Bitter Water Made Sweet
22 Then Moses ordered Israel to set out from the Red Sea,[a] and they went into the wilderness of Shur. They went three days in the wilderness and found no water. 23 When they came to Marah, they could not drink the water of Marah because it was bitter. That is why it was called Marah.[b] 24 And the people complained against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” 25 He cried out to the Lord; and the Lord showed him a piece of wood;[c] he threw it into the water, and the water became sweet.
There the Lord[d] made for them a statute and an ordinance and there he put them to the test. 26 He said, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God, and do what is right in his sight, and give heed to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will not bring upon you any of the diseases that I brought upon the Egyptians; for I am the Lord who heals you.”
27 Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees; and they camped there by the water.

22 (B)Poi Mosè fece partire gli Israeliti dal mar Rosso ed essi si diressero verso il deserto di Sur; camminarono tre giorni nel deserto e non trovarono acqua. 23 Quando giunsero a Mara, non potevano bere l’acqua di Mara, perché era amara; perciò quel luogo fu chiamato Mara[a]. 24 Allora il popolo mormorò contro Mosè, dicendo: «Che berremo?» 25 Egli gridò al Signore; e il Signore gli mostrò un legno. Mosè lo gettò nell’acqua, e l’acqua divenne dolce. È lì che il Signore diede al popolo una legge e una prescrizione, e lo mise alla prova, dicendo: 26 «Se tu ascolti attentamente la voce del Signore che è il tuo Dio, e fai ciò che è giusto agli occhi suoi, porgi orecchio ai suoi comandamenti e osservi tutte le sue leggi, io non ti infliggerò nessuna delle infermità che ho inflitte agli Egiziani, perché io sono il Signore, colui che ti guarisce».
27 Poi giunsero a Elim, dov’erano dodici sorgenti d’acqua e settanta palme; e si accamparono lì presso le acque.

23 Da kamen sie nach Mara; aber sie konnten das Wasser von Mara nicht trinken, denn es war sehr bitter. Daher nannte man es Mara[a].
24 Da murrte das Volk gegen Mose und sprach: Was sollen wir trinken?
25 Er aber schrie zum Herrn, und der Herr zeigte ihm ein Holz; das warf er ins Wasser, da wurde das Wasser süß. Dort gab er ihnen Gesetz und Recht, und dort prüfte er sie;
26 und er sprach: Wenn du der Stimme des Herrn, deines Gottes, eifrig gehorchen wirst und tust, was vor ihm recht ist, und seine Gebote zu Ohren fasst und alle seine Satzungen hältst, so will ich keine der Krankheiten auf dich legen, die ich auf Ägypten gelegt habe; denn ich bin der Herr, dein Arzt[b]!
27 Und sie kamen nach Elim; dort waren 12 Wasserquellen und 70 Palmbäume; und sie lagerten sich dort am Wasser.

22 Ezután Mózes útnak indította Izráel táborát a Vörös-tengertől Súr pusztája felé. Három napon keresztül vonultak, de sehol sem találtak ivóvizet. 23 Azután egy olyan helyre érkeztek, ahol végre találtak vizet, de az meg ihatatlanul keserű volt. Azt a helyet „Márának”, vagyis keserűnek nevezték.
24 A nép zúgolódni kezdett, és Mózest hibáztatták. „Most honnan vegyünk ivóvizet?” — kérdezték.
25 Akkor Mózes segítségért kiáltott az Örökkévalóhoz, aki egy fadarabra irányította Mózes tekintetét. Amikor Mózes beledobta a vízbe azt a fadarabot, a víz ihatóvá változott.
Az Örökkévaló ott törvényeket és rendelkezéseket közölt a néppel, és próbára tette őket, hogy vajon engedelmeskednek-e neki. 26 Ezt mondta a népnek: „Ha figyelmesen hallgatsz Istened, az Örökkévaló hangjára, ha azt teszed, amit ő helyesnek tart, ha engedelmesen követed parancsait és megtartod rendelkezéseit, akkor egyetlen betegséget sem engedek hozzád férni azok közül, amelyekkel az egyiptomiakat sújtottam, mert én vagyok az Örökkévaló, aki meggyógyítalak téged.”
27 Ezután továbbmentek, majd az Élim-oázisba érkeztek, ahol 12 forrás fakadt, és 70 pálmafa nőtt. Ott, a források mellett letáboroztak.

22 Sur ordre de Moïse, Israël quitta la mer des Roseaux et prit la direction du désert de Shour[a]. Ils marchèrent pendant trois jours dans le désert sans trouver de point d’eau. 23 Ils arrivèrent à Mara[b] où il y avait de l’eau, mais ils ne purent pas en boire parce qu’elle était amère – d’où le nom de Mara (Amertume). 24 Alors le peuple se plaignit de Moïse en disant : Qu’allons-nous boire ?
25 Moïse implora l’Eternel, qui lui indiqua un bois d’une certaine espèce qu’il jeta dans l’eau, et l’eau devint potable.
C’est à cet endroit que l’Eternel donna au peuple des préceptes et un code de droit ; là aussi il le mit à l’épreuve. 26 Il leur dit : Si vous écoutez attentivement l’Eternel votre Dieu, et si vous faites ce qui est droit à ses yeux, si vous êtes attentifs à ses commandements et si vous obéissez à toutes ses lois, je ne vous infligerai aucune des maladies dont j’ai frappé les Egyptiens ; car je suis l’Eternel qui vous apporte la guérison.
27 Ensuite, les Israélites arrivèrent à Elim[c] où il y avait douze sources d’eau et soixante-dix palmiers. Ils campèrent là près de l’eau.
