The Craftsmen

30 Moses said to the people of Israel, “See, the Lord has called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, from the tribe of Judah. 31 He has filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and skill in all kinds of crafts. 32 He has the ability to create designs and to work in gold, silver, and bronze. 33 He can cut and engrave precious stones for mounting and can carve wood. He works skillfully in all kinds of crafts. 34 The Lord has also put into his heart the ability to teach others—both he and Oholiab son of Ahisamak, from the tribe of Dan. 35 He has filled them with skill to work in all kinds of crafts: designing, embroidering in blue, purple, and scarlet, working with fine linen, and weaving—all kinds of workmanship and designing.”

36 Moses continued,[a] “Bezalel and Oholiab shall work with every skilled man, in whom the Lord has put wisdom and understanding, who knows how to carry out all the work for completing everything for the sanctuary, according to everything that the Lord has commanded.”

So Moses called Bezalel and Oholiab, and every skilled man into whose heart the Lord had put the needed wisdom and skill,[b] that is, everyone whose heart stirred him up to come and join in the work. They received from Moses all the materials which the people of Israel had brought as a special offering for the task of completing everything for the sanctuary, and the people continued to bring voluntary offerings to Moses every morning. All the skilled craftsmen who were performing all the work for the sanctuary came from the specific work which they were doing. Each of them told Moses, “The people have brought more than enough to complete the work which the Lord commanded.”

So Moses gave a command that was passed throughout the camp: “No man or woman should provide anything else for the offering for the sanctuary.” So the people were restrained from bringing more, because the material they had brought was sufficient to complete all the work, with some left over.

30 And Moses said to the Israelites,[a] “See, Yahweh has called by name[b] Bezalel the son of Uri the son of Hur, from the tribe of Judah. 31 And he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom and with skill[c] and with knowledge and with every kind of craftsmanship, 32 and to devise designs, to work with the gold and with the silver and with the bronze, 33 and in stonecutting for setting and in cutting wood, for doing every kind of design craftsmanship. 34 And he has put it in his heart to teach—he and Oholiab the son of Ahisamach, from the tribe of Dan. 35 He has filled them with skill of heart to do every work of a craftsman and a designer and an embroiderer with the blue and with the purple, with the crimson yarns and with the fine linen and a weaver; they are doers of every kind of craftsmanship and devisers of designs.

36 And Bezalel and Oholiab and everyone who is skilled of heart in whom Yahweh has put wisdom and skill to know and to do all the work for the service of the sanctuary—they will do it, according to all that Yahweh has commanded.”

Making the Tabernacle

And Moses called Bezalel and Oholiab and everyone skilled of heart, in whose heart Yahweh had put skill, all whose heart lifted him to come near to the work in order to do it. And they took from Moses all the contributions[d] that the Israelites[e] had brought for the work of the service for the sanctuary in order to do it, and they still brought to him voluntary offerings every morning.[f] And all the skilled workers who were doing all the work for the sanctuary came, each[g] from his work that they were doing. And they said to Moses, saying, “The people are bringing more[h] than enough for the service of the work that Yahweh has commanded to be done.”[i] And Moses commanded, and they proclaimed the message[j] in the camp, saying, “Let no man or woman again make anything for the sanctuary contribution.” And so the people were restrained from bringing. And the material was enough for doing all the work, and it was left over.
