‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt,(A) and how I carried you on eagles’ wings(B) and brought you to myself.(C) Now if you obey me fully(D) and keep my covenant,(E) then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession.(F) Although the whole earth(G) is mine, you[a] will be for me a kingdom of priests(H) and a holy nation.’(I) These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.”

So Moses went back and summoned the elders(J) of the people and set before them all the words the Lord had commanded him to speak.(K) The people all responded together, “We will do everything the Lord has said.”(L) So Moses brought their answer back to the Lord.

The Lord said to Moses, “I am going to come to you in a dense cloud,(M) so that the people will hear me speaking(N) with you and will always put their trust(O) in you.” Then Moses told the Lord what the people had said.

Moses bowed to the ground at once and worshiped. “Lord,” he said, “if I have found favor(K) in your eyes, then let the Lord go with us.(L) Although this is a stiff-necked(M) people, forgive our wickedness and our sin,(N) and take us as your inheritance.”(O)

The Glory of the Lord

34 Then the cloud(A) covered the tent of meeting, and the glory(B) of the Lord filled the tabernacle. 35 Moses could not enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory(C) of the Lord filled the tabernacle.(D)

36 In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out;(E) 37 but if the cloud did not lift, they did not set out—until the day it lifted. 38 So the cloud(F) of the Lord was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the Israelites during all their travels.
