14 Adonai said to Moshe, 2 “Tell the people of Isra’el to turn around and set up camp in front of Pi-Hachirot, between Migdol and the sea, in front of Ba‘al-Tz’fon; camp opposite it, by the sea. 3 Then Pharaoh will say that the people of Isra’el are wandering aimlessly in the countryside, the desert has closed in on them. 4 I will make Pharaoh so hardhearted that he will pursue them; thus I will win glory for myself at the expense of Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will realize at last that I am Adonai.” The people did as ordered.
5 When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, Pharaoh and his servants had a change of heart toward the people. They said, “What have we done, letting Isra’el stop being our slaves?” 6 So he prepared his chariots and took his people with him — 7 he took 600 first-quality chariots, as well as all the other chariots in Egypt, along with their commanders. 8 Adonai made Pharaoh hardhearted, and he pursued the people of Isra’el, as they left boldly. (ii) 9 The Egyptians went after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, with his cavalry and army, and overtook them as they were encamped by the sea, by Pi-Hachirot, in front of Ba‘al-Tz’fon. 10 As Pharaoh approached, the people of Isra’el looked up and saw the Egyptians right there, coming after them. In great fear the people of Isra’el cried out to Adonai 11 and said to Moshe, “Was it because there weren’t enough graves in Egypt that you brought us out to die in the desert? Why have you done this to us, bringing us out of Egypt? 12 Didn’t we tell you in Egypt to let us alone, we’ll just go on being slaves for the Egyptians? It would be better for us to be the Egyptians’ slaves than to die in the desert!” 13 Moshe answered the people, “Stop being so fearful! Remain steady, and you will see how Adonai is going to save you. He will do it today — today you have seen the Egyptians, but you will never see them again! 14 Adonai will do battle for you. Just calm yourselves down!”
(A: iii) 15 Adonai asked Moshe, “Why are you crying to me? Tell the people of Isra’el to go forward! 16 Lift your staff, reach out with your hand over the sea, and divide it in two. The people of Isra’el will advance into the sea on dry ground. 17 As for me, I will make the Egyptians hardhearted; and they will march in after them; thus I will win glory for myself at the expense of Pharaoh and all his army, chariots and cavalry. 18 Then the Egyptians will realize that I am Adonai, when I have won myself glory at the expense of Pharaoh, his chariots and his cavalry.”
19 Next, the angel of God, who was going ahead of the camp of Isra’el, moved away and went behind them; and the column of cloud moved away from in front of them and stood behind them. 20 It stationed itself between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Isra’el — there was cloud and darkness here, but light by night there; so that the one did not come near the other all night long.
21 Moshe reached his hand out over the sea, and Adonai caused the sea to go back before a strong east wind all night. He made the sea become dry land, and its water was divided in two. 22 Then the people of Isra’el went into the sea on the dry ground, with the water walled up for them on their right and on their left.
23 The Egyptians continued their pursuit, going after them into the sea — all Pharaoh’s horses, chariots and cavalry. 24 Just before dawn, Adonai looked out on the Egyptian army through the column of fire and cloud and threw them into a panic. 25 He caused the wheels of their chariots to break off, so that they could move only with difficulty. The Egyptians said, “Adonai is fighting for Isra’el against the Egyptians! Let’s get away from them!”
(A: iv, S: iii) 26 Adonai said to Moshe, “Reach your hand out over the sea, and the water will return and cover the Egyptians with their chariots and cavalry.” 27 Moshe reached his hand out over the sea, and by dawn the sea had returned to its former depth. The Egyptians tried to flee, but Adonai swept them into the sea. 28 The water came back and covered all the chariots and cavalry of Pharaoh’s army who had followed them into the sea — not even one of them was left. 29 But the people of Isra’el walked on dry ground in the sea, with the water walled up for them on their right and on their left.
30 On that day, Adonai saved Isra’el from the Egyptians; Isra’el saw the Egyptians dead on the shore. 31 When Isra’el saw the mighty deed that Adonai had performed against the Egyptians, the people feared Adonai, and they believed in Adonai and in his servant Moshe.

Faraón persigue a los israelitas
14 El Señor habló a Moisés y le dijo: 2 «Di a los israelitas que den la vuelta[a] y acampen delante de Pi Hahirot, entre Migdol(A) y el mar. Ustedes acamparán frente a Baal Zefón(B), en el lado opuesto, junto al mar. 3 Porque Faraón dirá de los israelitas: “Andan vagando sin rumbo por la tierra. El desierto los ha encerrado”. 4 Pero Yo endureceré[b] el corazón de Faraón(C), y él los perseguirá(D). Y seré glorificado por medio de Faraón y de todo su ejército, y sabrán los egipcios que Yo soy el Señor(E)». Y así lo hicieron.
5 Cuando le anunciaron al rey de Egipto que el pueblo había huido, Faraón y sus siervos cambiaron de actitud[c] hacia el pueblo, y dijeron: «¿Qué es esto que hemos hecho, que hemos permitido que Israel se fuera y dejaran de servirnos?». 6 Faraón preparó su carro y tomó consigo a su gente. 7 Tomó 600 carros escogidos, y todos los demás carros de Egipto, con oficiales sobre todos ellos. 8 El Señor endureció[d] el corazón de Faraón(F), rey de Egipto, y este persiguió a los israelitas, pero estos habían salido[e] con mano fuerte[f](G). 9 Los egipcios los persiguieron con todos los caballos y carros de Faraón, su caballería(H) y su ejército, y los alcanzaron acampados junto al mar, junto a Pi Hahirot, frente a Baal Zefón(I).
10 Al acercarse Faraón, los israelitas alzaron los ojos, y vieron que los egipcios marchaban tras ellos. Entonces los israelitas tuvieron mucho miedo y clamaron al Señor(J). 11 Y dijeron a Moisés: «¿Acaso no había sepulcros en Egipto para que nos sacaras a morir en el desierto? ¿Por qué nos has tratado de esta manera, sacándonos[g] de Egipto(K)? 12 ¿No es esto lo que[h] te dijimos en Egipto: “Déjanos, para que sirvamos a los egipcios”? Porque mejor nos hubiera sido servir a los egipcios que morir en el desierto(L)».
13 Pero Moisés dijo al pueblo: «No teman; estén firmes y vean la salvación que el Señor hará hoy por ustedes(M). Porque los egipcios a quienes han visto hoy, no los volverán a ver jamás(N). 14 El Señor peleará por ustedes(O) mientras ustedes se quedan callados(P)».
15 Entonces dijo el Señor a Moisés: «¿Por qué clamas a Mí? Di a los israelitas que se pongan en marcha. 16 Y tú, levanta tu vara y extiende tu mano sobre el mar y divídelo. Y los israelitas pasarán[i] por en medio del mar, sobre tierra seca(Q). 17 Pero Yo endureceré[j] el corazón de los egipcios para que entren a perseguirlos. Me glorificaré en Faraón y en todo su ejército(R), en sus carros y en su caballería. 18 Entonces sabrán los egipcios que Yo soy el Señor(S), cuando sea glorificado en Faraón, en sus carros y en su caballería».
19 El ángel de Dios que había ido delante del campamento de Israel, se apartó, e iba detrás de ellos. La columna de nube(T) que había ido delante de ellos, se apartó, y se les puso detrás, 20 y vino a colocarse entre el campamento de Egipto y el campamento de Israel. La nube estaba junto con[k] las tinieblas. Sin embargo, de noche alumbraba a Israel, y en toda la noche no se acercaron los unos a los otros.
Paso del mar Rojo
21 Moisés extendió su mano sobre el mar(U), y el Señor, por medio de un fuerte viento del este que sopló toda la noche, hizo que el mar se retirara, y cambió el mar en tierra seca(V). Así quedaron divididas las aguas(W). 22 Los israelitas entraron por en medio del mar, en seco(X), y las aguas les eran como un muro a su derecha y a su izquierda(Y).
23 Entonces los egipcios reanudaron la persecución, y entraron tras ellos en medio del mar todos los caballos de Faraón, sus carros y sus jinetes(Z). 24 A la vigilia de la mañana (2 a 6 a.m.), el Señor miró el ejército de los egipcios desde[l] la columna de fuego y de nube(AA), y sembró la confusión en el ejército de los egipcios. 25 Y entorpeció[m] las ruedas de sus carros, e hizo que avanzaran con dificultad. Entonces los egipcios dijeron: «Huyamos ante Israel, porque el Señor pelea por ellos contra los egipcios(AB)».
Dios salva a su pueblo con poder
26 Entonces el Señor dijo a Moisés: «Extiende tu mano sobre el mar(AC) para que las aguas vuelvan sobre los egipcios, sobre sus carros y su caballería».
27 Y Moisés extendió su mano sobre el mar, y al amanecer, el mar regresó a su estado normal(AD), y los egipcios al huir se encontraban con él. Así derribó el Señor a los egipcios en medio del mar(AE). 28 Las aguas volvieron y cubrieron los carros y la caballería, a todo el ejército de Faraón que había entrado tras ellos en el mar. No quedó ni uno de ellos(AF).
29 Pero los israelitas pasaron en seco por en medio del mar, y las aguas les eran como un muro a su derecha y a su izquierda(AG). 30 Aquel día el Señor salvó a Israel de mano de los egipcios. Israel vio a los egipcios muertos a la orilla del mar(AH). 31 Cuando Israel vio el gran poder[n] que el Señor había usado[o] contra los egipcios, el pueblo temió[p] al Señor, y creyeron en el Señor(AI) y en Moisés, Su siervo.

Pharaoh in Pursuit
14 Now the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Tell the sons of Israel to turn back and camp in front of (A)Pi-hahiroth, between (B)Migdol and the sea; you shall camp in front of Baal-zephon, opposite it, by the sea. 3 For Pharaoh will say of the sons of Israel, ‘They are wandering aimlessly in the land; the wilderness has shut them in.’ 4 And (C)I will [a]harden Pharaoh’s heart, and (D)he will chase after them; and I will be honored through Pharaoh and all his army, and (E)the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord.” And they did so.
5 When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, [b]Pharaoh and his servants had a change of heart toward the people, and they said, “What is this that we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us?” 6 So he had horses harnessed to his chariot and took his people with him; 7 and he took six hundred select chariots, and all the other chariots of Egypt with officers over all of them. 8 So (F)the Lord [c]hardened the heart of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and he chased after the sons of Israel as the sons of Israel were going out [d](G)boldly. 9 Then (H)the Egyptians chased after them with all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen and his army, and they overtook them camping by the sea, (I)beside Pi-hahiroth, in front of Baal-zephon.
10 As Pharaoh approached, the sons of Israel [e]looked, and behold, the Egyptians were coming after them, and they became very frightened; (J)so the sons of Israel cried out to the Lord. 11 Then (K)they said to Moses, “Is it because there were no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you dealt with us in this way, [f]bringing us out of Egypt? 12 (L)Is this not the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, ‘[g]Leave us alone so that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness!”
The Sea Is Divided
13 But Moses said to the people, “(M)Do not fear! [h]Stand by and see (N)the salvation of the Lord, which He will perform for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again, ever. 14 (O)The Lord will fight for you, while (P)you keep silent.”
15 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the sons of Israel to go forward. 16 As for you, lift up (Q)your staff and reach out with your hand over the sea and divide it, and the sons of Israel shall [i]go through the midst of the sea on dry land. 17 And as for Me, behold, (R)I will [j]harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them; and I will be honored through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. 18 (S)Then the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord, when I am honored through Pharaoh, through his chariots, and through his horsemen.”
19 Then (T)the angel of God, who had been going before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from before them and stood behind them. 20 So it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; and there was the cloud [k]along with the darkness, yet it gave light at night. Therefore the one did not approach the other all night.
21 (U)Then Moses reached out with his hand over the sea; and the Lord [l]swept the sea back by a strong east wind all night, and turned the sea into (V)dry land, and (W)the waters were divided. 22 So (X)the sons of Israel [m]went through the midst of the sea on the dry land, and (Y)the waters were like a wall to them on their right and on their left. 23 Then (Z)the Egyptians took up the pursuit, and all Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen went in after them into the midst of the sea. 24 But at the morning watch, (AA)the Lord looked down on the [n]army of the Egyptians [o]through the pillar of fire and cloud, and brought the [p]army of the Egyptians into confusion. 25 He [q]caused their chariot wheels to swerve, and He made them drive with difficulty; so the Egyptians each said, “Let me flee from Israel, (AB)for the Lord is fighting for them against the Egyptians.”
26 Then the Lord said to Moses, “(AC)Reach out with your hand over the sea so that the waters may come back over the Egyptians, over their chariots and their horsemen.” 27 So Moses reached out with his hand over the sea, and (AD)the sea returned to its normal state at daybreak, while the Egyptians were fleeing [r]right into it; then the Lord [s](AE)overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. 28 The waters returned and covered the chariots and the horsemen, Pharaoh’s entire army that had gone into the sea after them; (AF)not even one of them remained. 29 But the sons of Israel walked on (AG)dry land through the midst of the sea, and the waters were like a wall to them on their right and on their left.
30 (AH)So the Lord saved Israel that day from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel (AI)saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. 31 When Israel saw the great [t]power which the Lord had [u]used against the Egyptians, the people [v]feared the Lord, and (AJ)they believed in the Lord and in His servant Moses.
