The Craftsmen for the Tent(A)

31 Yahweh said to Moses, “I have chosen Bezalel, son of Uri and grandson of Hur, from the tribe of Judah. I have filled Bezalel with the Ruach Elohim, making him highly skilled, resourceful, and knowledgeable in all trades. He’s a master artist familiar with gold, silver, and bronze. He knows how to cut and set stones and how to work with wood. He’s an expert in all trades. Also, I have appointed Oholiab, son of Ahisamach, from the tribe of Dan, to help him. I have given every craftsman the skill necessary to make everything I have commanded you: the tent of meeting, the ark containing the words of my promise with the throne of mercy on it, and all the other furnishings for the tent, the table and the dishes, the pure gold lamp stand and all its utensils, the altar for incense, the altar for burnt offerings and all its accessories, the basin with its stand, 10 the special[a] clothes—the holy clothes for the priest Aaron and the clothes for his sons when they serve as priests, 11 the anointing oil, and the sweet-smelling incense for the holy place. They will make all these things as I commanded you.”

The Sign between the Lord and His People

12 Yahweh said to Moses, 13 “Say to the Israelites, ‘Be sure to observe my days of worship. This will be a sign between me and you for generations to come so that you will know that I am Yahweh who makes you holy.

14 “‘Observe the day of worship because it is holy to you. Whoever treats it like any other day must be put to death. Whoever works on that day must be excluded from the people. 15 You may work for six days, but the seventh day is a day of worship, a day when you don’t work. It is holy to Yahweh. Whoever works on that day must be put to death. 16 The Israelites must observe this day of worship, celebrating it for generations to come as a permanent reminder of my promise.[b] 17 It will be a permanent sign between me and the Israelites, because Yahweh made heaven and earth in six days, and on the seventh day he stopped working and was refreshed.’”

18 Yahweh finished speaking to Moses on Mount Sinai. Then he gave him the two tablets with his words on them, stone tablets inscribed by Elohim himself.

31 2 God maketh Bezalel and Aholiab meet for his work. 13 The Sabbath day is the sign of our sanctification. 18 The Tables written by the finger of God.

And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

Behold, I [a]have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah,

Whom I have filled with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all [b]workmanship:

To find out curious works to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass,

Also in the art to set stones, and to carve in timber, and to work in all manner of workmanship.

And behold, I have joined him with Aholiab the son of Ahisamach of the tribe of Dan, and in the hearts of all that are [c]wise hearted, have I put wisdom to make all that I have commanded thee:

That is, the Tabernacle of the Congregation, and the Ark of the Testimony, and the Mercy seat that shall be thereupon, with all instruments of the Tabernacle:

Also the Table and the instruments thereof, and the [d]pure Candlestick with all his instruments, and the Altar of perfume:

Likewise the Altar of burnt offering with all his instruments, and the Laver with his foot:

10 Also the garments of the ministration, and the holy garment for Aaron the Priest, and the garments of his sons, to minister in the Priest’s office,

11 And the [e]anointing oil, and sweet perfume for the Sanctuary according to all that I have commanded thee, shall they do.

12 ¶ Afterward the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, and say, [f]Notwithstanding keep ye my Sabbaths: for it is a sign between me and you in your generations, that ye may know that I the Lord do sanctify you.

14 (A)Ye shall therefore keep the [g]Sabbath: for it is holy unto you: he that defileth it, shall die the death: therefore whosoever worketh therein, the same person shall be even cut off from among his people.

15 Six days shall men work, but in the seventh day is the Sabbath of the holy rest to the Lord: whosoever doeth any work in the Sabbath day, shall die the death.

16 Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, that they may observe the [h]rest throughout their generations for an everlasting Covenant.

17 It is a sign between me and the children of Israel forever: (B)for in six days the Lord made the heaven and the earth, and in the seventh day [i]he ceased and rested.

18 Thus (when the Lord had made an end of communing with Moses upon mount Sinai) (C)he gave him two Tables [j]of the Testimony, even tables of stone, written with the finger of God.

31 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah:

And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,

To devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass,

And in cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship.

And I, behold, I have given with him Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan: and in the hearts of all that are wise hearted I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded thee;

The tabernacle of the congregation, and the ark of the testimony, and the mercy seat that is thereupon, and all the furniture of the tabernacle,

And the table and his furniture, and the pure candlestick with all his furniture, and the altar of incense,

And the altar of burnt offering with all his furniture, and the laver and his foot,

10 And the cloths of service, and the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, to minister in the priest's office,

11 And the anointing oil, and sweet incense for the holy place: according to all that I have commanded thee shall they do.

12 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the Lord that doth sanctify you.

14 Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.

15 Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.

16 Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.

17 It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.

18 And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.

God’s Provision of the Skilled Workers

31 The Lord also spoke to Moses: “Look, I have appointed by name Bezalel(A) son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. I have filled him with God’s Spirit, with wisdom, understanding, and ability in every craft(B) to design artistic works in gold, silver, and bronze, to cut gemstones for mounting, and to carve wood for work in every craft. I have also selected Oholiab[a] son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, to be with him. I have placed wisdom within every skilled craftsman[b] in order to make all that I have commanded you: the tent of meeting, the ark of the testimony, the mercy seat that is on top of it, and all the other furnishings of the tent(C) the table with its utensils, the pure gold lampstand with all its utensils, the altar of incense, the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, the basin with its stand— 10 the specially woven[c] garments, both the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments for his sons to serve as priests, 11 the anointing oil, and the fragrant incense for the sanctuary. They must make them according to all that I have commanded you.”(D)

Observing the Sabbath

12 The Lord said to Moses: 13 “Tell the Israelites: You must observe My Sabbaths, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, so that you will know that I am Yahweh who sets you apart.(E) 14 Observe the Sabbath, for it is holy to you. Whoever profanes it must be put to death. If anyone does work on it, that person must be cut off from his people.(F) 15 Work may be done for six days, but on the seventh day there must be a Sabbath of complete rest,(G) dedicated to the Lord. Anyone who does work on the Sabbath day must be put to death. 16 The Israelites must observe the Sabbath, celebrating it throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant. 17 It is a sign forever between Me and the Israelites, for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, but on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.”

The Two Stone Tablets
