⁹ And the Lord said to Moses, ^(A)“I have seen this people, and indeed it is a ^[a]stiff-necked people!

³ Go up ^(A)to a land flowing with milk and honey; for I will not go up in your midst, lest ^(B)I ^[a]consume you on the way, for you are a ^(C)stiff-necked^[b] people.”

⁴ And when the people heard this bad news, ^(D)they mourned, ^(E)and no one put on his ornaments. ⁵ For the Lord had said to Moses, “Say to the children of Israel, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. I could come up into your midst in one moment and consume you. Now therefore, take off your ^[c]ornaments, that I may ^(F)know what to do to you.’ ”

⁹ Then he said, “If now I have found grace in Your sight, O Lord, ^(A)let my Lord, I pray, go among us, even though we are a ^(B)stiff-necked^[a] people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us as ^(C)Your inheritance.”

¹⁵ The Lord delighted only in your fathers, to love them; and He chose their ^[a]descendants after them, you above all peoples, as it is this day. ¹⁶ Therefore circumcise the foreskin of your ^(A)heart, and be ^(B)stiff-necked^[b] no longer.

¹³ Yet the Lord testified against Israel and against Judah, by all of His ^(A)prophets, ^(B)every seer, saying, ^(C)“Turn from your evil ways, and keep My commandments and My statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by My servants the prophets.” ¹⁴ Nevertheless they would not hear, but ^(D)stiffened their necks, like the necks of their fathers, who ^(E)did not believe in the Lord their God.

¹⁴ Then Jeremiah came from Tophet, where the Lord had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in ^(A)the court of the Lord’s house and said to all the people, ¹⁵ “Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: ‘Behold, I will bring on this city and on all her towns all the doom that I have pronounced against it, because ^(B)they have stiffened their necks that they might not hear My words.’ ”

³ And He said to me: “Son of man, I am sending you to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that has ^(A)rebelled against Me; ^(B)they and their fathers have transgressed against Me to this very day. ^4 (C)For they are ^[a]impudent and stubborn children. I am sending you to them, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God.’
