¹⁴ Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this as a memorial in a book and recite it in the ears of ^(A)Joshua, that ^(B)I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven.” ¹⁵ And Moses ^(C)built an altar and called the name of it, The Lord Is My Banner, ¹⁶ saying, “A hand upon the throne^[a] of the Lord! ^(D)The Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.”

Jethro's Advice

18 ^(E)Jethro, ^(F)the priest of Midian, Moses' father-in-law, heard of all that God had done for Moses and for Israel his people, how the Lord had brought Israel out of Egypt. ² Now Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, had taken Zipporah, Moses' wife, after he had sent her home, ³ along with her ^(G)two sons. The name of the one was Gershom (^(H)for he said, ^(I)“I have been a sojourner^[b] in a foreign land”), ⁴ and the name of the other, Eliezer^[c] (for he said, “The God of my father was my help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh”).
