8 And the Lord said to Moses: Go in to Pharao, and thou shalt say to him: Thus saith the Lord: Let my people go to sacrifice to me.
2 But if thou wilt not let them go behold I will strike all thy coasts with frogs.
3 And the river shall bring forth an abundance of frogs: which shall come up, and enter into thy house, and thy bedchamber, and upon thy bed, and in the houses of thy servants, and to thy people, and into thy ovens, and into the remains of thy meats;
4 And the frogs shall come in to thee and to thy people, and to all thy servants.
5 And the Lord said to Moses: Say to Aaron, Stretch forth thy hand upon the streams and upon the rivers and the pools, and bring forth frogs upon the land of Egypt.
6 And Aaron stretched forth his hand upon the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up, and covered the land of Egypt.
7 And the magicians also by their enchantments did in like manner, and the brought forth frogs upon all the land of Egypt.
8 But Pharao called Moses and Aaron and said to them: Pray ye to the Lord to take away the frogs from me and from my people; and I will let the people go to sacrifice to the Lord.
9 And Moses said to Pharao: Set me a time when I shall pray for thee, and for thy servants, and for thy people, that the frogs may be driven away from thee and from thy house, and from thy servants, and from thy people: and may remain only in the river.
10 And he answered: To morrow. But he said: I will do according to thy word; that thou mayst know that there is none like to the Lord our God.
11 And the frogs shall depart from thee, and from thy house, and from thy servants, and from thy people; and shall remain only in the river.
12 And Moses and Aaron went forth from Pharao: and Moses cried to the Lord for the promise, which he had made to Pharao concerning the frogs.
13 And the Lord did according to the word of Moses: and the frogs died out of the houses, and out of the villages, and out of the fields:
14 And they gathered them together into immense heaps, and the land was corrupted.
15 And Pharao seeing that rest was given, hardened his own heart, and did not hear them, as the Lord had commanded.
16 And the Lord said to Moses: Say to Aaron, Stretch forth thy rod, and strike the dust of the earth: and may there be sciniphs in all the land of Egypt.
17 And they did so. And Aaron stretched forth his hand, holding the rod: and he struck the dust of the earth, and there came sciniphs on men and on beasts: all the dust of the earth was turned into sciniphs through all the land of Egypt.
18 And the magicians with their enchantments practiced in like manner, to bring forth sciniphs, and they could not and there were sciniphs as well on men as on beasts.
19 And the magicians said to Pharao This is the finger of God. And Pharao heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them, as the Lord had commanded.
20 The Lord also said to Moses: Arise early, and stand before Pharao: for he will go forth to the waters: and thou shalt say to him: Thus saith the Lord: Let my people go to sacrifice to me.
21 But if thou wilt not let them go, behold I will send in upon thee, and upon thy servants, and upon thy houses all kind of flies: and the houses of the Egyptians shall be filled with flies of divers kinds, and the whole land wherein they shall be.
22 And I will make the land of Gessen wherein my people is, wonderful in that lay, so that flies shall not be there: and thou shalt know that I am the Lord in the midst of the earth.
23 And I will put a division between my people and thy people: to morrow shall this sign be.
24 And the Lord did so. And there came a very grievous swarm of flies into he houses of Pharao and of his servants, and into all the land of Egypt: and the land was corrupted by this kind of flies.
25 And Pharao called Moses and Aaron, and said to them: Go, and sacrifice to your God in this land.
26 And Moses said: It cannot be so: for we shall sacrifice the abominations of the Egyptians to the Lord our God: now if we kill those things which the Egyptians worship, in their presence, they will stone us.
27 We will go three days' journey into the wilderness: and we will sacrifice to the Lord our God, as he hath commanded us.
28 And Pharao said: I will let you go to sacrifice to the Lord your God in the wilderness: but go no farther: pray for me.
29 And Moses said: I will go out from thee, and will pray to the Lord: and the flies shall depart from Pharao, and from his servants, and from his people to morrow: but do not deceive any more, in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the Lord.
30 So Moses went out from Pharao, and prayed to the Lord.
31 And he did according to his word: and he took away the flies from Pharao, and from his servants, and from his people: there was not left so much as one.
32 And Pharao's heart was hardened, so that neither this time would he let the people go.

The Second Plague: Frogs
8 And the Lord spoke to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Let My people go, (A)that they may serve Me. 2 But if you (B)refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all your territory with (C)frogs. 3 So the river shall bring forth frogs abundantly, which shall go up and come into your house, into your (D)bedroom, on your bed, into the houses of your servants, on your people, into your ovens, and into your kneading bowls. 4 And the frogs shall come up on you, on your people, and on all your servants.” ’ ”
5 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, “Say to Aaron, (E)‘Stretch out your hand with your rod over the streams, over the rivers, and over the ponds, and cause frogs to come up on the land of Egypt.’ ” 6 So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and (F)the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt. 7 (G)And the magicians did so with their [a]enchantments, and brought up frogs on the land of Egypt.
8 Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, (H)“Entreat[b] the Lord that He may take away the frogs from me and from my people; and I will let the people (I)go, that they may sacrifice to the Lord.”
9 And Moses said to Pharaoh, “Accept the honor of saying when I shall intercede for you, for your servants, and for your people, to destroy the frogs from you and your houses, that they may remain in the river only.”
10 So he said, “Tomorrow.” And he said, “Let it be according to your word, that you may know that (J)there is no one like the Lord our God. 11 And the frogs shall depart from you, from your houses, from your servants, and from your people. They shall remain in the river only.”
12 Then Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh. And Moses (K)cried out to the Lord concerning the frogs which He had brought against Pharaoh. 13 So the Lord did according to the word of Moses. And the frogs died out of the houses, out of the courtyards, and out of the fields. 14 They gathered them together in heaps, and the land stank. 15 But when Pharaoh saw that there was (L)relief, (M)he hardened his heart and did not heed them, as the Lord had said.
The Third Plague: Lice
16 So the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Stretch out your rod, and strike the dust of the land, so that it may become [c]lice throughout all the land of Egypt.’ ” 17 And they did so. For Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod and struck the dust of the earth, and (N)it became lice on man and beast. All the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt.
18 Now (O)the magicians so worked with their [d]enchantments to bring forth lice, but they (P)could not. So there were lice on man and beast. 19 Then the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is (Q)the[e] finger of God.” But Pharaoh’s (R)heart grew hard, and he did not heed them, just as the Lord had said.
The Fourth Plague: Flies
20 And the Lord said to Moses, (S)“Rise early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh as he comes out to the water. Then say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord: (T)“Let My people go, that they may serve Me. 21 Or else, if you will not let My people go, behold, I will send swarms of flies on you and your servants, on your people and into your houses. The houses of the Egyptians shall be full of swarms of flies, and also the ground on which they stand. 22 And in that day (U)I will set apart the land of (V)Goshen, in which My people dwell, that no swarms of flies shall be there, in order that you may (W)know that I am the Lord in the midst of the (X)land. 23 I will [f]make a difference between My people and your people. Tomorrow this (Y)sign shall be.” ’ ” 24 And the Lord did so. (Z)Thick swarms of flies came into the house of Pharaoh, into his servants’ houses, and into all the land of Egypt. The land was corrupted because of the swarms of flies.
25 Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God in the land.”
26 And Moses said, “It is not right to do so, for we would be sacrificing (AA)the abomination of the Egyptians to the Lord our God. If we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, then will they not [g]stone us? 27 We will go (AB)three days’ journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the Lord our God as (AC)He will command us.”
28 So Pharaoh said, “I will let you go, that you may sacrifice to the Lord your God in the wilderness; only you shall not go very far away. (AD)Intercede for me.”
29 Then Moses said, “Indeed I am going out from you, and I will entreat the Lord, that the swarms of flies may depart tomorrow from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people. But let Pharaoh not (AE)deal deceitfully anymore in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the Lord.”
30 So Moses went out from Pharaoh and (AF)entreated the Lord. 31 And the Lord did according to the word of Moses; He removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people. Not one remained. 32 But Pharaoh (AG)hardened his heart at this time also; neither would he let the people go.

8 El Señor le ordenó a Moisés: «Ve a advertirle al faraón que así dice el Señor: “Deja ir a mi pueblo para que me rinda culto. 2 Si no los dejas ir, infestaré de ranas todo tu país. 3 El Nilo hervirá de ranas, y se meterán en tu palacio, y hasta en tu alcoba y en tu cama, y en las casas de tus funcionarios y de tu pueblo, y en tus hornos y artesas. 4 Treparán sobre ti, sobre tu pueblo y sobre tus funcionarios”».
5 Luego el Señor le dijo a Moisés: «Dile a Aarón que extienda su vara sobre ríos, arroyos y lagunas, para que todo Egipto se llene de ranas».
6 Aarón extendió su brazo sobre las aguas de Egipto, y las ranas llegaron a cubrir todo el país. 7 Pero, mediante sus artes secretas, los magos hicieron lo mismo, de modo que hicieron venir ranas sobre todo Egipto. 8 Entonces el faraón mandó llamar a Moisés y a Aarón, y les dijo:
―Rogadle al Señor que aleje las ranas de mí y de mi pueblo, y yo dejaré ir al pueblo para que le ofrezca sacrificios.
9 Moisés le respondió:
―Dime cuándo quieres que ruegue al Señor por ti, por tus funcionarios y por tu pueblo. Las ranas se quedarán solo en el Nilo, y tú y tus casas os libraréis de ellas.
10 ―Mañana mismo —contestó el faraón.
―Así se hará —respondió Moisés—, y sabrás que no hay dios como el Señor, nuestro Dios. 11 Las ranas se apartarán de ti y de tus casas, de tus funcionarios y de tu pueblo, y se quedarán únicamente en el Nilo.
12 Tan pronto como salieron Moisés y Aarón de hablar con el faraón, Moisés clamó al Señor en cuanto a las ranas que había mandado sobre el faraón. 13 El Señor atendió a los ruegos de Moisés, y las ranas comenzaron a morirse en las casas, en los patios y en los campos. 14 La gente las recogía y las amontonaba, y el hedor de las ranas llenaba el país. 15 Pero, en cuanto el faraón experimentó alivio, endureció su corazón y, tal como el Señor lo había advertido, ya no quiso saber nada de Moisés ni de Aarón.
La plaga de mosquitos
16 El Señor le ordenó a Moisés que le dijera a Aarón: «Extiende tu vara y golpea el suelo, para que en todo Egipto el polvo se convierta en mosquitos». 17 Así lo hizo. Y Aarón extendió su brazo, golpeó el suelo con la vara, y del polvo salieron mosquitos que picaban a hombres y animales. En todo Egipto el polvo se convirtió en mosquitos.
18 Los magos, recurriendo a sus artes secretas, trataron también de producir mosquitos, pero no pudieron. Mientras tanto, los mosquitos picaban a hombres y animales. 19 «En todo esto anda la mano de Dios», admitieron los magos ante el faraón, pero este había endurecido su corazón, así que no les hizo caso, tal como el Señor lo había advertido.
La plaga de tábanos
20 El Señor le dijo a Moisés: «Mañana vas a madrugar. Le saldrás al paso al faraón cuando baje al río, y le advertirás: “Así dice el Señor: ‘Deja ir a mi pueblo para que me rinda culto. 21 Si no lo dejas ir, enviaré enjambres de tábanos sobre ti y sobre tus funcionarios, sobre tu pueblo y sobre tus casas. Todas las casas egipcias, y aun el suelo que pisan, se llenarán de tábanos. 22 Cuando eso suceda, la única región donde no habrá tábanos será la de Gosén, porque allí vive mi pueblo. Así sabrás que yo, el Señor, estoy en este país. 23 Haré distinción[a] entre mi pueblo y tu pueblo. Esta señal milagrosa tendrá lugar mañana’ ”».
24 Y así lo hizo el Señor. Densas nubes de tábanos irrumpieron en el palacio del faraón y en las casas de sus funcionarios, y por todo Egipto. Por causa de los tábanos, el país quedó arruinado. 25 Llamó entonces el faraón a Moisés y a Aarón, y les dijo:
―Id y ofreced sacrificios a vuestro Dios aquí en el país.
26 ―No estaría bien hacerlo así —contestó Moisés—, porque los sacrificios que ofrecemos al Señor nuestro Dios resultan ofensivos para los egipcios. Si a la vista de ellos ofrecemos sacrificios que les son ofensivos, seguramente nos apedrearán. 27 Tenemos que hacer un viaje de tres días, hasta el desierto, para ofrecerle sacrificios al Señor nuestro Dios, pues así nos lo ha ordenado.
28 El faraón respondió:
―Voy a dejaros ir para que ofrezcáis sacrificios al Señor vuestro Dios en el desierto, con tal de que no os vayáis muy lejos y de que roguéis a Dios por mí.
29 ―En cuanto salga yo de aquí —le aseguró Moisés al faraón—, rogaré por ti al Señor, y de aquí a mañana los tábanos se habrán apartado de ti, de tus funcionarios y de tu pueblo. Pero tú no debes seguir engañándonos ni impidiendo que el pueblo vaya a ofrecerle sacrificios al Señor.
30 Así que Moisés salió y le rogó al Señor por el faraón. 31 El Señor accedió a los ruegos de Moisés y apartó los tábanos del faraón, de sus funcionarios y de su pueblo. No quedó un solo tábano. 32 Pero una vez más el faraón endureció su corazón y no dejó que el pueblo se fuera.
