¹³ “^(A)You shall not murder.

¹¹ Say to them, ‘^(A)As I live!’ declares the Lord ^[a]God, ‘I take ^(B)no pleasure at all in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked ^(C)turn from his way and live. ^(D)Turn back, turn back from your evil ways! Why then should you die, house of Israel?’

^18 (A)You shall not take vengeance, ^(B)nor hold any grudge against the sons of your people, but ^(C)you shall love your neighbor as yourself; I am the Lord.

³ Now the scribes and the Pharisees *brought a woman caught in the act of adultery, and after placing her in the center of the courtyard, ⁴ they *said to Him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the very act of committing adultery. ⁵ Now in the Law, ^(A)Moses commanded us to stone such women; what then do You say?” ⁶ Now they were saying this to ^(B)test Him, ^(C)so that they might have grounds for accusing Him. But Jesus stooped down and with His finger wrote on the ground. ⁷ When they persisted in asking Him, ^(D)He straightened up and said to them, “^(E)He who is without sin among you, let him be the ^(F)first to throw a stone at her.” ⁸ And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. ⁹ Now when they heard this, they began leaving, one by one, beginning with the older ones, and He was left alone, and the woman where she was, in the center of the courtyard. ¹⁰ And ^(G)straightening up, Jesus said to her, “Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?” ¹¹ She said, “No one, ^[a]Lord.” And Jesus said, “^(H)I do not condemn you, either. Go. From now on do not ^(I)sin any longer.”]]

³⁸ “^(A)You have heard that it was said, ‘^(B)Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ ³⁹ But I say to you, do not show opposition against an evil person; but ^(C)whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other toward him also.

⁴³ “^(A)You have heard that it was said, ‘^(B)You shall love your neighbor ^(C)and hate your enemy.’ ⁴⁴ But I say to you, ^(D)love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
