7 Then the Lord said to Moses, “See, I have made you like God(A) to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron will be your prophet.(B) 2 You are to say everything I command you, and your brother Aaron is to tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites go out of his country. 3 But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart,(C) and though I multiply my signs and wonders(D) in Egypt, 4 he will not listen(E) to you. Then I will lay my hand on Egypt and with mighty acts of judgment(F) I will bring out my divisions,(G) my people the Israelites. 5 And the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord(H) when I stretch out my hand(I) against Egypt and bring the Israelites out of it.”
6 Moses and Aaron did just as the Lord commanded(J) them. 7 Moses was eighty years old(K) and Aaron eighty-three when they spoke to Pharaoh.
Aaron’s Staff Becomes a Snake
8 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, 9 “When Pharaoh says to you, ‘Perform a miracle,(L)’ then say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh,’ and it will become a snake.”(M)
10 So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did just as the Lord commanded. Aaron threw his staff down in front of Pharaoh and his officials, and it became a snake. 11 Pharaoh then summoned wise men and sorcerers,(N) and the Egyptian magicians(O) also did the same things by their secret arts:(P) 12 Each one threw down his staff and it became a snake. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs. 13 Yet Pharaoh’s heart(Q) became hard and he would not listen(R) to them, just as the Lord had said.
The Plague of Blood
14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh’s heart is unyielding;(S) he refuses to let the people go. 15 Go to Pharaoh in the morning as he goes out to the river.(T) Confront him on the bank of the Nile,(U) and take in your hand the staff that was changed into a snake. 16 Then say to him, ‘The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has sent me to say to you: Let my people go, so that they may worship(V) me in the wilderness. But until now you have not listened.(W) 17 This is what the Lord says: By this you will know that I am the Lord:(X) With the staff that is in my hand I will strike the water of the Nile, and it will be changed into blood.(Y) 18 The fish in the Nile will die, and the river will stink;(Z) the Egyptians will not be able to drink its water.’”(AA)
19 The Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Take your staff(AB) and stretch out your hand(AC) over the waters of Egypt—over the streams and canals, over the ponds and all the reservoirs—and they will turn to blood.’ Blood will be everywhere in Egypt, even in vessels[a] of wood and stone.”
20 Moses and Aaron did just as the Lord had commanded.(AD) He raised his staff in the presence of Pharaoh and his officials and struck the water of the Nile,(AE) and all the water was changed into blood.(AF) 21 The fish in the Nile died, and the river smelled so bad that the Egyptians could not drink its water. Blood was everywhere in Egypt.
22 But the Egyptian magicians(AG) did the same things by their secret arts,(AH) and Pharaoh’s heart(AI) became hard; he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord had said. 23 Instead, he turned and went into his palace, and did not take even this to heart. 24 And all the Egyptians dug along the Nile to get drinking water(AJ), because they could not drink the water of the river.

25 Seven days passed after the Lord struck the Nile.

Il bastone cambiato in serpente
7 Il Signore disse a Mosè: «Vedi, io ti ho posto a far le veci di Dio per il faraone: Aronne, tuo fratello, sarà il tuo profeta. 2 Tu gli dirai quanto io ti ordinerò: Aronne, tuo fratello, parlerà al faraone perché lasci partire gli Israeliti dal suo paese. 3 Ma io indurirò il cuore del faraone e moltiplicherò i miei segni e i miei prodigi nel paese d'Egitto. 4 Il faraone non vi ascolterà e io porrò la mano contro l'Egitto e farò così uscire dal paese d'Egitto le mie schiere, il mio popolo degli Israeliti, con l'intervento di grandi castighi. 5 Allora gli Egiziani sapranno che io sono il Signore, quando stenderò la mano contro l'Egitto e farò uscire di mezzo a loro gli Israeliti!».
6 Mosè e Aronne eseguirono quanto il Signore aveva loro comandato; operarono esattamente così. 7 Mosè aveva ottant'anni e Aronne ottantatrè, quando parlarono al faraone.
8 Il Signore disse a Mosè e ad Aronne: 9 «Quando il faraone vi chiederà: Fate un prodigio a vostro sostegno! tu dirai ad Aronne: Prendi il bastone e gettalo davanti al faraone e diventerà un serpente!». 10 Mosè e Aronne vennero dunque dal faraone ed eseguirono quanto il Signore aveva loro comandato: Aronne gettò il bastone davanti al faraone e davanti ai suoi servi ed esso divenne un serpente. 11 Allora il faraone convocò i sapienti e gli incantatori, e anche i maghi dell'Egitto, con le loro magie, operarono la stessa cosa. 12 Gettarono ciascuno il suo bastone e i bastoni divennero serpenti. Ma il bastone di Aronne inghiottì i loro bastoni. 13 Però il cuore del faraone si ostinò e non diede loro ascolto, secondo quanto aveva predetto il Signore.

14 Poi il Signore disse a Mosè: «Il cuore del faraone è irremovibile: si è rifiutato di lasciar partire il popolo. 15 Và dal faraone al mattino quando uscirà verso le acque. Tu starai davanti a lui sulla riva del Nilo, tenendo in mano il bastone che si è cambiato in serpente. 16 Gli riferirai: Il Signore, il Dio degli Ebrei, mi ha inviato a dirti: Lascia partire il mio popolo, perché possa servirmi nel deserto; ma tu finora non hai obbedito. 17 Dice il Signore: Da questo fatto saprai che io sono il Signore; ecco, con il bastone che ho in mano io batto un colpo sulle acque che sono nel Nilo: esse si muteranno in sangue. 18 I pesci che sono nel Nilo moriranno e il Nilo ne diventerà fetido, così che gli Egiziani non potranno più bere le acque del Nilo!». 19 Il Signore disse a Mosè: «Comanda ad Aronne: Prendi il tuo bastone e stendi la mano sulle acque degli Egiziani, sui loro fiumi, canali, stagni, e su tutte le loro raccolte di acqua; diventino sangue, e ci sia sangue in tutto il paese d'Egitto, perfino nei recipienti di legno e di pietra!».
20 Mosè e Aronne eseguirono quanto aveva ordinato il Signore: Aronne alzò il bastone e percosse le acque che erano nel Nilo sotto gli occhi del faraone e dei suoi servi. Tutte le acque che erano nel Nilo si mutarono in sangue. 21 I pesci che erano nel Nilo morirono e il Nilo ne divenne fetido, così che gli Egiziani non poterono più berne le acque. Vi fu sangue in tutto il paese d'Egitto. 22 Ma i maghi dell'Egitto, con le loro magie, operarono la stessa cosa. Il cuore del faraone si ostinò e non diede loro ascolto, secondo quanto aveva predetto il Signore. 23 Il faraone voltò le spalle e rientrò nella sua casa e non tenne conto neppure di questo fatto. 24 Tutti gli Egiziani scavarono allora nei dintorni del Nilo per attingervi acqua da bere, perché non potevano bere le acque del Nilo. 25 Sette giorni trascorsero dopo che il Signore aveva colpito il Nilo.
2a piaga: le rane
26 Poi il Signore disse a Mosè: «Và a riferire al faraone: Dice il Signore: Lascia andare il mio popolo perché mi possa servire! 27 Se tu rifiuti di lasciarlo andare, ecco, io colpirò tutto il tuo territorio con le rane: 28 il Nilo comincerà a pullulare di rane; esse usciranno, ti entreranno in casa, nella camera dove dormi e sul tuo letto, nella casa dei tuoi ministri e tra il tuo popolo, nei tuoi forni e nelle tue madie. 29 Contro di te e contro tutti i tuoi ministri usciranno le rane».

7 Então o SENHOR respondeu a Moisés:
—Olhe, eu farei com que você seja como Deus para o faraó, e o seu irmão Aarão será como seu profeta. 2 Tudo o que eu lhe ordenar, você dirá ao seu irmão Aarão. E ele falará com o faraó para que deixe sair os israelitas do seu país. 3 Mas eu vou endurecer o coração do faraó para fazer muitos sinais e milagres no Egito. 4 O faraó não vai fazer o que vocês lhe pedirem, e eu mostrarei a minha grande justiça libertando do Egito os meus exércitos, isto é, o meu povo, os israelitas. 5 Assim os egípcios saberão que eu sou o SENHOR, quando levantar a minha mão contra o Egito e tirar de lá os israelitas.
6 Moisés e Aarão fizeram exatamente o que o SENHOR tinha lhes ordenado. 7 Moisés tinha oitenta anos e Aarão tinha oitenta e três quando foram falar com o faraó.
8 O SENHOR disse a Moisés e a Aarão:
9 —Moisés, quando o faraó lhes falar: “Façam um milagre”, você dirá a Aarão: “Pegue sua vara e atire-a ao chão, diante do faraó, e ela se transformará numa cobra”.
10 Moisés e Aarão apresentaram-se diante do faraó e fizeram o que o SENHOR tinha lhes ordenado. Aarão atirou a vara ao chão, diante do faraó e dos seus ministros, e ela se transformou numa cobra. 11 Então o faraó chamou os seus sábios e os seus feiticeiros. E também os magos do Egito fizeram a mesma coisa com as suas mágicas secretas. 12 Cada um deles atirou a sua vara ao chão, e as varas também se tornaram em cobras. Mas, quando isso aconteceu, a vara de Aarão comeu todas as outras. 13 Mesmo assim o coração do faraó continuou endurecido e não fez o que eles tinham lhe pedido, tal como o SENHOR tinha lhes dito.
A primeira praga: a água se transforma em sangue
14 O SENHOR disse a Moisés:
—O faraó é teimoso e não quer libertar o meu povo. 15 Portanto, de manhã cedo, quando o faraó descer ao rio, espere por ele na margem do rio. Leve com você a vara que se transformou numa cobra. 16 Então diga a ele: “O SENHOR, o Deus dos hebreus, me mandou dizer que deixasse o seu povo partir para adorá-lo no deserto. Mas você tem recusado até agora. 17 Por isso, o SENHOR diz: ‘Agora ficará sabendo que eu sou o SENHOR’. Com a vara que tenho na mão, vou bater na água do Nilo e ela se transformará em sangue. 18 Os peixes que estão no rio morrerão e o rio cheirará tão mal que os egípcios não poderão beber da sua água”.
19 O SENHOR disse a Moisés:
—Diga a Aarão: “Pegue a sua vara e estenda a sua mão sobre as águas do Egito, sobre os rios, os canais, os lagos e sobre os depósitos de água para que a água se torne em sangue. Em vez de água, haverá sangue em todo o Egito, até nas vasilhas de madeira e de pedra”.
20 Então Moisés e Aarão fizeram o que o SENHOR lhes ordenou. Aarão levantou a sua vara e bateu na água do Nilo, diante do faraó e dos seus ministros. Toda a água do rio se tornou sangue 21 e os peixes morreram. O rio cheirava mal e nenhum egípcio podia beber da água do rio. Em todo o Egito a água se transformou em sangue.
22 Mas os magos do Egito também fizeram o mesmo com as suas magias secretas. E, tal como o SENHOR tinha dito, o faraó continuou com o coração endurecido e recusou-se a fazer o que eles tinham lhe pedido. 23 O faraó foi para o seu palácio e não pensou mais no assunto.
24 Os egípcios tiveram que cavar poços ao lado do rio a fim de tirar água para beberem, pois não podiam beber da água do rio.
A segunda praga: as rãs
25 Passaram sete dias depois de o SENHOR ter transformado a água do rio em sangue.

Moses Before Pharaoh
7 So the Lord said to Moses: “See, I have made you (A)as God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother shall be (B)your prophet. 2 You (C)shall speak all that I command you. And Aaron your brother shall tell Pharaoh to send the children of Israel out of his land. 3 And (D)I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and (E)multiply My (F)signs and My wonders in the land of Egypt. 4 But (G)Pharaoh will not heed you, so (H)that I may lay My hand on Egypt and bring My [a]armies and My people, the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt (I)by great judgments. 5 And the Egyptians (J)shall know that I am the Lord, when I (K)stretch out My hand on Egypt and (L)bring out the children of Israel from among them.”
6 Then Moses and Aaron (M)did so; just as the Lord commanded them, so they did. 7 And Moses was (N)eighty years old and (O)Aaron eighty-three years old when they spoke to Pharaoh.
Aaron’s Miraculous Rod(P)
8 Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, 9 “When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, (Q)‘Show a miracle for yourselves,’ then you shall say to Aaron, (R)‘Take your rod and cast it before Pharaoh, and let it become a serpent.’ ” 10 So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and they did so, just (S)as the Lord commanded. And Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it (T)became a serpent.
11 But Pharaoh also (U)called the wise men and (V)the [b]sorcerers; so the magicians of Egypt, they also (W)did in like manner with their [c]enchantments. 12 For every man threw down his rod, and they became serpents. But Aaron’s rod swallowed up their rods. 13 And Pharaoh’s heart grew hard, and he did not heed them, as the Lord had said.
The First Plague: Waters Become Blood
14 So the Lord said to Moses: (X)“Pharaoh’s heart is hard; he refuses to let the people go. 15 Go to Pharaoh in the morning, when he goes out to the (Y)water, and you shall stand by the river’s bank to meet him; and (Z)the rod which was turned to a serpent you shall take in your hand. 16 And you shall say to him, (AA)‘The Lord God of the Hebrews has sent me to you, saying, “Let My people go, (AB)that they may [d]serve Me in the wilderness”; but indeed, until now you would not hear! 17 Thus says the Lord: “By this (AC)you shall know that I am the Lord. Behold, I will strike the waters which are in the river with the rod that is in my hand, and (AD)they shall be turned (AE)to blood. 18 And the fish that are in the river shall die, the river shall stink, and the Egyptians will (AF)loathe[e] to drink the water of the river.” ’ ”
19 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Take your rod and (AG)stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their streams, over their rivers, over their ponds, and over all their pools of water, that they may become blood. And there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in buckets of wood and pitchers of stone.’ ” 20 And Moses and Aaron did so, just as the Lord commanded. So he (AH)lifted up the rod and struck the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants. And all the (AI)waters that were in the river were turned to blood. 21 The fish that were in the river died, the river stank, and the Egyptians (AJ)could not drink the water of the river. So there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt.
22 (AK)Then the magicians of Egypt did (AL)so with their [f]enchantments; and Pharaoh’s heart grew hard, and he did not heed them, (AM)as the Lord had said. 23 And Pharaoh turned and went into his house. Neither was his heart moved by this. 24 So all the Egyptians dug all around the river for water to drink, because they could not drink the water of the river. 25 And seven days passed after the Lord had struck the river.
