^21 (A)And they said to them, “^(B)May Yahweh look upon you and judge, for you have ^(C)made ^[a]us a foul smell in Pharaoh’s sight and in the sight of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us.”

¹¹ Then ^(A)they said to Moses, “Is it because there were no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What is this you have done against us in ^[a]bringing us out of Egypt?

²⁴ So the people ^(A)grumbled at Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?”

² And the whole congregation of the sons of Israel ^(A)grumbled against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.

² Therefore the people ^(A)contended with Moses and said, “Give us water that we may drink.” And Moses said to them, “^(B)Why do you contend with me? ^(C)Why do you test Yahweh?” ³ But the people thirsted there for water; and ^[a]they ^(D)grumbled against Moses and said, “Why, now, have you brought us up from Egypt, to put ^[b]us and ^[c]our children and ^[d](E)our livestock to death with thirst?”

The Golden Calf

32 Then the people saw that Moses ^(A)delayed to come down from the mountain. So the people assembled about Aaron and said to him, “Arise, ^(B)make us ^[a]gods who will go before us; as for ^(C)this Moses, the man who brought us up from the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.”

The People Complain

11 Now the people became like ^(A)those who complain of calamity ^(B)in the ears of Yahweh. And Yahweh heard it and His anger was kindled, and the fire of Yahweh burned among them and consumed some of the outskirts of the camp.

⁴ And the ^(A)rabble who were among them ^[a]had greedy desires; and also the sons of Israel wept again and said, “^(B)Who will give us ^[b]meat to eat?

Miriam and Aaron Speak Against Moses

12 Then Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he had taken as a wife (for he had taken a ^(A)Cushite woman);
