Geburt Moses; seine Bewahrung
2 Und es ging hin ein Mann von dem Hause Levis und nahm eine Tochter Levis. 2 Und die Frau empfing und gebar einen Sohn. Und als sie sah, daß er schön war, verbarg sie ihn drei Monate lang. 3 Als sie ihn aber nicht länger verbergen konnte, nahm sie ein Kästlein von Rohr, und verklebte es mit Lehm und Pech, tat das Kind darein, und legte es in das Schilf am Gestade des Flusses. 4 Aber seine Schwester stellte sich in einiger Entfernung hin, damit sie erführe, wie es ihm ergehen würde.
5 Da kam die Tochter des Pharao herab, um im Flusse zu baden, und ihre Jungfrauen gingen an das Ufer des Flusses; und als sie das Kästlein mitten im Schilf sah, sandte sie ihre Magd hin und ließ es holen. 6 Und als sie es öffnete, sah sie das Kind. Und siehe, es war ein weinendes Knäblein! Da erbarmte sie sich über dasselbe und sprach: es ist eines der hebräischen Kinder!
7 Da sprach seine Schwester zu der Tochter des Pharao: Soll ich hingehen und eine hebräische Säugamme rufen, daß sie dir das Kind säuge?
8 Die Tochter des Pharao sprach zu ihr: Geh hin! Die Jungfrau ging hin und rief des Kindes Mutter. 9 Da sprach des Pharao Tochter zu ihr: Nimm das kleine Kind hin und säuge es mir, ich will dir deinen Lohn geben! Die Frau nahm das Kind und säugte es. 10 Und als das Kind groß geworden, brachte sie es der Tochter des Pharao, und es wurde ihr Sohn, und sie hieß ihn Mose[a] . Denn sie sprach: Ich habe ihn aus dem Wasser gezogen.
Flucht Moses nach Madian
11 Zu der Zeit aber, als Mose groß geworden, ging er aus zu seinen Brüdern und sah ihre Lasten und sah, daß ein Ägypter einen Hebräer, einen seiner Brüder, schlug. 12 Und er wandte sich hin und her, und als er sah, daß kein Mensch zugegen war, erschlug er den Ägypter und verscharrte ihn im Sand. 13 Am zweiten Tag ging er auch aus, und siehe, zwei hebräische Männer zankten miteinander, und er sprach zu dem Schuldigen: Warum schlägst du deinen Nächsten?
14 Er aber sprach: Wer hat dich zum Obersten und Richter über uns gesetzt? Gedenkst du mich auch zu erwürgen, wie du den Ägypter erwürgt hast? Da fürchtete sich Mose und sprach: Wahrlich, das ist ruchbar geworden!
15 Und es kam vor den Pharao; der suchte Mose umzubringen. Aber Mose floh vor dem Pharao und hielt sich im Lande Midian auf und setzte sich an einen Brunnen. 16 Aber der Priester in Midian hatte sieben Töchter; die kamen, um Wasser zu schöpfen, und füllten die Tränkrinnen, um ihres Vaters Schafe zu tränken. 17 Da kamen die Hirten und jagten sie fort. Aber Mose machte sich auf und half ihnen und tränkte ihre Schafe.
18 Und als sie zu ihrem Vater Reguel[b] kamen, sprach er: Warum seid ihr heute so bald wiedergekommen? 19 Sie sprachen: Ein ägyptischer Mann errettete uns von der Hand der Hirten und schöpfte uns Wasser genug und tränkte die Schafe. 20 Er sprach zu seinen Töchtern: Wo ist er? Warum habt ihr den Mann stehen lassen? Ruft ihn her, daß er mit uns esse!
21 Und Mose willigte ein, bei dem Mann zu bleiben; der gab ihm seine Tochter Zippora zur Frau. 22 Die gebar einen Sohn, den hieß er Gersom[c] ; denn er sprach: Ich bin ein Fremdling geworden in einem fremden Land.
Gott erbarmt sich über Israel
23 Aber viele Tage darnach starb der König in Ägypten. Und die Kinder Israel seufzten über ihre Knechtschaft und schrieen. Und ihr Geschrei über ihre Knechtschaft kam vor Gott. 24 Und Gott erhörte ihr Wehklagen, und Gott gedachte an seinen Bund mit Abraham, Isaak und Jakob. 25 Und Gott sah die Kinder Israel an, und Gott nahm Kenntnis davon.

2 And (B)a man of the house of Levi went and took as wife a daughter of Levi. 2 So the woman conceived and bore a son. And (C)when she saw that he was a beautiful child, she hid him three months. 3 But when she could no longer hide him, she took an ark of (D)bulrushes for him, daubed it with (E)asphalt and (F)pitch, put the child in it, and laid it in the reeds (G)by the river’s bank. 4 (H)And his sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to him.
5 Then the (I)daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river. And her maidens walked along the riverside; and when she saw the ark among the reeds, she sent her maid to get it. 6 And when she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby wept. So she had compassion on him, and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”
7 Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?”
8 And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go.” So the maiden went and called the child’s mother. 9 Then Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.” So the woman took the child and nursed him. 10 And the child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became (J)her son. So she called his name [a]Moses, saying, “Because I drew him out of the water.”
Moses Flees to Midian(K)
11 Now it came to pass in those days, (L)when Moses was grown, that he went out to his brethren and looked at their burdens. And he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his brethren. 12 So he looked this way and that way, and when he saw no one, he (M)killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. 13 And (N)when he went out the second day, behold, two Hebrew men (O)were fighting, and he said to the one who did the wrong, “Why are you striking your companion?”
14 Then he said, (P)“Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you intend to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?”
So Moses (Q)feared and said, “Surely this thing is known!” 15 When Pharaoh heard of this matter, he sought to kill Moses. But (R)Moses fled from [b]the face of Pharaoh and dwelt in the land of (S)Midian; and he sat down by (T)a well.
16 (U)Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters. (V)And they came and drew water, and they filled the (W)troughs to water their father’s flock. 17 Then the (X)shepherds came and (Y)drove them away; but Moses stood up and helped them, and (Z)watered their flock.
18 When they came to (AA)Reuel[c] their father, (AB)he said, “How is it that you have come so soon today?”
19 And they said, “An Egyptian delivered us from the hand of the shepherds, and he also drew enough water for us and watered the flock.”
20 So he said to his daughters, “And where is he? Why is it that you have left the man? Call him, that he may (AC)eat bread.”
21 Then Moses was content to live with the man, and he gave (AD)Zipporah his daughter to Moses. 22 And she bore him a son. He called his name (AE)Gershom,[d] for he said, “I have been (AF)a [e]stranger in a foreign land.”
23 Now it happened (AG)in the process of time that the king of Egypt died. Then the children of Israel (AH)groaned because of the bondage, and they cried out; and (AI)their cry came up to God because of the bondage. 24 So God (AJ)heard their groaning, and God (AK)remembered His (AL)covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. 25 And God (AM)looked upon the children of Israel, and God (AN)acknowledged them.

2 Un homme de la tribu de Lévi épousa une fille de la même tribu. 2 Elle devint enceinte et donna le jour à un fils. Elle vit que c’était un beau bébé et le cacha pendant trois mois[a]. 3 Quand elle ne parvint plus à le tenir caché, elle prit une corbeille en papyrus, l’enduisit d’asphalte et de poix et y plaça le petit garçon. Puis elle déposa la corbeille au milieu des joncs sur la rive du Nil. 4 La sœur de l’enfant se posta à quelque distance pour voir ce qu’il en adviendrait.
5 Peu après, la fille du pharaon descendit sur les bords du fleuve pour s’y baigner. Ses suivantes se promenaient sur la berge le long du Nil. Elle aperçut la corbeille au milieu des joncs et la fit chercher par sa servante. 6 Elle l’ouvrit et vit l’enfant : c’était un petit garçon qui pleurait. Elle eut pitié de lui et dit : C’est un petit des Hébreux.
7 Alors la sœur de l’enfant s’approcha et dit à la fille du pharaon : Veux-tu que j’aille te chercher une nourrice parmi les femmes des Hébreux pour qu’elle t’allaite cet enfant ?
8 La fille du pharaon lui dit : Va !
La jeune fille alla donc chercher la mère de l’enfant.
9 La princesse lui dit : Emmène cet enfant et allaite-le pour moi. Je te paierai un salaire.
La femme prit l’enfant et l’allaita. 10 Quand il eut grandi, elle l’amena à la fille du pharaon. Celle-ci l’adopta comme son fils et lui donna le nom de Moïse (Sorti), car, dit-elle, je l’ai sorti de l’eau.
Le meurtre d’un Egyptien
11 Le temps passa. Lorsque Moïse fut devenu adulte, il alla rendre visite à ses frères de race et fut témoin des corvées qu’on leur imposait. Il vit un Egyptien qui rouait de coups l’un de ses frères hébreux. 12 Après avoir regardé de côté et d’autre pour voir s’il n’y avait personne, il frappa l’Egyptien à mort et l’enfouit dans le sable. 13 Le lendemain, il revint et aperçut deux Hébreux qui se battaient. Alors il dit à celui qui avait tort : Pourquoi frappes-tu ton compagnon ?
14 Mais celui-ci répliqua : Qui t’a établi chef et juge[b] sur nous ? Veux-tu aussi me tuer comme tu as tué l’Egyptien ?
Alors Moïse prit peur ; il comprit que l’affaire s’était ébruitée.
La fuite au désert
15 Effectivement, le pharaon apprit ce qui s’était passé et chercha à faire mourir Moïse, mais celui-ci prit la fuite. Il se rendit au pays de Madian[c] et s’assit près d’un puits[d].
16 Le prêtre de Madian avait sept filles. Elles vinrent puiser de l’eau et remplirent les abreuvoirs pour faire boire le petit bétail de leur père. 17 Mais des bergers survinrent et se mirent à les chasser. Alors Moïse intervint pour les défendre et fit boire leur troupeau. 18 Quand elles revinrent vers Reouel[e] leur père, celui-ci leur demanda :
Comment se fait-il que vous soyez si vite de retour aujourd’hui ?
19 – Un Egyptien nous a défendues contre les bergers, dirent-elles, et même : il a puisé pour nous beaucoup d’eau et a fait boire le troupeau.
20 – Où est cet homme à présent ? Pourquoi l’avez-vous laissé là-bas ? Allez le chercher pour qu’il vienne manger chez nous.
21 Moïse accepta de s’établir chez cet homme qui lui donna sa fille Séphora en mariage. 22 Elle lui donna un fils qu’il appela Guershom (Emigré en ces lieux) car, dit-il, je suis un émigré dans une terre étrangère.
Moïse envoyé par Dieu
Dieu intervient selon son alliance
23 Beaucoup de temps passa. Le pharaon d’Egypte mourut et les Israélites gémissaient et criaient encore sous le poids de l’esclavage, et leur appel parvint jusqu’à Dieu. 24 Dieu entendit leur plainte et tint compte de son alliance avec Abraham, avec Isaac et avec Jacob[f]. 25 Il vit les Israélites et prit leur situation en considération.

2 Un hombre de la familia de Leví fue y tomó por esposa a una descendiente de Leví, 2 que concibió y dio a luz un hijo. Al verlo tan hermoso, lo mantuvo escondido tres meses;(A) 3 pero como no pudo esconderlo más tiempo tomó un cesto de juncos, lo calafateó con brea y asfalto, colocó allí al niño, y lo dejó en un carrizal a la orilla del río. 4 Una hermana del niño se quedó a cierta distancia para ver qué sucedería.
5 La hija del faraón bajó al río para bañarse y, mientras sus doncellas se paseaban por la ribera del río, vio el cesto en el carrizal. Entonces envió a una criada suya para que lo recogiera. 6 Cuando ella abrió el cesto, vio allí a un niño que lloraba, y le tuvo compasión. Entonces dijo:
«Este niño es de los hebreos.»
7 La hermana del niño dijo entonces a la hija del faraón:
«¿Debo ir y llamar a una nodriza hebrea, para que críe este niño por ti?»
8 Y la hija del faraón respondió:
«Sí, ve.»
Entonces la joven fue y llamó a la madre del niño, 9 y la hija del faraón le dijo:
«Llévate a este niño y críalo por mí. Yo te pagaré por hacerlo.»
La mujer tomó entonces al niño y lo crió, 10 y cuando el niño creció ella lo llevó a la hija del faraón, quien lo adoptó como su hijo(B) y le puso por nombre Moisés,[a] pues dijo: «Yo lo rescaté de las aguas.»[b]

11 Moisés creció, y un día salió a ver a sus hermanos, y los vio trabajar muy duro.(C) También vio que un egipcio golpeaba a uno de sus hermanos hebreos. 12 Moisés miró a todas partes y, al no ver a nadie, mató al egipcio y lo escondió en la arena. 13 Al día siguiente, salió y vio que dos hebreos reñían, así que le dijo al que maltrataba al otro:
«¿Por qué golpeas a tu prójimo?»
14 Y aquél respondió:
«¿Quién te ha puesto a ti como nuestro príncipe y juez? ¿Acaso piensas matarme, como mataste al egipcio?»(D)
Entonces Moisés tuvo miedo, y dijo:
«Ciertamente esto ya ha sido descubierto.»
15 Cuando el faraón se enteró de este hecho, buscó a Moisés para matarlo; pero Moisés huyó del faraón y habitó en la tierra de Madián.(E) 16 Mientras estaba sentado junto a un pozo, las siete hijas del sacerdote de Madián vinieron a sacar agua para llenar las pilas y dar de beber a las ovejas de su padre, 17 pero llegaron los pastores y las echaron de allí. Entonces Moisés se levantó a defenderlas, y dio de beber a sus ovejas. 18 Cuando ellas volvieron a donde estaba Reuel, su padre, éste les dijo:
«¿Por qué volvieron hoy tan temprano?»
19 Y ellas respondieron:
«Un egipcio nos defendió de los pastores, y además sacó agua por nosotras y les dio de beber a las ovejas.»
20 Reuel preguntó a sus hijas:
«¿Y dónde está ese hombre? ¿Por qué lo dejaron solo? ¡Llámenlo, para que venga a comer!»
21 Moisés aceptó quedarse a vivir con ese hombre, y él le dio por esposa a su hija Séfora. 22 Ella le dio a luz un hijo, y él le puso por nombre Gersón, porque dijo: «Soy un extraño,[c] en una tierra extraña.»
23 Después de mucho tiempo murió el rey de Egipto. Los hijos de Israel gemían por causa de su esclavitud, y clamaron a Dios. Por causa de su esclavitud, su clamor llegó hasta Dios, 24 y cuando Dios oyó sus gemidos, se acordó(F) de su pacto con Abrahán, Isaac y Jacob. 25 Entonces Dios miró a los hijos de Israel, y los reconoció.
