⁷ And I will take you as my people,^[a] and I will be your God,^[b] and you will know that I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out from under the forced labor^[c] of Egypt.

⁴ “Hear, Israel, Yahweh our God, Yahweh is unique.^{[a] 5} And you shall love Yahweh your God with all of your heart^[b] and with all of your soul^[c] and with all of your might. ⁶ And these words that I am commanding you today^[d] shall be on^[e] your heart.^{[f] 7} And you shall recite them to your children, and you shall talk about them at the time of your living in your house and at the time of your going on the road and at the time of your lying down and at the time of your rising up. ⁸ And you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as an emblem between your eyes. ⁹ And you shall write them on the doorframe of your house and on your gates.

¹⁶ In the same way let your light shine before people, so that they can see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Jesus’ Mother and Brothers

⁴⁶ And^[a] while^[b] he was still speaking to the crowds, behold, his mother and brothers were standing there outside, desiring to speak to him. ⁴⁷ And someone told him, “Behold, your mother and your brothers are standing there outside desiring to speak to you.” ⁴⁸ But he answered and^[c] said to the one who told him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” ⁴⁹ And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, “Behold my mother and my brothers! ⁵⁰ For whoever does the will of my Father who is in heaven, he is my brother and sister and mother.”

²⁹ And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife^[a] or children or fields on account of my name will receive a hundred times as much, and will inherit eternal life.

¹² But as many as received him—to those who believe in his name—he gave to them authority to become children of God, ¹³ who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of a husband, but of God.

³⁴ “A new commandment I give to you: that you love one another—just as I have loved you, that you also love one another. ³⁵ By this everyone will know that you are my disciples—if you have love for one another.”

²⁶ And likewise also, the Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how to pray as one ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with unexpressed groanings. ²⁷ And the one who searches our hearts knows what the mindset of the Spirit is, because he intercedes on behalf of the saints according to the will of God. ²⁸ And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose, ²⁹ because those whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he should be the firstborn among many brothers. ³⁰ And those whom he predestined, these he also called, and those whom he called, these he also justified, and those whom he justified, these he also glorified.

¹⁶ Do you not know that you are God’s temple and the Spirit of God dwells in you? ¹⁷ If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy this one. For God’s temple is holy, which you are.
