are still exalting yourself against my people, and will not let them go. 18 Tomorrow at this time I will cause the heaviest hail to fall that has ever fallen in Egypt from the day it was founded until now. 19 Send, therefore, and have your livestock and everything that you have in the open field brought to a secure place; every human or animal that is in the open field and is not brought under shelter will die when the hail comes down upon them.”’ 20 Those officials of Pharaoh who feared the word of the Lord hurried their slaves and livestock off to a secure place. 21 Those who did not regard the word of the Lord left their slaves and livestock in the open field.
22 The Lord said to Moses, ‘Stretch out your hand towards heaven so that hail may fall on the whole land of Egypt, on humans and animals and all the plants of the field in the land of Egypt.’ 23 Then Moses stretched out his staff towards heaven, and the Lord sent thunder and hail, and fire came down on the earth. And the Lord rained hail on the land of Egypt; 24 there was hail with fire flashing continually in the midst of it, such heavy hail as had never fallen in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. 25 The hail struck down everything that was in the open field throughout all the land of Egypt, both human and animal; the hail also struck down all the plants of the field, and shattered every tree in the field. 26 Only in the land of Goshen, where the Israelites were, there was no hail.
27 Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron, and said to them, ‘This time I have sinned; the Lord is in the right, and I and my people are in the wrong. 28 Pray to the Lord! Enough of God’s thunder and hail! I will let you go; you need stay no longer.’ 29 Moses said to him, ‘As soon as I have gone out of the city, I will stretch out my hands to the Lord; the thunder will cease, and there will be no more hail, so that you may know that the earth is the Lord’s. 30 But as for you and your officials, I know that you do not yet fear the Lord God.’ 31 (Now the flax and the barley were ruined, for the barley was in the ear and the flax was in bud. 32 But the wheat and the spelt were not ruined, for they are late in coming up.) 33 So Moses left Pharaoh, went out of the city, and stretched out his hands to the Lord; then the thunder and the hail ceased, and the rain no longer poured down on the earth. 34 But when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunder had ceased, he sinned once more and hardened his heart, he and his officials. 35 So the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he would not let the Israelites go, just as the Lord had spoken through Moses.
