¹² “Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.^(A)

Children and Parents

6 Children, obey your parents in the Lord,^[a] for this is right. ² “Honor your father and mother”—this is the first commandment with a promise^(A)— ³ “so that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”

²⁰ Children, obey your parents in everything, for this is your acceptable duty in the Lord.^(A)

Warnings against Evil Companions

²⁰ You know the commandments: ‘You shall not commit adultery. You shall not murder. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness. Honor your father and mother.’ ”^(A)
