Exodus 36
English Standard Version
36 “Bezalel and Oholiab and (A)every craftsman in whom the Lord has put skill and intelligence to know how to do any work in the construction of the sanctuary shall work in accordance with all that the Lord has commanded.”
2 And Moses called Bezalel and Oholiab and every craftsman in whose mind the Lord had put skill, everyone (B)whose heart stirred him up to come to do the work. 3 And they received from Moses all the (C)contribution that the people of Israel had brought for doing the work on the sanctuary. They still kept bringing him (D)freewill offerings every morning, 4 so that all the craftsmen who were doing every sort of task on the sanctuary came, each from the task that he was doing, 5 and said to Moses, (E)“The people bring much more than enough for doing the work that the Lord has commanded us to do.” 6 So Moses gave command, and word was proclaimed throughout the camp, “Let no man or woman do anything more for the (F)contribution for the sanctuary.” So the people were restrained from bringing, 7 for the material they had was sufficient to do all the work, and more.
8 (G)And all the craftsmen among the workmen made the tabernacle with ten curtains. They were made of fine twined linen and blue and purple and scarlet yarns, with cherubim skillfully worked. 9 The length of each curtain was twenty-eight cubits,[a] and the breadth of each curtain four cubits. All the curtains were the same size.
10 He[b] coupled five curtains to one another, and the other five curtains he coupled to one another. 11 He made loops of blue on the edge of the outermost curtain of the first set. Likewise he made them on the edge of the outermost curtain of the second set. 12 He made fifty loops on the one curtain, and he made fifty loops on the edge of the curtain that was in the second set. The loops were opposite one another. 13 And he made fifty clasps of gold, and coupled the curtains one to the other with clasps. So the tabernacle was a single whole.
14 He also made curtains of goats' hair for a tent over the tabernacle. He made eleven curtains. 15 The length of each curtain was thirty cubits, and the breadth of each curtain four cubits. The eleven curtains were the same size. 16 He coupled five curtains by themselves, and six curtains by themselves. 17 And he made fifty loops on the edge of the outermost curtain of the one set, and fifty loops on the edge of the other connecting curtain. 18 And he made fifty clasps of bronze to couple the tent together that it might be a single whole. 19 And he made for the tent a covering of tanned rams' skins and goatskins.
20 (H)Then he made the upright frames for the tabernacle of (I)acacia wood. 21 Ten cubits was the length of a frame, and a cubit and a half the breadth of each frame. 22 Each frame had two tenons for fitting together. He did this for all the frames of the tabernacle. 23 The frames for the tabernacle he made thus: twenty frames for the south side. 24 And he made forty bases of silver under the twenty frames, two bases under one frame for its two tenons, and two bases under the next frame for its two tenons. 25 For the second side of the tabernacle, on the north side, he made twenty frames 26 and their forty bases of silver, two bases under one frame and two bases under the next frame. 27 For the rear of the tabernacle westward he made six frames. 28 He made two frames for corners of the tabernacle in the rear. 29 And they were separate beneath but joined at the top, at the first ring. He made two of them this way for the two corners. 30 There were eight frames with their bases of silver: sixteen bases, under every frame two bases.
31 He made bars of acacia wood, five for the frames of the one side of the tabernacle, 32 and five bars for the frames of the other side of the tabernacle, and five bars for the frames of the tabernacle at the rear westward. 33 And he made the middle bar to run from end to end halfway up the frames. 34 And he overlaid the frames with gold, and made their rings of gold for holders for the bars, and overlaid the bars with gold.
35 (J)He made the veil of blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen; with cherubim skillfully worked into it he made it. 36 And for it he made four pillars of acacia and overlaid them with gold. Their hooks were of gold, and he cast for them four bases of silver. 37 He also made a screen for the entrance of the tent, of blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen, embroidered with needlework, 38 and its five pillars with their hooks. He overlaid their capitals, and their fillets were of gold, but their five bases were of bronze.

The Tabernacle Underwritten
36 “Now Bezalel, Oholiab, and every [a]skillful person in whom the Lord has put [b]skill and understanding to know how to perform all the work [c]in the construction of the sanctuary, shall perform in accordance with everything that the Lord has commanded.”
2 Then Moses called Bezalel, Oholiab, and every [d]skillful person in [e]whom the Lord had put [f]skill, (A)everyone whose heart stirred him, to come to the work to perform it. 3 They received from Moses every [g]contribution which the sons of Israel had brought to perform [h]the work [i]in the construction of the sanctuary. And they still continued bringing to him [j]voluntary offerings every morning. 4 And all the [k]skillful people who were performing all the work of the sanctuary came, each from [l]the work which they were performing, 5 and they said to [m]Moses, “(B)The people are bringing much more than enough for the [n]construction work which the Lord commanded us to [o]perform.” 6 So Moses issued a command, and circulated a [p]proclamation throughout the camp, saying, “No man or woman is to perform work any longer for the [q]contributions of the sanctuary.” So the people were restrained from bringing any more. 7 (C)For the [r]material they had was sufficient and more than enough for all the work, to perform it.
Construction Begins
8 (D)All the [s]skillful people among those who were performing the work made the [t]tabernacle with ten curtains; of fine twisted linen and [u]violet, purple, and scarlet material, with cherubim, the work of a skilled embroiderer, [v]Bezalel made them. 9 The length of each curtain was [w]twenty-eight cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits; all the curtains had [x]the same measurements. 10 He [y]joined five curtains to one another, and the other five curtains he [z]joined to one another. 11 And he made loops of violet on the edge of the [aa]outermost curtain in the first [ab]set; he did likewise on the edge of the curtain that was [ac]outermost in the second [ad]set. 12 He made (E)fifty loops in the one curtain, and he made fifty loops on the [ae]edge of the curtain that was in the second [af]set; the loops were opposite each other. 13 He also made (F)fifty clasps of gold, and [ag]joined the curtains to one another with the clasps, so that the tabernacle was [ah]a unit.
14 Then (G)he made curtains of goats’ hair for a tent over the tabernacle; he [ai]made eleven curtains in all. 15 The length of each curtain was thirty cubits, and four cubits was the width of each curtain; the eleven curtains had [aj]the same measurements. 16 He [ak]joined five curtains by themselves, and the other six curtains by themselves. 17 Moreover, he made fifty loops on the edge of the curtain that was outermost in the first [al]set, and he made fifty loops on the edge of the curtain that was outermost in the second [am]set. 18 He also made fifty clasps of [an]bronze to [ao]join the tent together so that it would be [ap]a unit. 19 And he made a covering for the tent of rams’ skins [aq]dyed red, and a covering of [ar]fine leather above.
20 (H)Then he made the boards for the tabernacle of acacia wood, standing upright. 21 Ten cubits was the length of [as]each board, and one and a half cubits the width of each board. 22 There were two tenons for each board, [at]fitted to one another; he did this to all the boards of the tabernacle. 23 So he made the boards for the tabernacle: twenty boards [au]for the south side; 24 and he made forty bases of silver under the twenty boards; two bases under one board for its two tenons, and two bases under another board for its two tenons. 25 Then for the second side of the tabernacle, on the north side, he made twenty boards, 26 and their forty bases of silver; two bases under one board, and two bases under another board. 27 And for the [av]back of the tabernacle, to the west, he made six boards. 28 He made two boards for the corners of the [aw]tabernacle at the [ax]back. 29 They were double beneath, and together they were complete to its [ay]top, [az]to the first ring; he did this with both of them for the two corners. 30 There were eight boards with their bases of silver, sixteen bases, two bases under every board.
31 Then he made (I)bars of acacia wood, five for the boards of one side of the tabernacle, 32 and five bars for the boards of the [ba]other side of the tabernacle, and five bars for the boards of the tabernacle for the [bb]back side to the west. 33 And he made the middle bar to pass through in the [bc]center of the boards from end to end. 34 Then he overlaid the boards with gold, and made their rings of gold as holders for the bars, and overlaid the bars with gold.
35 (J)Moreover, he made the veil of violet, purple, and scarlet material, and fine twisted linen; he made it with cherubim, the work of a skilled embroiderer. 36 And he made four pillars of acacia for it, and overlaid them with gold, with their hooks of gold; and he cast four bases of silver for them. 37 He also made a (K)curtain for the doorway of the tent, of violet, purple, and scarlet material, and fine twisted linen, the work of a [bd]weaver; 38 and he made its (L)five pillars with their hooks, and he overlaid their tops and their [be]bands with gold; but their five bases were of [bf]bronze.

Exodus 36
New King James Version
Building the Tabernacle
36 “And Bezalel and Aholiab, and every (A)gifted artisan in whom the Lord has put wisdom and understanding, to know how to do all manner of work for the service of the (B)sanctuary,[a] shall do according to all that the Lord has commanded.”
The People Give More than Enough
2 Then Moses called Bezalel and Aholiab, and every gifted artisan in whose heart the Lord had put wisdom, everyone (C)whose heart [b]was stirred, to come and do the work. 3 And they received from Moses all the (D)offering which the children of Israel (E)had brought for the work of the service of making the sanctuary. So they continued bringing to him freewill offerings every morning. 4 Then all the craftsmen who were doing all the work of the sanctuary came, each from the work he was doing, 5 and they spoke to Moses, saying, (F)“The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work which the Lord commanded us to do.”
6 So Moses gave a commandment, and they caused it to be proclaimed throughout the camp, saying, “Let neither man nor woman do any more work for the offering of the sanctuary.” And the people were restrained from bringing, 7 for the material they had was sufficient for all the work to be done—indeed too (G)much.
Building the Tabernacle(H)
8 (I)Then all the gifted artisans among them who worked on the tabernacle made ten curtains woven of fine linen, and of blue, purple, and scarlet thread; with artistic designs of cherubim they made them. 9 The length of each curtain was twenty-eight cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits; the curtains were all the same size. 10 And he coupled five curtains to one another, and the other five curtains he coupled to one another. 11 He made loops of blue yarn on the edge of the curtain on the selvedge of one set; likewise he did on the outer edge of the other curtain of the second set. 12 (J)Fifty loops he made on one curtain, and fifty loops he made on the edge of the curtain on the end of the second set; the loops held one curtain to another. 13 And he made fifty clasps of gold, and coupled the curtains to one another with the clasps, that it might be one tabernacle.
14 (K)He made curtains of goats’ hair for the tent over the tabernacle; he made eleven curtains. 15 The length of each curtain was thirty cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits; the eleven curtains were the same size. 16 He coupled five curtains by themselves and six curtains by themselves. 17 And he made fifty loops on the edge of the curtain that is outermost in one set, and fifty loops he made on the edge of the curtain of the second set. 18 He also made fifty bronze clasps to couple the tent together, that it might be one. 19 (L)Then he made a covering for the tent of ram skins dyed red, and a covering of [c]badger skins above that.
20 For the tabernacle (M)he made boards of acacia wood, standing upright. 21 The length of each board was ten cubits, and the width of each board a cubit and a half. 22 Each board had two [d]tenons (N)for binding one to another. Thus he made for all the boards of the tabernacle. 23 And he made boards for the tabernacle, twenty boards for the south side. 24 Forty sockets of silver he made to go under the twenty boards: two sockets under each of the boards for its two tenons. 25 And for the other side of the tabernacle, the north side, he made twenty boards 26 and their forty sockets of silver: two sockets under each of the boards. 27 For the west side of the tabernacle he made six boards. 28 He also made two boards for the two back corners of the tabernacle. 29 And they were coupled at the bottom and [e]coupled together at the top by one ring. Thus he made both of them for the two corners. 30 So there were eight boards and their sockets—sixteen sockets of silver—two sockets under each of the boards.
31 And he made (O)bars of acacia wood: five for the boards on one side of the tabernacle, 32 five bars for the boards on the other side of the tabernacle, and five bars for the boards of the tabernacle on the far side westward. 33 And he made the middle bar to pass through the boards from one end to the other. 34 He overlaid the boards with gold, made their rings of gold to be holders for the bars, and overlaid the bars with gold.
35 And he made (P)a veil of blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine woven linen; it was worked with an artistic design of cherubim. 36 He made for it four pillars of acacia wood, and overlaid them with gold, with their hooks of gold; and he cast four sockets of silver for them.
37 He also made a (Q)screen for the tabernacle door, of blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine woven linen, made by a [f]weaver, 38 and its five pillars with their hooks. And he overlaid their capitals and their rings with gold, but their five sockets were bronze.

出埃及 36
Exodus 36
Evangelical Heritage Version
36 Moses continued,[a] “Bezalel and Oholiab shall work with every skilled man, in whom the Lord has put wisdom and understanding, who knows how to carry out all the work for completing everything for the sanctuary, according to everything that the Lord has commanded.”
2 So Moses called Bezalel and Oholiab, and every skilled man into whose heart the Lord had put the needed wisdom and skill,[b] that is, everyone whose heart stirred him up to come and join in the work. 3 They received from Moses all the materials which the people of Israel had brought as a special offering for the task of completing everything for the sanctuary, and the people continued to bring voluntary offerings to Moses every morning. 4 All the skilled craftsmen who were performing all the work for the sanctuary came from the specific work which they were doing. 5 Each of them told Moses, “The people have brought more than enough to complete the work which the Lord commanded.”
6 So Moses gave a command that was passed throughout the camp: “No man or woman should provide anything else for the offering for the sanctuary.” So the people were restrained from bringing more, 7 because the material they had brought was sufficient to complete all the work, with some left over.
The Coverings for the Dwelling
8 All the skilled craftsmen among the workers made the dwelling[c] out of ten curtains made from finely woven linen[d] and with blue, purple, and scarlet material. They[e] decorated the curtains with cherubim, which were the work of a skillful craftsman. 9 The length of each panel of the curtain was forty-two feet, and the width of each panel was six feet. All the panels were the same size. 10 One set of five curtains was connected together into one panel, and the other set of five curtains was connected together. 11 They attached blue loops to the edge of the last panel in the first set of curtains. In the same way they attached loops to the edge of the last panel of the second set. 12 They made fifty loops for the edge of the first set of curtains and fifty loops for the edge of the second set of curtains. The two sets of loops lined up opposite one another. 13 They made fifty gold clasps, and they connected one set of curtains to the other with the clasps, so that the tent became one connected piece.
14 They made a curtain from panels of goats’ hair to serve as a tent over the dwelling.[f] They made eleven panels. 15 The length of each panel was forty-five feet, and the width of each panel was six feet. The eleven panels were the same size. 16 They connected five panels into one unit, and six panels into another unit. 17 They made fifty loops for the edge of the last curtain of one set, and fifty loops for the edge of the last curtain in the second set. 18 They made fifty bronze clasps and put the clasps into the loops to join the two pieces of the tent together, so that it was one unit.
19 They made another cover for the tent from rams’ skins dyed red and another cover from hides of sea cows to go above that one.
The Framework
20 They made upright boards[g] of acacia wood for the Dwelling. 21 Each board was fifteen feet tall, and the width of each board was twenty-seven inches. 22 There were two pegs on each board to join them to one another.[h] This is the way they made all the boards for the Dwelling.
23 They made twenty boards for the south side of the Dwelling. 24 They made forty socket bases of silver to go under the twenty boards—two sockets under the first board for its two pegs, and two sockets under the next board for its two pegs.
25 For the second side of the Dwelling, the north side, they made twenty boards, 26 with forty socket bases of silver—two sockets under the first board, and two sockets under the next board.
27 For the far side of the Dwelling, the west side, they made six boards. 28 They made two boards for each of the back corners of the Dwelling. 29 These two corner boards were double on the bottom, but they both were joined at the top by one ring.[i] Both sets were like this. 30 Altogether there were eight boards with silver socket bases. There were sixteen socket bases—two socket bases under each board.
The Crossbars
31 They made crossbars of acacia wood—five for the boards on one side of the Dwelling, 32 five crossbars for the boards on the other side of the Dwelling, and five crossbars for the boards on the back of the Dwelling on the west. 33 The middle bar, placed halfway up the boards, passed through from one end to the other end. 34 They overlaid the boards with gold and made gold rings to attach to them as a housing for the crossbars, and they overlaid the crossbars with gold.
The Partitions for the Sanctuary
35 They made a veil of blue, purple, and scarlet material and fine woven linen, decorated with cherubim, the work of a skillful craftsman. 36 They made four posts of acacia wood overlaid with gold. The posts stood on four socket bases of silver. The hooks were made of gold.
37 They made a screen for the entry to the tent out of blue, purple, and scarlet material and fine woven linen, the work of an embroiderer. 38 They made five posts of acacia to support the screen and overlaid them with gold. Their hooks were gold, and they cast five bronze socket bases for them.

- Exodus 36:1 The words Moses continued are added to the text to initiate the new chapter.
- Exodus 36:2 In this context wisdom includes practical skill.
- Exodus 36:8 Here dwelling refers to the inmost of the four layers that covered the sanctuary. Elsewhere, the Dwelling refers to the whole sanctuary.
- Exodus 36:8 Also translated twisted linen. It may refer to twisting different materials into one thread or to weaving them together.
- Exodus 36:8 Throughout the account of the construction of the Dwelling many of the Hebrew verbs and pronouns are singular, referring to Bezalel as the leader of the workers. Others are plural referring to those who worked under his direction. The Hebrew fluctuates between singular and plural. In this section the translation uses plural pronouns and verbs, because the work was done through Bezalel’s assistants, as verse 8 specifically says.
- Exodus 36:14 Here dwelling refers to the inner covering of the sanctuary. Elsewhere, the Dwelling refers to the whole sanctuary. Here tent refers to the second of the four coverings of the sanctuary. Elsewhere, Tent refers to the whole sanctuary.
- Exodus 36:20 Or frames
- Exodus 36:22 These pegs may be on the side of each board to connect it to the board next to it. Verse 24 describes two pegs on the bottom of each board to anchor the boards to the socket bases below the boards.
- Exodus 36:29 There is much disagreement about what it means that the boards are double at the bottom. Some think it means they are separate; some think it means they are joined together. The translation above suggests that two planks were joined together in one L-shaped cornerpiece.
