Yahweh Reviews Plans for Bringing the Israelites out of Egypt
7 And Yahweh said to Moses, “See, I have made you as a god to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother will be your prophet. 2 You will speak all that I will command you, and Aaron your brother will speak to Pharaoh, and he will release the Israelites[a] from his land. 3 And I myself will harden the heart of Pharaoh, and I will make my signs and my wonders numerous in the land of Egypt. 4 And Pharaoh will not listen to you, and I will put my hand into Egypt and bring out my divisions, my people, the Israelites,[b] from the land of Egypt with great punishments. 5 And the Egyptians will know that I am Yahweh when I stretch out my hand over Egypt and bring the Israelites[c] out from their midst.”
6 And Moses and Aaron did it; as Yahweh commanded them, so they did. 7 (And Moses was eighty years old,[d] and Aaron was eighty-three years old[e] when they spoke to Pharaoh.)
Provision of a Wonder: Aaron’s Staff Becomes a Snake
8 And Yahweh said to Moses and to Aaron, saying, 9 “When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, ‘Do a wonder for yourselves,’ you will say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and throw it before Pharaoh, and it will become a snake.’” 10 And Moses and Aaron came to Pharaoh, and they did so, as Yahweh had commanded. And Aaron threw his staff before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a snake.
11 And Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers, and they also, the magicians of Egypt, did likewise with their secret arts. 12 Each threw down his staff, and they became snakes, and Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs. 13 And Pharaoh’s heart was hard, and he did not listen to them, as Yahweh had said.
Plague One: Blood
14 And Yahweh said to Moses, “Pharaoh’s heart is insensitive;[f] he refuses to release the people. 15 Go to Pharaoh in the morning. Look, he is going out to the water, and you must wait to meet him on the bank of the Nile, and you must take in your hand the staff that was changed into a snake. 16 And you must say to him, ‘Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, has sent me to you, saying, “Release my people that they may serve me in the desert, and, look, you have not listened until now.” 17 Thus says Yahweh, “By this you will know that I am Yahweh. Look, I am about to strike with the staff that is in my hand the water that is in the Nile, and it will be changed to blood. 18 And the fish that are in the Nile will die, and the Nile will stink, and the Egyptians will be unable to drink water from the Nile.”’”
19 And Yahweh said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and stretch your hand out over the waters of Egypt and over their rivers, over their canals, and over their pools and over all of their reservoirs of water, so that they become blood,’ and blood will be in all the land of Egypt and in vessels of wood and of stone.”
20 And Moses and Aaron did so, as Yahweh had commanded, and he raised the staff and struck the water that was in the Nile before the eyes of Pharaoh and before the eyes of his servants, and all of the water that was in the Nile was changed to blood. 21 And the fish that were in the Nile died, and the Nile stank, and the Egyptians were not able to drink water from the Nile, and the blood was in all the land of Egypt.
22 And the magicians of Egypt did likewise with their secret arts, and Pharaoh’s heart was hard, and he did not listen to them, as Yahweh had spoken. 23 And Pharaoh turned and went to his house, and he did not take also this to heart.[g] 24 And all of the Egyptians dug around the Nile for water to drink, because they were unable to drink from the water of the Nile.
25 And seven days passed after Yahweh struck the Nile.

7 And the Lord said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet.
2 Thou shalt speak all that I command thee: and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh, that he send the children of Israel out of his land.
3 And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt.
4 But Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments.
5 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I stretch forth mine hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them.
6 And Moses and Aaron did as the Lord commanded them, so did they.
7 And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh.
8 And the Lord spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,
9 When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent.
10 And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the Lord had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent.
11 Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers: now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments.
12 For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods.
13 And he hardened Pharaoh's heart, that he hearkened not unto them; as the Lord had said.
14 And the Lord said unto Moses, Pharaoh's heart is hardened, he refuseth to let the people go.
15 Get thee unto Pharaoh in the morning; lo, he goeth out unto the water; and thou shalt stand by the river's brink against he come; and the rod which was turned to a serpent shalt thou take in thine hand.
16 And thou shalt say unto him, The Lord God of the Hebrews hath sent me unto thee, saying, Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness: and, behold, hitherto thou wouldest not hear.
17 Thus saith the Lord, In this thou shalt know that I am the Lord: behold, I will smite with the rod that is in mine hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood.
18 And the fish that is in the river shall die, and the river shall stink; and the Egyptians shall lothe to drink of the water of the river.
19 And the Lord spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and stretch out thine hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their streams, upon their rivers, and upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that they may become blood; and that there may be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone.
20 And Moses and Aaron did so, as the Lord commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.
21 And the fish that was in the river died; and the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink of the water of the river; and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt.
22 And the magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments: and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, neither did he hearken unto them; as the Lord had said.
23 And Pharaoh turned and went into his house, neither did he set his heart to this also.
24 And all the Egyptians digged round about the river for water to drink; for they could not drink of the water of the river.
25 And seven days were fulfilled, after that the Lord had smitten the river.

Moses and Aaron Before Pharaoh
7 And the Lord said to Moses, “See, I have made you like (A)God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron shall be your (B)prophet. 2 (C)You shall speak all that I command you, and your brother Aaron shall tell Pharaoh to let the people of Israel go out of his land. 3 But (D)I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and though I (E)multiply my signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, 4 Pharaoh will not listen to you. Then I will lay my hand on Egypt and bring my hosts, my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great acts of judgment. 5 The Egyptians (F)shall know that I am the Lord, when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring out the people of Israel from among them.” 6 Moses and Aaron did so; they did just as the Lord commanded them. 7 Now Moses was (G)eighty years old, and Aaron eighty-three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh.
8 Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, 9 “When Pharaoh says to you, (H)‘Prove yourselves by working a miracle,’ then you shall say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and cast it down before Pharaoh, that it may become a serpent.’” 10 So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did just as the Lord commanded. Aaron cast down his staff before Pharaoh and his servants, and it became a serpent. 11 Then Pharaoh summoned the wise men and the sorcerers, and they, the (I)magicians of Egypt, also (J)did the same by their secret arts. 12 For each man cast down his staff, and they became serpents. But Aaron's staff swallowed up their staffs. 13 Still (K)Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he would not listen to them, (L)as the Lord had said.
The First Plague: Water Turned to Blood
14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh's heart is hardened; he refuses to let the people go. 15 (M)Go to Pharaoh in the morning, as he is going out to the water, and stand on the bank of the Nile to meet him. Take in your hand (N)the staff that turned into a (O)serpent. 16 And you shall say to him, ‘The (P)Lord, the God of the Hebrews, sent me to you, saying, “Let my people go, (Q)that they may serve me in the wilderness.” But so far, you have not obeyed. 17 Thus says the Lord, “By this (R)you shall know that I am the Lord: behold, with the staff that is in my hand I will strike the water that is in the Nile, and (S)it shall turn into blood. 18 The fish in the Nile shall die, and the Nile will stink, and the Egyptians will (T)grow weary of drinking water from the Nile.”’” 19 And the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and (U)stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, their canals, and their ponds, and all their pools of water, so that they may become blood, and there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, even in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone.’”
20 Moses and Aaron did as the Lord commanded. In the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants he (V)lifted up the staff and struck the water in the Nile, and all the (W)water in the Nile turned into blood. 21 And the fish in the Nile died, and the Nile stank, so that the Egyptians (X)could not drink water from the Nile. There was blood throughout all the land of Egypt. 22 But (Y)the magicians of Egypt did the same by their secret arts. So (Z)Pharaoh's heart remained hardened, and he would not listen to them, as (AA)the Lord had said. 23 Pharaoh turned and went into his house, and he did not take even this to heart. 24 And all the Egyptians dug along the Nile for water to drink, for they could not drink the water of the Nile.
25 Seven full days passed after the Lord had struck the Nile.

7 Und der Herr sprach zu Mose: Siehe, ich habe dich dem Pharao zum Gott[a] gesetzt, und dein Bruder Aaron soll dein Prophet[b] sein.
2 Du sollst alles reden, was ich dir gebieten werde, und dein Bruder Aaron soll es dem Pharao sagen, dass er die Kinder Israels aus seinem Land ziehen lassen soll.
3 Aber ich will das Herz des Pharao verhärten, damit ich meine Zeichen und Wunder im Land Ägypten zahlreich werden lasse.
4 Und der Pharao wird nicht auf euch hören, sodass ich meine Hand an Ägypten legen und mein Heer, mein Volk, die Kinder Israels, durch große Gerichte aus dem Land Ägypten führen werde.
5 Und die Ägypter sollen erfahren, dass ich der Herr bin, wenn ich meine Hand über Ägypten ausstrecke und die Kinder Israels herausführe aus ihrer Mitte.
6 Und Mose und Aaron handelten genau so; wie ihnen der Herr geboten hatte, genau so handelten sie.
7 Und Mose war 80 Jahre alt und Aaron 83 Jahre alt, als sie zu dem Pharao redeten.
8 Und der Herr redete zu Mose und Aaron und sprach:
9 Wenn der Pharao zu euch sagen wird: Tut ein Zeichen, um euch auszuweisen!, so sollst du zu Aaron sagen: Nimm deinen Stab und wirf ihn vor den Pharao hin! — dann wird er zur Schlange werden.
10 Da gingen Mose und Aaron zum Pharao und handelten genau so, wie der Herr es ihnen geboten hatte. Und Aaron warf seinen Stab vor den Pharao und vor seine Knechte hin, und er wurde zur Schlange.
11 Da rief der Pharao die Weisen und Zauberkundigen. Und auch die ägyptischen Zauberer taten dasselbe mit ihren Zauberkünsten[c].
12 Und jeder warf seinen Stab hin, und es wurden Schlangen daraus; aber Aarons Stab verschlang ihre Stäbe.
13 Doch das Herz des Pharao verstockte sich, und er hörte nicht auf sie, so wie der Herr es gesagt hatte.
Die erste Plage: Wasser wird zu Blut
14 Und der Herr sprach zu Mose: Das Herz des Pharao ist verstockt; er weigert sich, das Volk ziehen zu lassen.
15 Geh am Morgen hin zum Pharao; siehe, er wird hinaus ans Wasser gehen; tritt ihm entgegen am Ufer des Nils und nimm den Stab in deine Hand, der zur Schlange geworden ist,
16 und sprich zu ihm: Der Herr, der Gott der Hebräer, hat mich zu dir gesandt, um dir zu sagen: Lass mein Volk ziehen, damit es mir in der Wüste dient! Aber siehe, du hast bisher nicht hören wollen.
17 Darum, so spricht der Herr: Daran sollst du erkennen, dass ich der Herr bin: Siehe, ich will mit dem Stab, den ich in meiner Hand habe, das Wasser schlagen, das im Nil ist, und es soll in Blut verwandelt werden,
18 sodass die Fische im Nil sterben müssen und der Nil stinken wird; und es wird die Ägypter ekeln, das Wasser aus dem Nil zu trinken.
19 Und der Herr sprach zu Mose: Sage zu Aaron: Nimm deinen Stab und strecke deine Hand aus über die Wasser in Ägypten, über seine Nilarme, über seine Kanäle und über seine Sümpfe und über alle Wasserbecken[d], dass sie zu Blut werden und dass im ganzen Land Ägypten Blut sei, selbst in den hölzernen und steinernen [Gefäßen].
20 Und Mose und Aaron machten es so, wie es ihnen der Herr geboten hatte. Und er erhob den Stab und schlug vor dem Pharao und seinen Knechten das Wasser, das im Nil war; da wurde alles Wasser im Nil in Blut verwandelt.
21 Und die Fische im Nil starben, und der Nil wurde stinkend, sodass die Ägypter das Nilwasser nicht trinken konnten; und das Blut war im ganzen Land Ägypten.
22 Aber die ägyptischen Zauberer taten dasselbe mit ihren Zauberkünsten. Und so verstockte sich das Herz des Pharao, und er hörte nicht auf sie, so wie der Herr es gesagt hatte.
23 Und der Pharao wandte sich um und ging heim und nahm sich auch das nicht zu Herzen.
24 Aber alle Ägypter gruben um den Nil herum nach Trinkwasser; denn das Nilwasser konnten sie nicht trinken.
25 Und das währte sieben Tage lang, nachdem der Herr den Nil geschlagen hatte.
Die zweite Plage: Frösche
26 Und der Herr sprach zu Mose: Geh hinein zum Pharao und sprich zu ihm: So spricht der Herr: Lass mein Volk ziehen, damit es mir dient!
27 Wenn du dich aber weigerst, es ziehen zu lassen, siehe, so will ich dein ganzes Gebiet mit Fröschen plagen,
28 und der Nil wird von Fröschen wimmeln; die sollen heraufkommen in dein Haus und in deine Schlafkammer und auf dein Bett; auch in die Häuser deiner Knechte, unter dein Volk, in deine Backöfen und in deine Backtröge;
29 und die Frösche sollen auf dich und auf dein Volk und auf alle deine Knechte kriechen.
