The Priestly Garments

28 “Have your brother Aaron, with his sons, come to you from the Israelites to serve me as priest—Aaron, his sons Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.^(A)

⁶ Then Moses said to Aaron and his sons Eleazar and Ithamar,^(A) “Do not let your hair hang loose^(B) and do not tear your clothes,^(C) or else you will die, and the Lord will become angry^(D) with the whole community. However, your brothers, the whole house of Israel, may weep^(E) over the fire that the Lord caused.

¹² Moses spoke to Aaron and his remaining sons, Eleazar and Ithamar: “Take the grain offering that is left over from the food offerings^(A) to the Lord, and eat it prepared without yeast beside the altar, because it is especially holy.

¹⁶ Then Moses inquired carefully about the male goat of the sin offering, but it had already been burned up. He was angry with Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s surviving sons, and asked,

² These are the names of Aaron’s sons: Nadab, the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

⁴ But Nadab and Abihu died in the Lord’s presence when they presented unauthorized fire^(A) before the Lord in the Wilderness of Sinai, and they had no sons. So Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests under the direction of Aaron their father.^(B)

³² The chief of the Levite leaders was Eleazar^(A) son of Aaron the priest; he had oversight of those responsible for the duties of the sanctuary.

¹⁶ “Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, has oversight of the lamp oil,^(A) the fragrant incense,^(B) the daily grain offering,^(C) and the anointing oil.^(D) He has oversight of the entire tabernacle and everything in it, the holy objects and their utensils.”^[a]

³⁷ “Tell Eleazar son of Aaron the priest to remove the firepans from the burning debris, because they are holy, and scatter the fire far away.
