And it came to pass, when Moses entered the tabernacle, that the pillar of cloud descended and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the Lord (A)talked with Moses. 10 All the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the tabernacle door, and all the people rose and (B)worshiped, each man in his tent door. 11 So (C)the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And he would return to the camp, but (D)his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tabernacle.

The Promise of God’s Presence

12 Then Moses said to the Lord, “See, (E)You say to me, ‘Bring up this people.’ But You have not let me know whom You will send with me. Yet You have said, (F)‘I know you by name, and you have also found grace in My sight.’ 13 Now therefore, I pray, (G)if I have found grace in Your sight, (H)show me now Your way, that I may know You and that I may find grace in Your sight. And consider that this nation is (I)Your people.”

14 And He said, (J)“My Presence will go with you, and I will give you (K)rest.”

15 Then he said to Him, (L)“If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here. 16 For how then will it be known that Your people and I have found grace in Your sight, (M)except You go with us? So we (N)shall be separate, Your people and I, from all the people who are upon the face of the earth.”

17 So the Lord said to Moses, (O)“I will also do this thing that you have spoken; for you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name.”

18 And he said, “Please, show me (P)Your glory.”

19 Then He said, “I will make all My (Q)goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you. (R)I will be gracious to whom I will be (S)gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.”

Isaiah Called to Be a Prophet(A)

In the year that (B)King Uzziah died, I (C)saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, (D)with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried to another and said:

(E)“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
(F)The whole earth is full of His glory!”

And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.

So I said:

“Woe is me, for I am [a]undone!
Because I am a man of (G)unclean lips,
And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips;
For my eyes have seen the King,
The Lord of hosts.”

Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from (H)the altar. And he (I)touched my mouth with it, and said:

“Behold, this has touched your lips;
Your iniquity is taken away,
And your sin [b]purged.”

Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying:

“Whom shall I send,
And who will go for (J)Us?”

Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”

Obedience by Faith

Whoever believes that (A)Jesus is the Christ is (B)born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and (C)keep His commandments. (D)For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And (E)His commandments are not burdensome. For (F)whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that (G)has overcome the world—[a]our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but (H)he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

The Certainty of God’s Witness

This is He who came (I)by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. (J)And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth. For there are three that bear witness [b]in heaven: the Father, (K)the Word, and the Holy Spirit; (L)and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness on earth: (M)the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one.

If we receive (N)the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; (O)for this is the witness of [c]God which He has testified of His Son. 10 He who believes in the Son of God (P)has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God (Q)has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son. 11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 (R)He who has the Son has [d]life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
