The Lord’s Glory

12 Moses said to the Lord, “Look, you have told me, ‘Lead this people up,’ but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You said, ‘I know you by name,(A) and you have also found favor with me.’ 13 Now if I have indeed found favor with you, please teach me your ways,(B) and I will know you, so that I may find favor with you. Now consider that this nation is your people.”(C)

14 And he replied, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”(D)

15 “If your presence does not go,” Moses responded to him, “don’t make us go up from here. 16 How will it be known that I and your people have found favor with you unless you go with us? I and your people will be distinguished by this from all the other people on the face of the earth.”(E)

17 The Lord answered Moses, “I will do this very thing you have asked, for you have found favor with me, and I know you by name.”

18 Then Moses said, “Please, let me see your glory.”(F)

19 He said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim the name ‘the Lord’ before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.”(G)

12 They will come and shout for joy on the heights of Zion;(A)
they will be radiant with joy(B)
because of the Lord’s goodness,
because of the grain, the new wine, the fresh oil,(C)
and because of the young of the flocks and herds.
Their life will be like an irrigated garden,
and they will no longer grow weak from hunger.
13 Then the young women will rejoice with dancing,
while young and old men rejoice together.
I will turn their mourning into joy,(D)
give them consolation,
and bring happiness out of grief.
14 I will refresh the priests with an abundance,[a](E)
and my people will be satisfied with my goodness.
This is the Lord’s declaration.

Light versus Darkness

Let no one deceive you with empty arguments, for God’s wrath(A) is coming on the disobedient[a] because of these things. Therefore, do not become their partners. For you were once darkness, but now you are light(B) in the Lord. Walk as children of light(C) for the fruit of the light[b] consists of all goodness, righteousness, and truth(D) 10 testing(E) what is pleasing(F) to the Lord. 11 Don’t participate in the fruitless(G) works of darkness, but instead expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to mention what is done by them in secret. 13 Everything exposed by the light is made visible,(H) 14 for what makes everything visible is light. Therefore it is said:

Get up, sleeper,(I) and rise up from the dead,(J)
and Christ will shine on you.(K)
