The Firstborn Consecrated
13 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 (A)“Consecrate[a] to Me all the firstborn, whatever opens the womb among the children of Israel, both of man and beast; it is Mine.”
The Feast of Unleavened Bread(B)
3 And Moses said to the people: (C)“Remember this day in which you went out of Egypt, out of the house of [b]bondage; for (D)by strength of hand the Lord brought you out of this place. (E)No leavened bread shall be eaten. 4 (F)On this day you are going out, in the month Abib. 5 And it shall be, when the Lord (G)brings you into the (H)land of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, which He (I)swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, (J)that you shall keep this service in this month. 6 (K)Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be a feast to the Lord. 7 Unleavened bread shall be eaten seven days. And (L)no leavened bread shall be seen among you, nor shall leaven be seen among you in all your quarters. 8 And you shall (M)tell your son in that day, saying, ‘This is done because of what the Lord did for me when I came up from Egypt.’ 9 It shall be as (N)a sign to you on your hand and as a memorial between your eyes, that the Lord’s law may be in your mouth; for with a strong hand the Lord has brought you out of Egypt. 10 (O)You shall therefore keep this [c]ordinance in its season from year to year.
The Law of the Firstborn
11 “And it shall be, when the Lord (P)brings you into the land of the (Q)Canaanites, as He swore to you and your fathers, and gives it to you, 12 (R)that you shall [d]set apart to the Lord all that open the womb, that is, every firstborn that comes from an animal which you have; the males shall be the Lord’s. 13 But (S)every firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb; and if you will not redeem it, then you shall break its neck. And all the firstborn of man among your sons (T)you shall redeem. 14 (U)So it shall be, when your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What is this?’ that you shall say to him, (V)‘By strength of hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 15 And it came to pass, when Pharaoh was stubborn about letting us go, that (W)the Lord killed all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man and the firstborn of beast. Therefore I sacrifice to the Lord all males that open the womb, but all the firstborn of my sons I redeem.’ 16 It shall be as (X)a sign on your hand and as frontlets between your eyes, for by strength of hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt.”
The Wilderness Way(Y)
17 Then it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, “Lest perhaps the people (Z)change their minds when they see war, and (AA)return to Egypt.” 18 So God (AB)led the people around by way of the wilderness of the Red Sea. And the children of Israel went up in orderly ranks out of the land of Egypt.
19 And Moses took the (AC)bones of (AD)Joseph with him, for he had placed the children of Israel under solemn oath, saying, (AE)“God will surely [e]visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here with you.”
20 So (AF)they took their journey from (AG)Succoth and camped in Etham at the edge of the wilderness. 21 And (AH)the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night. 22 He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from before the people.

13 El Señor se dirigió a Moisés y le dijo:
2 «Conságrame los hijos mayores, porque todo primer hijo de los israelitas me pertenece, lo mismo que toda primera cría de sus animales.»
3 Entonces Moisés le dijo al pueblo: «Acuérdense de este día, en que con gran poder el Señor los sacó de Egipto, donde vivían como esclavos. No deberán comer pan con levadura. 4 Ustedes salen este día, en el mes de Abib, 5 y en este mismo mes deberán celebrar la fiesta, una vez que el Señor los haya llevado a la tierra donde la leche y la miel corren como el agua, es decir, al país de los cananeos, hititas, amorreos, heveos y jebuseos, que ya había prometido a sus antepasados que se lo daría a ustedes. 6 Comerán pan sin levadura durante siete días, y en el séptimo día harán fiesta en honor del Señor. 7 Durante los siete días se comerá pan sin levadura, y en ninguna parte de su territorio deberá haber levadura o pan con levadura. 8 En ese día les dirán a sus hijos: “Esto se hace por lo que el Señor hizo con nosotros cuando salimos de Egipto. 9 Y, como si tuvieran ustedes una marca en el brazo o en la frente, esto les hará recordar que siempre deben hablar de la ley del Señor, pues él los sacó de Egipto con gran poder. 10 Por eso deben celebrar esta ceremonia año tras año, en la fecha señalada.”
11 »Cuando el Señor los haya llevado al país de los cananeos, es decir, cuando les entregue el país, según la promesa que les hizo a ustedes y a sus antepasados, 12 tendrán que dedicarle todos sus primeros hijos varones y todos los primeros machos que les nazcan a sus animales, porque pertenecen al Señor. 13 En el caso de la primera cría de una asna, deberán dar un cordero o un cabrito como rescate por el asno, pero si no dan el cordero, entonces le romperán el cuello al asno. También deberán dar una ofrenda como rescate por cada hijo mayor, 14 y cuando el día de mañana sus hijos les pregunten: “¿Qué quiere decir esto?”, les responderán: “El Señor nos sacó con gran poder de Egipto, donde vivíamos como esclavos. 15 Cuando el faraón se puso terco en no dejarnos salir, el Señor hirió de muerte al hijo mayor de cada familia egipcia y a todas las primeras crías de sus animales; por eso le ofrecemos al Señor todos los machos que nacen primero, y damos una ofrenda como rescate por nuestro hijo mayor. 16 Por lo tanto, como si tuvieran una marca en el brazo o en la frente, esta ceremonia les hará recordar a ustedes que el Señor nos sacó de Egipto con gran poder.”»
La columna de nube y de fuego
17 Cuando el faraón dejó salir al pueblo israelita, Dios no los llevó por el camino que va al país de los filisteos, que era el más directo, pues pensó que los israelitas no querrían pelear cuando tuvieran que hacerlo, y que preferirían regresar a Egipto. 18 Por eso les hizo dar un rodeo por el camino del desierto que lleva al Mar Rojo.
Los israelitas salieron de Egipto formados como un ejército. 19 Moisés se llevó consigo los restos de José, pues José había hecho que los hijos de Israel le prometieran hacerlo así. Les había dicho: «En verdad, Dios vendrá a ayudarlos; y cuando eso suceda, ustedes deben llevarse mis restos de aquí.»
20 Los israelitas salieron de Sucot y acamparon en Etam, donde comienza el desierto. 21 De día, el Señor los acompañaba en una columna de nube, para señalarles el camino; y de noche, en una columna de fuego, para alumbrarlos. Así pudieron viajar día y noche. 22 La columna de nube siempre iba delante de ellos durante el día, y la columna de fuego durante la noche.

Consecration of the Firstborn
13 The Lord said to Moses, 2 (A)“Consecrate to me all the firstborn. Whatever is the first to open the womb among the people of Israel, both of man and of beast, is mine.”

11 “When the Lord brings you into the land of the Canaanites, (P)as he swore to you and your fathers, and shall give it to you, 12 (Q)you shall set apart to the Lord all that first opens the womb. All the firstborn of your animals that are males shall be the Lord's. 13 (R)Every firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb, or if you will not redeem it you shall break its neck. Every (S)firstborn of man among your sons you shall redeem. 14 (T)And when in time to come your son asks you, ‘What does this mean?’ you shall say to him, (U)‘By a strong hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, from the house of (V)slavery. 15 For when Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, the (W)Lord killed all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man and the firstborn of animals. Therefore I sacrifice to the Lord all the males that first open the womb, but (X)all the firstborn of my sons I redeem.’ 16 (Y)It shall be as a mark on your hand or frontlets between your eyes, for (Z)by a strong hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt.”
Pillars of Cloud and Fire
17 When Pharaoh let the people go, God did (AA)not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near. For God said, “Lest the people (AB)change their minds when they see war and return to Egypt.” 18 But God (AC)led the people around by the way of the wilderness toward the Red Sea. And the people of Israel went up out of the land of Egypt equipped for battle. 19 Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for Joseph[a] had made the sons of Israel solemnly swear, saying, (AD)“God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones with you from here.” 20 And (AE)they moved on from Succoth and encamped at Etham, on the edge of the wilderness. 21 And (AF)the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night. 22 The pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night did not depart from before the people.
