The Sign of the Sabbath
12 Now the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 13 “Now as for you, speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘(A)You must keep My Sabbaths; for this is (B)a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, so that you may know that I am the Lord who sanctifies you. 14 Therefore you are to keep the Sabbath, for it is holy to you. (C)Everyone who profanes it must be put to death; for whoever does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from among his people. 15 (D)For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day there is a (E)Sabbath of complete rest, holy to the Lord; (F)whoever does any work on the Sabbath day must be put to death. 16 So the sons of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to [a]celebrate the Sabbath throughout their generations as a permanent covenant.’ 17 (G)It is a sign between Me and the sons of Israel forever; (H)for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, but on the seventh day He ceased from labor, and was refreshed.”

Numbers 15:27-41

27 ‘Also, if one person sins (A)unintentionally, then he shall offer a one-year-old female goat as a sin offering. 28 And (B)the priest shall make atonement before the Lord for the person who goes astray by an unintentional sin, making atonement for him [a]so that he may be forgiven. 29 You shall have one law for the native among the sons of Israel and for the stranger who resides among them, for one who does anything wrong unintentionally. 30 But the person who does wrong [b](C)defiantly, whether he is a native or a stranger, that one is blaspheming the Lord; and that person shall be cut off from among his people. 31 Since he has (D)despised the word of the Lord and has broken His commandment, that person shall be completely cut off; (E)his [c]guilt will be on him.’”
Sabbath-breaking Punished
32 Now while the sons of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man (F)gathering wood on the Sabbath day. 33 And those who found him gathering wood brought him to Moses and Aaron, and to all the congregation; 34 and they placed him in custody, (G)because it had not been decided what should be done to him. 35 Then the Lord said to Moses, “The man must be put to death; (H)all the congregation shall stone him with stones outside the camp.” 36 So all the congregation brought him outside the camp and stoned him [d]to death with stones, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
37 The Lord also spoke to Moses, saying, 38 “Speak to the sons of Israel and tell them that they shall make for themselves (I)tassels on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and that they shall put on the tassel of each corner a [e]violet thread. 39 It shall be a tassel for you [f]to look at and (J)remember all the commandments of the Lord, so that you will do them and not [g]follow your own heart and your own eyes, [h]which led you to prostitute yourselves, 40 so that you will remember and do all My commandments and (K)be holy to your God. 41 I am the Lord your God who brought you out from the land of Egypt to be your God; I am the Lord your God.”
