Exodus 33:2-4 Lexham English Bible (LEB)

And I will send an angel before you, and I will drive out the Canaanites,[a] the Amorites,[b] and the Hittites[c] and the Perizzites,[d] the Hivites,[e] and the Jebusites,[f] Go to a land flowing with milk and honey, but I will not go up among you, because you are a stiff-necked people, lest I destroy you on the way.” And the people heard this troubling[g] word, and they mourned, and they each did not put their ornaments on themselves.

I will send an angel before you and drive out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. Go up to the land flowing with milk and honey. But I will not go with you, because you are a stiff-necked people and I might destroy you on the way.”

When the people heard these distressing words, they began to mourn and no one put on any ornaments.
