17 And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the Lord, and pitched in Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink. 2 Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the Lord? 3 And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst? 4 And Moses cried unto the Lord, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me. 5 And the Lord said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go. 6 Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. 7 And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the Lord, saying, Is the Lord among us, or not?
8 Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim. 9 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand. 10 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. 11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12 But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. 13 And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword. 14 And the Lord said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven. 15 And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovah-nissi: 16 for he said, Because the Lord hath sworn that the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.

Water From the Rock
17 All the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the Wilderness of Sin, from place to place, according to the commandment of the Lord, and pitched in Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink. 2 Therefore the people contended with Moses and said, “Give us water so that we may drink.”
And Moses said to them, “Why do you contend with me? Why do you test the Lord?”
3 But the people thirsted there for water, and the people murmured against Moses, and said, “Why is it that you have brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?”
4 Then Moses cried out to the Lord, saying, “What shall I do to this people? They are almost ready to stone me.”
5 The Lord said to Moses, “Pass over before the people, and take with you some of the elders of Israel. And take in your hand your rod with which you struck the Nile, and go. 6 Indeed, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb, and you shall strike the rock, and there water shall come out of it, so that the people may drink.” Then Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. 7 He called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the contending of the children of Israel, and because they tested the Lord, saying, “Is the Lord among us, or not?”
The Amalekites Defeated
8 Then Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim. 9 So Moses said to Joshua, “Choose men for us and go out, fight against Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.”
10 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him and fought against Amalek. And Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. 11 Now when Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed, but when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12 But Moses’ hands became heavy. So they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side. And his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. 13 So Joshua laid low Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this as a memorial in a book and rehearse it to Joshua, for I will utterly wipe out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.”
15 Then Moses built an altar and called the name of it, The Lord Is My Banner; 16 for he said, “For the Lord has sworn that the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.”

17 Conforme al mandamiento del Señor, toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel partió del desierto de Sin en jornadas cortas hasta acampar en Refidín. Pero allí el pueblo no tenía agua para beber, 2 así que todo el pueblo discutió con Moisés y le dijo:
«Danos agua. Queremos beber.»
Moisés les dijo:
«¿Por qué se pelean conmigo? ¿Por qué ponen a prueba al Señor?»
3 Pero el pueblo tenía sed, y murmuró contra Moisés, y dijo:
«¿Para qué nos hiciste salir de Egipto? ¿Para matarnos de sed a nosotros, a nuestros hijos y a nuestros ganados?»
4 Entonces Moisés pidió ayuda al Señor y le dijo:
«¿Qué voy a hacer con este pueblo? ¡Un poco más, y me matarán a pedradas!»
5 Y el Señor le dijo a Moisés:
«Adelántate al pueblo. Anda, lleva contigo a algunos de los ancianos de Israel, y llévate también la vara con la que golpeaste el río. 6 Voy a esperarte en Horeb, junto a la roca que está allí, y tú golpearás la roca, y de ella brotará agua, que el pueblo podrá beber.»
Y Moisés lo hizo así, en presencia de los ancianos de Israel, 7 y a ese lugar lo llamó Masah,[a] porque los hijos de Israel pusieron a prueba al Señor, y también Meriba,[b] por la discusión que tuvo con ellos, pues dijeron: «¿Está el Señor entre nosotros, o no está?»(A)
La guerra con Amalec
8 Amalec vino a Refidín y peleó contra Israel. 9 Entonces Moisés le dijo a Josué:
«Escoge nuestros mejores hombres, y sal a pelear contra Amalec. Mañana yo estaré sobre la cumbre del cerro, con la vara de Dios en mi mano.»
10 Josué hizo lo que Moisés le dijo, y combatió contra Amalec, y Moisés, Aarón y Jur subieron a la cumbre del cerro. 11 Mientras Moisés mantenía la mano en alto, los israelitas vencían; pero cuando bajaba la mano, vencía Amalec. 12 Pero a Moisés se le cansaban las manos, así que tomaron una piedra y se la pusieron debajo, para que pudiera sentarse, mientras que Aarón y Jur le sostenían las manos, el uno del lado izquierdo y el otro del lado derecho. Así pudo mantener firmes las manos, hasta que se puso el sol, 13 y Josué derrotó a Amalec y a su pueblo a filo de espada.
14 El Señor le dijo a Moisés:
«Escribe esto en un libro, para que se recuerde, y dile a Josué que yo borraré por completo la memoria de Amalec.»(B)
15 Luego Moisés levantó un altar y le puso por nombre Adonay Nisi,[c] 16 porque dijo: «La mano de Amalec se levantó contra el trono del Señor. Por eso el Señor estará en guerra contra Amalec de generación en generación.»

So Moses said to them, “Why do you contend with me? Why do you (F)tempt the Lord?”
3 And the people thirsted there for water, and the people (G)complained against Moses, and said, “Why is it you have brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our (H)livestock with thirst?”

17 Toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel partió del desierto de Sin por sus jornadas, conforme al mandamiento de Jehová, y acamparon en Refidim; y no había agua para que el pueblo bebiese. 2 Y altercó el pueblo con Moisés, y dijeron: Danos agua para que bebamos. Y Moisés les dijo: ¿Por qué altercáis conmigo? ¿Por qué tentáis a Jehová? 3 Así que el pueblo tuvo allí sed, y murmuró contra Moisés, y dijo: ¿Por qué nos hiciste subir de Egipto para matarnos de sed a nosotros, a nuestros hijos y a nuestros ganados? 4 Entonces clamó Moisés a Jehová, diciendo: ¿Qué haré con este pueblo? De aquí a un poco me apedrearán. 5 Y Jehová dijo a Moisés: Pasa delante del pueblo, y toma contigo de los ancianos de Israel; y toma también en tu mano tu vara con que golpeaste el río, y ve. 6 He aquí que yo estaré delante de ti allí sobre la peña en Horeb; y golpearás la peña, y saldrán de ella aguas, y beberá el pueblo. Guerra con Amalec
8 Entonces vino Amalec y peleó contra Israel en Refidim. 9 Y dijo Moisés a Josué: Escógenos varones, y sal a pelear contra Amalec; mañana yo estaré sobre la cumbre del collado, y la vara de Dios en mi mano. 10 E hizo Josué como le dijo Moisés, peleando contra Amalec; y Moisés y Aarón y Hur subieron a la cumbre del collado. 11 Y sucedía que cuando alzaba Moisés su mano, Israel prevalecía; mas cuando él bajaba su mano, prevalecía Amalec. 12 Y las manos de Moisés se cansaban; por lo que tomaron una piedra, y la pusieron debajo de él, y se sentó sobre ella; y Aarón y Hur sostenían sus manos, el uno de un lado y el otro de otro; así hubo en sus manos firmeza hasta que se puso el sol. 13 Y Josué deshizo a Amalec y a su pueblo a filo de espada.
14 Y Jehová dijo a Moisés: Escribe esto para memoria en un libro, y di a Josué que raeré del todo la memoria de Amalec de debajo del cielo.(B) 15 Y Moisés edificó un altar, y llamó su nombre Jehová-nisi;[c] 16 y dijo: Por cuanto la mano de Amalec se levantó contra el trono de Jehová, Jehová tendrá guerra con Amalec de generación en generación.
