The surging waters stood up like a wall;^(C)
    the deep waters congealed in the heart of the sea.^(D)
9 The enemy boasted,
    ‘I will pursue,^(E) I will overtake them.
I will divide the spoils;^(F)
    I will gorge myself on them.
I will draw my sword
    and my hand will destroy them.’
¹⁰ But you blew with your breath,^(G)
    and the sea covered them.
They sank like lead
    in the mighty waters.^(H)

⁹ Awake, awake,^(A) arm^(B) of the Lord,
    clothe yourself with strength!^(C)
Awake, as in days gone by,
    as in generations of old.^(D)
Was it not you who cut Rahab^(E) to pieces,
    who pierced that monster^(F) through?
¹⁰ Was it not you who dried up the sea,^(G)
    the waters of the great deep,^(H)
who made a road in the depths of the sea^(I)
    so that the redeemed^(J) might cross over?

⁸ You transplanted a vine^(A) from Egypt;
    you drove out^(B) the nations and planted^(C) it.
⁹ You cleared the ground for it,
    and it took root and filled the land.
¹⁰ The mountains were covered with its shade,
    the mighty cedars with its branches.
