¹³ Then Moses said to God, “If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?” ¹⁴ God said to Moses, “I am who I am.”^[a] And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel: ^(A)‘I am has sent me to you.’” ¹⁵ God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘The Lord,^[b] the ^(B)God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is ^(C)my name forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations.

⁴ So Moses cut two tablets of stone like the first. And he rose early in the morning and went up on Mount Sinai, as the Lord had commanded him, and took in his hand two tablets of stone. ⁵ The Lord ^(A)descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and ^(B)proclaimed the name of the Lord. ⁶ The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, ^(C)“The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and ^(D)gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast ^(E)love and faithfulness, ^7 (F)keeping steadfast love for thousands,^{[a] (G)}forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but ^(H)who will by no means clear the guilty, ^(I)visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children's children, to the third and the fourth generation.”
