The Eighth Plague: Locusts(A)
10 Now the Lord said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh; (B)for I have hardened his heart and the hearts of his servants, (C)that I may show these signs of Mine before him, 2 and that (D)you may tell in the hearing of your son and your son’s son the mighty things I have done in Egypt, and My signs which I have done among them, that you may (E)know that I am the Lord.”
3 So Moses and Aaron came in to Pharaoh and said to him, “Thus says the Lord God of the Hebrews: ‘How long will you refuse to (F)humble yourself before Me? Let My people go, that they may (G)serve Me. 4 Or else, if you refuse to let My people go, behold, tomorrow I will bring (H)locusts into your territory. 5 And they shall cover the face of the earth, so that no one will be able to see the earth; and (I)they shall eat the residue of what is left, which remains to you from the hail, and they shall eat every tree which grows up for you out of the field. 6 They shall (J)fill your houses, the houses of all your servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians—which neither your fathers nor your fathers’ fathers have seen, since the day that they were on the earth to this day.’ ” And he turned and went out from Pharaoh.
7 Then Pharaoh’s (K)servants said to him, “How long shall this man be (L)a snare to us? Let the men go, that they may serve the Lord their God. Do you not yet know that Egypt is destroyed?”
8 So Moses and Aaron were brought again to Pharaoh, and he said to them, “Go, serve the Lord your God. Who are the ones that are going?”
9 And Moses said, “We will go with our young and our old; with our sons and our daughters, with our flocks and our herds we will go, for (M)we must hold a feast to the Lord.”
10 Then he said to them, “The Lord had better be with you when I let you and your little ones go! Beware, for evil is ahead of you. 11 Not so! Go now, you who are men, and serve the Lord, for that is what you desired.” And they were driven (N)out from Pharaoh’s presence.
12 Then the Lord said to Moses, (O)“Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come upon the land of Egypt, and (P)eat every herb of the land—all that the hail has left.” 13 So Moses stretched out his rod over the land of Egypt, and the Lord brought an east wind on the land all that day and all that night. When it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts. 14 And (Q)the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt and rested on all the territory of Egypt. They were very severe; (R)previously there had been no such locusts as they, nor shall there be such after them. 15 For they (S)covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened; and they (T)ate every herb of the land and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left. So there remained nothing green on the trees or on the plants of the field throughout all the land of Egypt.
16 Then Pharaoh called (U)for Moses and Aaron in haste, and said, (V)“I have sinned against the Lord your God and against you. 17 Now therefore, please forgive my sin only this once, and (W)entreat[a] the Lord your God, that He may take away from me this death only.” 18 So he (X)went out from Pharaoh and entreated the Lord. 19 And the Lord turned a very strong west wind, which took the locusts away and blew them (Y)into the Red Sea. There remained not one locust in all the territory of Egypt. 20 But the Lord (Z)hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not let the children of Israel go.
The Ninth Plague: Darkness
21 Then the Lord said to Moses, (AA)“Stretch out your hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, [b]darkness which may even be felt.” 22 So Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven, and there was (AB)thick darkness in all the land of Egypt (AC)three days. 23 They did not see one another; nor did anyone rise from his place for three days. (AD)But all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.
24 Then Pharaoh called to Moses and (AE)said, “Go, serve the Lord; only let your flocks and your herds be kept back. Let your (AF)little ones also go with you.”
25 But Moses said, “You must also give [c]us sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God. 26 Our (AG)livestock also shall go with us; not a hoof shall be left behind. For we must take some of them to serve the Lord our God, and even we do not know with what we must serve the Lord until we arrive there.”
27 But the Lord (AH)hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he would not let them go. 28 Then Pharaoh said to him, (AI)“Get away from me! Take heed to yourself and see my face no more! For in the day you see my face you shall die!”
29 So Moses said, “You have spoken well. (AJ)I will never see your face again.”

Let my people go, that they may serve me. 4 For if you refuse to let my people go, behold, tomorrow I will bring (D)locusts into your country, 5 and they shall cover the face of the land, so that no one can see the land. 7 Then Pharaoh's servants said to him, “How long shall this man be a snare to us? Let the men go, that they may serve the Lord their God. Do you not yet understand that Egypt is ruined?” 8 So Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh. And he said to them, (G)“Go, serve the Lord your God. But which ones are to go?” 9 Moses said, “We will go with our young and our old. We will go with our sons and daughters and with our flocks and herds, for (H)we must hold a feast to the Lord.” 10 But he said to them, “The Lord be with you, if ever I let you and your (I)little ones go! Look, you have some evil purpose in mind.[a] 11 No! Go, the men among you, and serve the Lord, for that is what you are asking.” And they were driven out from Pharaoh's presence.
12 Then the Lord said to Moses, (J)“Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, so that they may come upon the land of Egypt and (K)eat every plant in the land, all that the hail has left.” 13 So Moses stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and the Lord brought an east wind upon the land all that day and all that night. When it was morning, the east wind had brought the locusts. 14 (L)The locusts came up over all the land of Egypt and settled on the whole country of Egypt, (M)such a dense swarm of locusts as had never been before, nor ever will be again. 15 They covered the face of the whole land, so that the land was darkened, and (N)they ate all the plants in the land and all the fruit of the trees that the hail had left. Not a green thing remained, neither tree nor plant of the field, through all the land of Egypt. 16 Then Pharaoh hastily called Moses and Aaron and said, (O)“I have sinned against the Lord your God, and against you. 17 Now therefore, forgive my sin, please, only this once, and (P)plead with the Lord your God only to remove this death from me.” 18 So (Q)he went out from Pharaoh and pleaded with the Lord. 19 And the Lord turned the wind into a very strong west wind, which lifted the locusts and drove them (R)into the Red Sea. Not a single locust was left in all the country of Egypt. 20 But the Lord (S)hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he did not let the people of Israel go.
The Ninth Plague: Darkness
21 Then the Lord said to Moses, (T)“Stretch out your hand toward heaven, that there may be (U)darkness over the land of Egypt, a darkness to be felt.” 22 So Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven, and there was pitch darkness in all the land of Egypt three days. 23 They did not see one another, nor did anyone rise from his place for three days, but (V)all the people of Israel had light where they lived. 24 Then Pharaoh called Moses and said, (W)“Go, serve the Lord; (X)your little ones also may go with you; only let your flocks and your herds remain behind.” 25 But Moses said, “You must also let us have sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God. 26 Our livestock also must go with us; not a hoof shall be left behind, for we must take of them to serve the Lord our God, and we do not know with what we must serve the Lord until we arrive there.” 27 But the Lord (Y)hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he would not let them go. 28 Then Pharaoh said to him, “Get away from me; take care never to see my face again, for on the day you see my face you shall die.” 29 Moses said, “As you say! (Z)I will not see your face again.”

10 Jehová dijo a Moisés: Entra a la presencia de Faraón; porque yo he endurecido su corazón, y el corazón de sus siervos, para mostrar entre ellos estas mis señales, 2 y para que cuentes a tus hijos y a tus nietos las cosas que yo hice en Egipto, y mis señales que hice entre ellos; para que sepáis que yo soy Jehová. 3 Entonces vinieron Moisés y Aarón a Faraón, y le dijeron: Jehová el Dios de los hebreos ha dicho así: ¿Hasta cuándo no querrás humillarte delante de mí? Deja ir a mi pueblo, para que me sirva. 4 Y si aún rehúsas dejarlo ir, he aquí que mañana yo traeré sobre tu territorio la langosta, 5 la cual cubrirá la faz de la tierra, de modo que no pueda verse la tierra; y ella comerá lo que escapó, lo que os quedó del granizo; comerá asimismo todo árbol que os fructifica en el campo. 6 Y llenará tus casas, y las casas de todos tus siervos, y las casas de todos los egipcios, cual nunca vieron tus padres ni tus abuelos, desde que ellos fueron sobre la tierra hasta hoy. Y se volvió y salió de delante de Faraón. 7 Entonces los siervos de Faraón le dijeron: ¿Hasta cuándo será este hombre un lazo para nosotros? Deja ir a estos hombres, para que sirvan a Jehová su Dios. ¿Acaso no sabes todavía que Egipto está ya destruido? 8 Y Moisés y Aarón volvieron a ser llamados ante Faraón, el cual les dijo: Andad, servid a Jehová vuestro Dios. ¿Quiénes son los que han de ir? 9 Moisés respondió: Hemos de ir con nuestros niños y con nuestros viejos, con nuestros hijos y con nuestras hijas; con nuestras ovejas y con nuestras vacas hemos de ir; porque es nuestra fiesta solemne para Jehová. 10 Y él les dijo: ¡Así sea Jehová con vosotros! ¿Cómo os voy a dejar ir a vosotros y a vuestros niños? ¡Mirad cómo el mal está delante de vuestro rostro! 11 No será así; id ahora vosotros los varones, y servid a Jehová, pues esto es lo que vosotros pedisteis. Y los echaron de la presencia de Faraón.
12 Entonces Jehová dijo a Moisés: Extiende tu mano sobre la tierra de Egipto para traer la langosta, a fin de que suba sobre el país de Egipto, y consuma todo lo que el granizo dejó. 13 Y extendió Moisés su vara sobre la tierra de Egipto, y Jehová trajo un viento oriental sobre el país todo aquel día y toda aquella noche; y al venir la mañana el viento oriental trajo la langosta. 14 Y subió la langosta sobre toda la tierra de Egipto, y se asentó en todo el país de Egipto en tan gran cantidad como no la hubo antes ni la habrá después; 15 y cubrió la faz de todo el país, y oscureció la tierra;(A) y consumió toda la hierba de la tierra, y todo el fruto de los árboles que había dejado el granizo; no quedó cosa verde en árboles ni en hierba del campo, en toda la tierra de Egipto.
16 Entonces Faraón se apresuró a llamar a Moisés y a Aarón, y dijo: He pecado contra Jehová vuestro Dios, y contra vosotros. 17 Mas os ruego ahora que perdonéis mi pecado solamente esta vez, y que oréis a Jehová vuestro Dios que quite de mí al menos esta plaga mortal. 18 Y salió Moisés de delante de Faraón, y oró a Jehová. 19 Entonces Jehová trajo un fortísimo viento occidental, y quitó la langosta y la arrojó en el Mar Rojo; ni una langosta quedó en todo el país de Egipto. 20 Pero Jehová endureció el corazón de Faraón, y este no dejó ir a los hijos de Israel.
La plaga de tinieblas
21 Jehová dijo a Moisés: Extiende tu mano hacia el cielo, para que haya tinieblas(B) sobre la tierra de Egipto, tanto que cualquiera las palpe. 22 Y extendió Moisés su mano hacia el cielo, y hubo densas tinieblas sobre toda la tierra de Egipto, por tres días. 23 Ninguno vio a su prójimo, ni nadie se levantó de su lugar en tres días; mas todos los hijos de Israel tenían luz en sus habitaciones. 24 Entonces Faraón hizo llamar a Moisés, y dijo: Id, servid a Jehová; solamente queden vuestras ovejas y vuestras vacas; vayan también vuestros niños con vosotros. 25 Y Moisés respondió: Tú también nos darás sacrificios y holocaustos que sacrifiquemos para Jehová nuestro Dios. 26 Nuestros ganados irán también con nosotros; no quedará ni una pezuña; porque de ellos hemos de tomar para servir a Jehová nuestro Dios, y no sabemos con qué hemos de servir a Jehová hasta que lleguemos allá. 27 Pero Jehová endureció el corazón de Faraón, y no quiso dejarlos ir. 28 Y le dijo Faraón: Retírate de mí; guárdate que no veas más mi rostro, porque en cualquier día que vieres mi rostro, morirás. 29 Y Moisés respondió: Bien has dicho; no veré más tu rostro.

2 and so that you may declare in the ears of your son, and of your son’s son, what things I have done in Egypt and My miracles which I have done among them. So that you may know that I am the LORD.”
3 Then Moses and Aaron came to Pharaoh. And they said to him, “Thus says the LORD God of the Hebrews: ‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people go, so that they may serve Me.
4 ‘But if you refuse to let My people go, behold, tomorrow I will bring locusts into your territory.
5 ‘And they shall cover the face of the Earth, so that a man cannot see the Earth. And they shall eat the residue which remains to you and has escaped from the hail. And they shall eat all your trees that bud in the field.
6 ‘And they shall fill your houses, and all your servants’ houses, and the houses of all the Egyptians, as neither your fathers nor your fathers’ fathers have seen since the time they were upon the Earth until this day.’” So, he returned and went out from Pharaoh.
7 Then, Pharaoh’s servants said to him, “How long shall he be a snare to us? Let the men go, so that they may serve the LORD their God. Do you still not know that Egypt is destroyed?”
8 So, Moses and Aaron were again brought to Pharaoh. And he said to them, “Go. Serve the LORD your God. But who are those who shall go?”
9 And Moses answered, “We will go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters. With our sheep and with our cattle will we go. For we must celebrate a feast to the LORD.”
10 And he said to them, “Let the LORD so be with you, as I will let you and your children go. But behold, evil is ahead of you.
11 “Not so. Now go, you men, and serve the LORD. For that was your desire.” Then they were thrust out from Pharaoh’s presence.
12 Afterward, the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand upon the land of Egypt for the locusts, so that they may come upon the land of Egypt and eat all the herbs of the land.” (all that the hail had left)
13 Then Moses stretched forth his rod upon the land of Egypt. And the LORD brought an east wind upon the land all that day and all that night. And in the morning, the east wind brought the locusts.
14 So the locusts went up upon all the land of Egypt and remained in all quarters of Egypt. There have never been such grievous locusts as these, nor shall there be after them.
15 For they covered all the face of the Earth, so that the land was dark. And they ate all the herbs of the land, and all the fruits of the trees, which the hail had left, so that there was no green thing left upon the trees, nor among the herbs of the field, throughout all the land of Egypt.
16 Therefore, Pharaoh quickly called for Moses and Aaron, and said, “I have sinned against the LORD your God, and against you.
17 “And now, forgive my sin only this once, and pray to the LORD your God, only so that He may take away from me this death.”
18 Then Moses went out from Pharaoh and prayed to the LORD.
19 And the LORD turned a mighty strong west wind, and took away the locusts, and violently cast them into the Red Sea. There remained not one locust in all the land of Egypt.
20 But the LORD hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not let the children of Israel go.
21 Again the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward Heaven, so that darkness may be upon the land of Egypt, even darkness that may be felt.”
22 Then, Moses stretched forth his hand toward Heaven; and there was a black darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days.
23 No one saw another, nor rose up from the place where he was, for three days. But all the children of Israel had light where they dwelt.
24 Then Pharaoh called for Moses, and said, “Go serve the LORD. Only your sheep and your cattle shall remain; and your children shall go with you.”
25 And Moses said, “You must also give us sacrifices and burnt offerings, so that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God.
26 “Therefore, our cattle shall go with us also. There shall not be a hoof left. For we must take from them to serve the LORD our God. Nor do we know how we shall serve the LORD until we get there.”
27 But the LORD hardened Pharaoh’s heart; and he would not let them go.
28 And Pharaoh said to him, “Get away from me! Be careful that you see my face no more. For whenever you come into my sight, you shall die!”
29 Then Moses said, “You have said well. I will never see your face again.”

The Plague of Locusts
10 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart(A) and the hearts of his officials so that I may perform these signs(B) of mine among them 2 that you may tell your children(C) and grandchildren how I dealt harshly(D) with the Egyptians and how I performed my signs among them, and that you may know that I am the Lord.”(E)
3 So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said to him, “This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: ‘How long will you refuse to humble(F) yourself before me? Let my people go, so that they may worship me. 4 If you refuse(G) to let them go, I will bring locusts(H) into your country tomorrow. 5 They will cover the face of the ground so that it cannot be seen. They will devour what little you have left(I) after the hail, including every tree that is growing in your fields.(J) 6 They will fill your houses(K) and those of all your officials and all the Egyptians—something neither your parents nor your ancestors have ever seen from the day they settled in this land till now.’”(L) Then Moses turned and left Pharaoh.
7 Pharaoh’s officials said to him, “How long will this man be a snare(M) to us? Let the people go, so that they may worship the Lord their God. Do you not yet realize that Egypt is ruined?”(N)
8 Then Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh. “Go, worship(O) the Lord your God,” he said. “But tell me who will be going.”
9 Moses answered, “We will go with our young and our old, with our sons and our daughters, and with our flocks and herds, because we are to celebrate a festival(P) to the Lord.”
10 Pharaoh said, “The Lord be with you—if I let you go, along with your women and children! Clearly you are bent on evil.[a] 11 No! Have only the men go and worship the Lord, since that’s what you have been asking for.” Then Moses and Aaron were driven out of Pharaoh’s presence.
12 And the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand(Q) over Egypt so that locusts swarm over the land and devour everything growing in the fields, everything left by the hail.”
13 So Moses stretched out his staff(R) over Egypt, and the Lord made an east wind blow across the land all that day and all that night. By morning the wind had brought the locusts;(S) 14 they invaded all Egypt and settled down in every area of the country in great numbers. Never before had there been such a plague of locusts,(T) nor will there ever be again. 15 They covered all the ground until it was black. They devoured(U) all that was left after the hail—everything growing in the fields and the fruit on the trees. Nothing green remained on tree or plant in all the land of Egypt.
16 Pharaoh quickly summoned(V) Moses and Aaron and said, “I have sinned(W) against the Lord your God and against you. 17 Now forgive(X) my sin once more and pray(Y) to the Lord your God to take this deadly plague away from me.”
18 Moses then left Pharaoh and prayed to the Lord.(Z) 19 And the Lord changed the wind to a very strong west wind, which caught up the locusts and carried them into the Red Sea.[b] Not a locust was left anywhere in Egypt. 20 But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart,(AA) and he would not let the Israelites go.
The Plague of Darkness
21 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the sky so that darkness(AB) spreads over Egypt—darkness that can be felt.” 22 So Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and total darkness(AC) covered all Egypt for three days. 23 No one could see anyone else or move about for three days. Yet all the Israelites had light in the places where they lived.(AD)
24 Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and said, “Go,(AE) worship the Lord. Even your women and children(AF) may go with you; only leave your flocks and herds behind.”(AG)
25 But Moses said, “You must allow us to have sacrifices and burnt offerings(AH) to present to the Lord our God. 26 Our livestock too must go with us; not a hoof is to be left behind. We have to use some of them in worshiping the Lord our God, and until we get there we will not know what we are to use to worship the Lord.”
27 But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart,(AI) and he was not willing to let them go. 28 Pharaoh said to Moses, “Get out of my sight! Make sure you do not appear before me again! The day you see my face you will die.”
29 “Just as you say,” Moses replied. “I will never appear(AJ) before you again.”
