Bread from Heaven

16 And they (A)journeyed from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came to the Wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and (B)Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they departed from the land of Egypt. Then the whole congregation of the children of Israel (C)complained against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. And the children of Israel said to them, (D)“Oh, that we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, (E)when we sat by the pots of meat and when we ate bread to the full! For you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.”

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain (F)bread from heaven for you. And the people shall go out and gather [a]a certain quota every day, that I may (G)test them, whether they will (H)walk in My law or not. And it shall be on the sixth day that they shall prepare what they bring in, and (I)it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.”

Yahweh Provides Food in the Desert

16 And they set out from Elim, and all the community of the Israelites[a] came to the desert of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai,[b] in the fifteenth day of the second month of their going out from the land of Egypt. And all the community of the Israelites[c] grumbled against Moses and against Aaron in the desert. And the Israelites[d] said to them, “If only we had died[e] by the hand of Yahweh in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots[f] of meat, when we ate bread until we were full,[g] because you have brought us out to this desert to kill all of this assembly with hunger.” And Yahweh said to Moses, “Look, I am going to rain down for you bread from the heavens, and the people will go out and gather enough for the day on its day; in that way I will test them: Will they go according to my law or not? And then on the sixth day, they will prepare what they bring, and it will be twice over what they will gather every other day.”
