The Second Plague: Frogs
8 And the Lord spoke to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Let My people go, (A)that they may serve Me. 2 But if you (B)refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all your territory with (C)frogs. 3 So the river shall bring forth frogs abundantly, which shall go up and come into your house, into your (D)bedroom, on your bed, into the houses of your servants, on your people, into your ovens, and into your kneading bowls. 4 And the frogs shall come up on you, on your people, and on all your servants.” ’ ”
5 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, “Say to Aaron, (E)‘Stretch out your hand with your rod over the streams, over the rivers, and over the ponds, and cause frogs to come up on the land of Egypt.’ ” 6 So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and (F)the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt. 7 (G)And the magicians did so with their [a]enchantments, and brought up frogs on the land of Egypt.
8 Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, (H)“Entreat[b] the Lord that He may take away the frogs from me and from my people; and I will let the people (I)go, that they may sacrifice to the Lord.”
9 And Moses said to Pharaoh, “Accept the honor of saying when I shall intercede for you, for your servants, and for your people, to destroy the frogs from you and your houses, that they may remain in the river only.”
10 So he said, “Tomorrow.” And he said, “Let it be according to your word, that you may know that (J)there is no one like the Lord our God. 11 And the frogs shall depart from you, from your houses, from your servants, and from your people. They shall remain in the river only.”
12 Then Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh. And Moses (K)cried out to the Lord concerning the frogs which He had brought against Pharaoh. 13 So the Lord did according to the word of Moses. And the frogs died out of the houses, out of the courtyards, and out of the fields. 14 They gathered them together in heaps, and the land stank. 15 But when Pharaoh saw that there was (L)relief, (M)he hardened his heart and did not heed them, as the Lord had said.
The Third Plague: Lice
16 So the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Stretch out your rod, and strike the dust of the land, so that it may become [c]lice throughout all the land of Egypt.’ ” 17 And they did so. For Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod and struck the dust of the earth, and (N)it became lice on man and beast. All the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt.
18 Now (O)the magicians so worked with their [d]enchantments to bring forth lice, but they (P)could not. So there were lice on man and beast. 19 Then the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is (Q)the[e] finger of God.” But Pharaoh’s (R)heart grew hard, and he did not heed them, just as the Lord had said.
The Fourth Plague: Flies
20 And the Lord said to Moses, (S)“Rise early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh as he comes out to the water. Then say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord: (T)“Let My people go, that they may serve Me. 21 Or else, if you will not let My people go, behold, I will send swarms of flies on you and your servants, on your people and into your houses. The houses of the Egyptians shall be full of swarms of flies, and also the ground on which they stand. 22 And in that day (U)I will set apart the land of (V)Goshen, in which My people dwell, that no swarms of flies shall be there, in order that you may (W)know that I am the Lord in the midst of the (X)land. 23 I will [f]make a difference between My people and your people. Tomorrow this (Y)sign shall be.” ’ ” 24 And the Lord did so. (Z)Thick swarms of flies came into the house of Pharaoh, into his servants’ houses, and into all the land of Egypt. The land was corrupted because of the swarms of flies.
25 Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God in the land.”
26 And Moses said, “It is not right to do so, for we would be sacrificing (AA)the abomination of the Egyptians to the Lord our God. If we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, then will they not [g]stone us? 27 We will go (AB)three days’ journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the Lord our God as (AC)He will command us.”
28 So Pharaoh said, “I will let you go, that you may sacrifice to the Lord your God in the wilderness; only you shall not go very far away. (AD)Intercede for me.”
29 Then Moses said, “Indeed I am going out from you, and I will entreat the Lord, that the swarms of flies may depart tomorrow from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people. But let Pharaoh not (AE)deal deceitfully anymore in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the Lord.”
30 So Moses went out from Pharaoh and (AF)entreated the Lord. 31 And the Lord did according to the word of Moses; He removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people. Not one remained. 32 But Pharaoh (AG)hardened his heart at this time also; neither would he let the people go.

8 1 (7.26) el Señor le dijo a Moisés:
—Ve a ver al faraón, y dile: “Así dice el Señor: Deja ir a mi pueblo, para que me adore. 2 (7.27) Porque si tú no lo dejas ir, yo castigaré con ranas a todo tu país. 3 (7.28) El río hervirá de ranas, las cuales saldrán y se meterán en tu palacio, en el lugar donde duermes, sobre tu cama, en las casas de tus funcionarios y de tu gente, en tus hornos y en donde amasan tu pan. 4 (7.29) Las ranas saltarán sobre ti, sobre tus funcionarios y sobre toda tu gente.”
5 (1) El Señor le dijo a Moisés:
—Dile a Aarón que extienda su bastón sobre los ríos, arroyos y lagunas, para que de allí salgan ranas y llenen el país de Egipto.
6 (2) Aarón lo extendió sobre las aguas de Egipto, y todo el país se llenó de las ranas que salieron de allí. 7 (3) Sin embargo, los magos hicieron lo mismo por medio de sus artes mágicas, y también trajeron ranas sobre el territorio egipcio. 8 (4) Entonces el faraón mandó llamar a Moisés y Aarón, y les dijo:
—Pídanle al Señor que nos quite las ranas a mí y a mi gente, y dejaré que tu gente vaya a ofrecer sacrificios al Señor.
9 (5) Moisés le contestó al faraón:
—Dime cuándo quieres que yo le pida por ti, por tus funcionarios y por tu gente, para que las ranas se alejen de ti y de tu palacio, y se queden sólo en el río.
10 (6) —Mañana mismo —dijo el faraón.
Y Moisés contestó:
—Así se hará, para que sepas que no hay nadie como el Señor nuestro Dios. 11 (7) Las ranas se irán de tu palacio y se quedarán solamente en el río. Ya no te molestarán ni a ti, ni a tus funcionarios, ni a tu gente.
12 (8) Moisés y Aarón salieron del palacio del faraón. Después Moisés pidió al Señor que alejara las ranas que había enviado sobre el faraón. 13 (9) El Señor hizo lo que Moisés le pedía, y murieron las ranas que había en casas, patios y campos. 14 (10) La gente recogía las ranas muertas y las amontonaba, y por todas partes olía mal. 15 (11) Sin embargo, en cuanto el faraón se vio libre de su problema, se puso terco y no les hizo caso a Moisés y Aarón, tal como el Señor lo había dicho.
La plaga de mosquitos
16 (12) El Señor le dijo a Moisés:
—Dile a Aarón que extienda su bastón y que golpee con él el polvo de la tierra, para que se convierta en mosquitos en todo Egipto.
17 (13) Así lo hicieron. Aarón extendió su bastón y golpeó el polvo del suelo, y todo el polvo de Egipto se convirtió en mosquitos que atacaban a hombres y animales. 18 (14) Los magos trataron también de producir mosquitos por medio de sus artes mágicas, pero no pudieron. Mientras tanto, los mosquitos atacaban a hombres y animales. 19 (15) Entonces los magos le dijeron al faraón:
—¡Aquí está la mano de Dios!
Pero el faraón se puso terco y no les hizo caso, tal como el Señor lo había dicho.
La plaga de tábanos
20 (16) El Señor le dijo a Moisés:
—El faraón va a ir mañana temprano al río, así que levántate de madrugada y ve a decirle: “Así ha dicho el Señor: Deja ir a mi pueblo, para que me adore. 21 (17) Porque si tú no lo dejas ir, yo enviaré tábanos sobre ti, sobre tus funcionarios y tu gente, y sobre tus casas. Se llenarán de tábanos las casas de los egipcios, y hasta el suelo mismo. 22 (18) Pero cuando eso suceda, haré una excepción con la región de Gosen, donde vive mi pueblo. Allí no habrá un solo tábano. Así sabrás que yo, el Señor, estoy en este país. 23 (19) Haré distinción entre mi pueblo y el tuyo. Esto tendrá lugar mañana.”
24 (20) Así lo hizo el Señor, y una espesa nube de tábanos invadió el palacio del faraón, las casas de sus funcionarios y todo el territorio egipcio. Los tábanos dejaron el país completamente arruinado.
25 (21) Entonces el faraón mandó llamar a Moisés y Aarón, y les dijo:
—Vayan a ofrecer sacrificios a su Dios, pero sin salir del país.
26 (22) Y Moisés contestó:
—No estaría bien hacerlo así, porque los animales que ofrecemos al Señor nuestro Dios son sagrados para los egipcios. Si los egipcios nos vieran sacrificar los animales que ellos adoran, estoy seguro de que nos matarían a pedradas. 27 (23) Debemos ir al desierto, a tres días de camino, y ofrecer allí sacrificios al Señor nuestro Dios, tal como él nos lo ordene.
28 (24) Entonces el faraón dijo:
—Los dejaré ir al desierto para que ofrezcan sacrificios al Señor su Dios, con la condición de que no se vayan demasiado lejos. Y pídanle también por mí.
29 (25) Y Moisés contestó:
—En cuanto yo salga de aquí, le pediré al Señor que mañana se alejen los tábanos de ti, de tus funcionarios y de tu pueblo, siempre y cuando no sigas engañándonos ni impidiendo que los israelitas vayan a ofrecer sacrificios al Señor.
30 (26) En cuanto Moisés salió del palacio del faraón, oró al Señor, 31 (27) y el Señor hizo lo que Moisés le pidió: los tábanos se alejaron del faraón, de sus funcionarios y de su gente. 32 (28) Pero el faraón volvió a ponerse terco, y no dejó ir a los israelitas.

The Second Plague: Frogs
8 [a] Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord, “Let my people go, that (A)they may serve me. 2 But if you (B)refuse to let them go, behold, I will plague all your country with (C)frogs. 3 The Nile shall swarm with frogs that shall come up into your house and into (D)your bedroom and on your bed and into the houses of your servants and your people,[b] and into your ovens and your kneading bowls. 4 The frogs shall come up on you and on your people and on all your servants.”’” 5 [c] And the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, (E)‘Stretch out your hand with your staff over the rivers, over the canals and over the pools, and make frogs come up on the land of Egypt!’” 6 So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and (F)the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt. 7 But (G)the magicians did the same by their secret arts and made frogs come up on the land of Egypt.
8 Then Pharaoh called Moses and Aaron and said, (H)“Plead with the Lord to take away the frogs from me and from my people, and (I)I will let the people go to sacrifice to the Lord.” 9 Moses said to Pharaoh, “Be pleased to command me when (J)I am to plead for you and for your servants and for your people, that the frogs be cut off from you and your houses and be left only in the Nile.” 10 And he said, “Tomorrow.” Moses said, “Be it as you say, so (K)that you may know that (L)there is no one like the Lord our God. 11 The frogs shall go away from you and your houses and your servants and your people. They shall be left only in the Nile.” 12 So Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh, and Moses cried to the Lord about the frogs, as he had agreed with Pharaoh.[d] 13 And the Lord did according to the word of Moses. The frogs died out in the houses, the courtyards, and the fields. 14 And they gathered them together in heaps, and the land stank. 15 But when Pharaoh saw that there was a (M)respite, he (N)hardened his heart and would not listen to them, as the Lord had said.
The Third Plague: Gnats
16 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, (O)‘Stretch out your staff and strike the dust of the earth, so that it may become gnats in all the land of Egypt.’” 17 And they did so. Aaron stretched out his hand with his staff and struck the dust of the earth, and (P)there were gnats on man and beast. All the dust of the earth became gnats in all the land of Egypt. 18 The (Q)magicians tried by their secret arts to produce gnats, but they could not. So there were gnats on man and beast. 19 Then the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is (R)the finger of God.” But Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he would not listen to them, as the Lord had said.

20 Then the Lord said to Moses, (S)“Rise up early in the morning and present yourself to Pharaoh, as he goes out to the water, and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord, (T)“Let my people go, that they may serve me. 21 Or else, if you will not let my people go, behold, I will send swarms of flies on you and your servants and your people, and into your houses. And the houses of the Egyptians shall be filled with swarms of flies, and also the ground on which they stand. 22 But on that day (U)I will set apart the land of Goshen, where my people dwell, so that no swarms of flies shall be there, (V)that you may know that I am the Lord in the midst of the earth.[e] 23 Thus I will put a division[f] between my people and your people. Tomorrow this sign shall happen.”’” 24 And the Lord did so. (W)There came great swarms of flies into the house of Pharaoh and into his servants' houses. Throughout all the land of Egypt the land was ruined by the swarms of flies.
25 Then Pharaoh called Moses and Aaron and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God within the land.” 26 But Moses said, “It would not be right to do so, for the offerings we shall sacrifice to the Lord our God are an (X)abomination to the Egyptians. If we sacrifice offerings (Y)abominable to the Egyptians before their eyes, will they not stone us? 27 We must go (Z)three days' journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the Lord our God (AA)as he tells us.” 28 So Pharaoh said, “I will let you go to sacrifice to the Lord your God in the wilderness; only you must not go very far away. (AB)Plead for me.” 29 Then Moses said, “Behold, I am going out from you and I will plead with the Lord that the swarms of flies may depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people, tomorrow. Only let not Pharaoh (AC)cheat again by not letting the people go to sacrifice to the Lord.” 30 So Moses went out from Pharaoh and prayed to the Lord. 31 And the Lord did as Moses asked, and removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people; not one remained. 32 But Pharaoh (AD)hardened his heart this time also, and did not let the people go.
