Offerings for the Sanctuary

25 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ²“^(A)Tell the sons of Israel to take a ^[a]contribution for Me; ^(B)from everyone whose heart moves him you shall take My ^[b]contribution. ³This is the ^[c]contribution which you are to take from them: gold, silver, and bronze, ⁴^[d]^(C)violet, purple, and scarlet material, fine linen, goat hair, ⁵rams’ skins dyed red, ^[e]fine leather, acacia wood, ⁶^(D)oil for lighting, ^(E)balsam oil for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense, ⁷onyx stones and setting stones for the ^(F)ephod and for the ^[f]^(G)breastpiece. ⁸Have them ^(H)construct a sanctuary for Me, ^(I)so that I may dwell among them. ⁹^(J)According to all that I am going to show you as the pattern of the tabernacle and the pattern of all its furniture, so you shall construct it.

The Golden Calf

32 Now when the people saw that Moses ^(A)delayed to come down from the mountain, the people assembled around Aaron and said to him, “Come, ^(B)make us ^[a]a god who will go before us; for ^(C)this Moses, the man who brought us up from the land of Egypt—we do not know what happened to him.” ²Aaron said to them, “^(D)Tear off the gold rings which are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.” ³So all the people tore off the gold rings which were in their ears and brought them to Aaron. ⁴Then he took the gold from their ^[b]hands, and fashioned it with an engraving tool and made it into a ^(E)cast metal calf; and they said, “^[c]This is your god, Israel, who brought you up from the land of Egypt.” ⁵Now when Aaron saw this, he built an altar in front of it; and Aaron made a proclamation and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to the Lord.” ⁶So the next day they got up early and ^(F)offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and ^(G)the people sat down to eat and to drink, and got up ^(H)to engage in lewd behavior.

The Glory of the Lord

³⁴^(A)Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the ^(B)glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. ³⁵And Moses ^(C)was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. ³⁶Throughout their journeys, ^(D)whenever the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the sons of Israel would set out; ³⁷but ^(E)if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not set out until the day when it was taken up. ³⁸For throughout their journeys, ^(F)the cloud of the Lord was on the tabernacle by day, and there was fire in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel.
