New American Standard Bible
The Plague of Insects
16 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Extend your staff and strike the dust of the earth, so that it may turn into [a]gnats through all the land of Egypt.’” 17 They did so; and Aaron extended his hand with his staff and struck the dust of the earth, and there were [b]gnats on every [c]person and animal. All the dust of the earth turned into [d](A)gnats through all the land of Egypt. 18 The soothsayer priests tried with their secret arts to produce [e]gnats, but (B)they could not; so there were [f]gnats on every person and animal. 19 Then the soothsayer priests said to Pharaoh, “(C)This is the finger of God.” But Pharaoh’s heart was [g]hardened, and he did not listen to them, just as the Lord had said.

The Plague of Gnats
16 Then the Lord told Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Stretch out your staff, strike the dust of the ground, and the dust[a] will become gnats throughout the land of Egypt.’” 17 They did this.[b] Aaron stretched his hand out with his staff, struck the dust of the land, and gnats came on people and animals—all the dust of the ground became gnats throughout the land of Egypt. 18 The magicians tried[c] to do the same thing[d] with their secret arts, but they were unable to bring out the gnats. The gnats were on the people and the animals.
19 The magicians told Pharaoh, “It is the finger of God!”[e] But Pharaoh’s heart was stubborn[f] and he did not listen to them, just as the Lord had predicted.

The Plague of Gnats
16 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Stretch out your staff(A) and strike the dust of the ground,’ and throughout the land of Egypt the dust will become gnats.” 17 They did this, and when Aaron stretched out his hand with the staff and struck the dust of the ground, gnats(B) came on people and animals. All the dust throughout the land of Egypt became gnats. 18 But when the magicians(C) tried to produce gnats by their secret arts,(D) they could not.
Since the gnats were on people and animals everywhere, 19 the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger(E) of God.” But Pharaoh’s heart(F) was hard and he would not listen,(G) just as the Lord had said.
