New Stone Tablets
34 The Lord said to Moses, “Cut two stone tablets like the first ones, and I will write on them the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke.(A) 2 Be prepared by morning. Come up Mount Sinai in the morning and stand before me on the mountaintop. 3 No one may go up with you; in fact, no one should be seen anywhere on the mountain. Even the flocks and herds are not to graze in front of that mountain.”(B)
4 Moses cut two stone tablets like the first ones. He got up early in the morning, and taking the two stone tablets in his hand, he climbed Mount Sinai, just as the Lord had commanded him.
5 The Lord came down in a cloud, stood with him there, and proclaimed his name, “the Lord.” 6 The Lord passed in front of him and proclaimed:
The Lord—the Lord is a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and abounding in faithful love and truth,(C) 7 maintaining faithful love to a thousand generations, forgiving iniquity, rebellion, and sin.(D) But he will not leave the guilty(E) unpunished, bringing the consequences of the fathers’ iniquity on the children and grandchildren to the third and fourth generation.
8 Moses immediately knelt low on the ground and worshiped. 9 Then he said, “My Lord, if I have indeed found favor with you, my Lord, please go with us (even though this is a stiff-necked people), forgive our iniquity and our sin, and accept us as your own possession.”(F)
Covenant Obligations
10 And the Lord responded, “Look, I am making a covenant. In the presence of all your people I will perform wonders that have never been done[a] in the whole earth or in any nation. All the people you live among will see the Lord’s work, for what I am doing with you is awe-inspiring.(G) 11 Observe what I command you today. I am going to drive out before you the Amorites, Canaanites, Hethites, Perizzites, Hivites,[b] and Jebusites. 12 Be careful not to make a treaty with the inhabitants of the land that you are going to enter; otherwise, they will become a snare among you.(H) 13 Instead, you must tear down their altars, smash their sacred pillars, and chop down their Asherah poles.(I) 14 Because the Lord is jealous(J) for his reputation, you are never to bow down to another god.[c] He is a jealous God.
15 “Do not make a treaty with the inhabitants of the land, or else when they prostitute themselves with their gods and sacrifice to their gods, they will invite you, and you will eat their sacrifices.(K) 16 Then you will take some of their daughters as brides for your sons. Their daughters will prostitute themselves with their gods and cause your sons to prostitute themselves with their gods.(L)
17 “Do not make cast images(M) of gods for yourselves.
18 “Observe the Festival of Unleavened Bread. You are to eat unleavened bread for seven days at the appointed time in the month of Abib,[d] as I commanded you, for you came out of Egypt in the month of Abib.(N)
19 “The firstborn(O) male from every womb belongs to me, including all your male[e][f] livestock, the firstborn of cattle or sheep. 20 You may redeem the firstborn of a donkey with a sheep, but if you do not redeem it, break its neck.(P) You must redeem all the firstborn of your sons. No one is to appear before me empty-handed.
21 “You are to labor six days but you must rest(Q) on the seventh day; you must even rest during plowing and harvesting times.
22 “Observe the Festival of Weeks with the firstfruits of the wheat harvest, and the Festival of Ingathering[g] at the turn of the agricultural year. 23 Three times a year(R) all your males are to appear before the Lord God, the God of Israel. 24 For I will drive out nations(S) before you and enlarge your territory.(T) No one will covet your land when you go up three times a year to appear before the Lord your God.
25 “Do not present[h] the blood for my sacrifice with anything leavened. The sacrifice of the Passover Festival must not remain until morning.(U)
26 “Bring the best firstfruits(V) of your land to the house of the Lord your God.
“You must not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.”
27 The Lord also said to Moses, “Write(W) down these words, for I have made a covenant with you and with Israel based on these words.”
28 Moses was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he did not eat food or drink water. He wrote the Ten Commandments,(X) the words of the covenant, on the tablets.
Moses’s Radiant Face
29 As Moses descended from Mount Sinai—with the two tablets of the testimony in his hands as he descended the mountain—he did not realize that the skin of his face shone as a result of his speaking with the Lord.[i](Y) 30 When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, the skin of his face shone!(Z) They were afraid to come near him. 31 But Moses called out to them, so Aaron and all the leaders of the community returned to him, and Moses spoke to them. 32 Afterward all the Israelites came near, and he commanded them to do everything the Lord had told him on Mount Sinai. 33 When Moses had finished speaking with them, he put a veil over his face. 34 But whenever Moses went before the Lord to speak with him, he would remove the veil until he came out. After he came out, he would tell the Israelites what he had been commanded,(AA) 35 and the Israelites would see that Moses’s face[j] was radiant. Then Moses would put the veil over his face again until he went to speak with the Lord.

34 L'Eterno disse a Mosè: «Tagliati due tavole di pietra come le prime; e io scriverò sulle tavole le parole che erano sulle prime tavole che spezzasti.
2 Così sii pronto al mattino e sali al mattino sul monte Sinai, e rimani là vicino a me in vetta al monte.
3 Nessuno salga con te e non si veda alcuno per tutto il monte; né greggi né armenti pascolino nei dintorni di questo monte».
4 Mosè dunque tagliò due tavole di pietra, come le prime; si alzò al mattino presto e salì sul monte Sinai come l'Eterno gli aveva comandato, e prese in mano le due tavole di pietra.
5 Allora l'Eterno discese nella nuvola e si fermò là vicino a lui, e proclamò il nome dell'Eterno.
6 E l'Eterno passò davanti a lui e gridò: «L'Eterno, l'Eterno Dio, misericordioso e pietoso, lento all'ira, ricco in benignità e fedeltà,
7 che usa misericordia a migliaia, che perdona l'iniquità, la trasgressione e il peccato ma non lascia il colpevole impunito, e che visita l'iniquità dei padri sui figli e sui figli dei figli fino alla terza e alla quarta generazione».
8 E Mosè si affrettò a prostrarsi fino a terra, e adorò.
9 Poi disse: «Deh, Signore, se ho trovato grazia ai tuoi occhi, venga il Signore in mezzo a noi, perché questo è un popolo dal collo duro; perdona la nostra iniquità e il nostro peccato, e prendici come tua eredità».
10 L'Eterno rispose: «Ecco, io faccio un patto: Farò davanti a tutto il popolo prodigi, che non sono ma stati fatti su tutta la terra né in alcuna nazione; e tutto il popolo in mezzo al quale ti trovi vedrà l'opera dell'Eterno, perché è tremendo ciò che io sto per fare con te.
11 Osserva ciò che oggi ti comando: Ecco io scaccerò davanti a te gli Amorei, i Cananei, gli Hittei, i Perezei, gli Hivvei e i Gebusei.
12 Guardati dal fare alcuna alleanza con gli abitanti del paese nel quale stai per andare, perché non sia un laccio in mezzo a te;
13 ma demolite i loro altari, frantumate le loro colonne sacre e abbattete le loro immagini,
14 (perché non ti prostrerai ad altro dio, poiché l'Eterno, il cui nome è "il Geloso", è un Dio geloso).
15 Non fare alcuna alleanza con gli abitanti del paese perché, quando essi si prostituiscono ai loro dèi ed offrono sacrifici ai loro dèi, qualcuno di essi ti inviti e tu mangi dei loro sacrifici,
16 e prenda delle loro figlie per i tuoi figli, e le loro figlie si prostituiscano ai loro dèi e inducano i tuoi figli a prostituirsi ai loro dèi.
17 Non ti farai dèi di metallo fuso.
18 Osserverai la festa degli azzimi. Per sette giorni mangerai pane senza lievito come ti ho ordinato nel tempo stabilito nel mese di Abib, poiché nel mese di Abib tu sei uscito dall'Egitto.
19 Chiunque apre il grembo è mio; e mio è ogni primo parto maschio di tutto il tuo bestiame, sia bovino che ovino.
20 Ma riscatterai con un agnello il primo nato dell'asino; se non lo vuoi riscattare, gli romperai il collo. Riscatterai pure ogni primogenito dei tuoi figli. Nessuno comparirà davanti a me a mani vuote.
21 Lavorerai sei giorni; ma il settimo giorno ti riposerai: ti riposerai anche al tempo dell'aratura e della mietitura.
22 Celebrerai la festa delle settimane, e cioè, delle primizie della mietitura del grano e la festa della raccolta alla fine dell'anno.
23 Tre volte all'anno comparirà ogni vostro maschio davanti al Signore, l'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele.
24 Poiché io scaccerò nazioni davanti a te e allargherò i tuoi confini, e nessuno desidererà il tuo paese, quando salirai tre volte all'anno, per comparire davanti all'Eterno, il tuo DIO.
25 Non offrirai con pane lievitato il sangue della vittima immolata a me; il sacrificio della festa di Pasqua non sarà lasciato fino al mattino.
26 Porterai alla casa dell'Eterno, il tuo DIO, le primizie dei primi frutti della tua terra. Non cuocerai il capretto nel latte di sua madre».
27 Poi l'Eterno disse a Mosè: «Scrivi queste parole, perché sul Fondamento di queste parole io ho contratto alleanza con te e con Israele».
28 Così Mosè rimase là con l'Eterno quaranta giorni e quaranta notti; non mangiò pane né bevve acqua. E l'Eterno scrisse sulle tavole le parole del patto, i dieci comandamenti.
29 Or Mosè, quando scese dal monte Sinai (scendendo dal monte Mosè aveva in mano le due tavole della testimonianza), non sapeva che la pelle del suo volto era divenuta raggiante, perché era stato a parlare con l'Eterno.
30 Così, quando Aaronne e tutti i figli d'Israele videro Mosè, ecco che la pelle del suo volto era raggiante ed essi avevano paura di avvicinarsi a lui.
31 Ma Mosè li chiamò ed Aaronne e tutti i capi dell'assemblea ritornarono da lui, e Mosè parlò loro.
32 Dopo di che, tutti i figli d'Israele si avvicinarono, ed egli ordinò loro di fare tutto ciò che l'Eterno gli aveva detto sul monte Sinai.
33 Come Mosè ebbe finito di parlare con loro, mise un velo sul suo volto.
34 Quando però Mosè entrava davanti all'Eterno per parlare con lui, si toglieva il velo finché usciva fuori; uscendo fuori, diceva ai figli d'Israele ciò che gli era stato comandato.
35 I figli d'Israele, guardando la faccia di Mosè, vedevano che la pelle di Mosè era raggiante; poi Mosè rimetteva il velo sul suo volto, fino a quando entrava a parlare con l'Eterno.

10 耶和華說：“看哪，我要立約，我要在你全體的人民面前作奇妙的事，是在全地萬國中沒有行過的。在你四周的萬民都必看見耶和華的作為，因為我向你所行的是可畏懼的事。 11 我今天吩咐你的，你務要遵守。看哪，我要把亞摩利人、迦南人、赫人、比利洗人、希未人、耶布斯人，從你面前趕逐出去。 12 你要小心，不可與你所去的那地的居民立約，恐怕這事在你中間成為陷阱。 13 他們的祭壇你們卻要拆毀，他們的柱像你們要打碎，他們的亞舍拉你們要砍下。 14 你不可敬拜別的神，因為耶和華是忌邪的 神，他名為忌邪者。 15 恐怕你與那地的居民立約，他們隨從自己的神行邪淫，給自己的神獻祭的時候，有人叫你，你就吃他的祭物； 16 又恐怕你給你的兒子娶他們的女兒為妻，他們的女兒隨從自己的神行邪淫的時候，使你的兒子也隨從她們的神行邪淫。 17 你不可為自己鑄造神像。

21 “你六日要工作，但第七天你要休息，在耕種和收割的時候，也要休息。 22 在收割初熟麥子的時候，你要守七七節；在年底，你要過收藏節。 23 你所有的男子，都要一年三次去見主耶和華以色列的 神。 24 我要把列國從你面前趕出去，擴張你的境界；你一年三次上去面見耶和華你的 神的時候，必沒有人貪圖你的地。
25 “你不可把我祭物的血和有酵的餅一同獻上，逾越節的祭物也不可留到早晨。 26 你要把你地裡最早生產的初熟之物送到耶和華你的 神的殿裡。不可用羊羔母的奶去煮羊羔。”
27 耶和華對摩西說：“你要把這些話寫上，因為我是按著這些話與你和以色列人立約的。” 28 摩西在那裡與耶和華在一起共四十晝夜，不吃飯，也不喝水。他把這約的話寫在兩塊版上，這就是十誡。
摩西從山上下來
29 摩西從西奈山下來的時候，手裡拿著兩塊法版；摩西從山上下來的時候，不知道自己的臉皮因為與耶和華談過話而發光。 30 亞倫和全體以色列人看見了摩西，見他臉上發光，就害怕接近他。 31 摩西叫他們過來，於是，亞倫和會眾中所有的首領才回到摩西那裡去，摩西就與他們談話。 32 以後，全體以色列人都近前來，摩西就把耶和華在西奈山上與他所說的一切話都吩咐他們。 33 摩西和他們說完了話，就用帕子蒙上自己的臉。 34 每逢摩西進到耶和華面前與他談話的時候，就把帕子揭去，直到他出來。他出來了，就把耶和華吩咐他的對以色列人說。 35 以色列人看見摩西的臉，見他的臉皮發光。摩西再用帕子蒙上自己的臉，直到他進去和耶和華說話為止。
