²³ “Take also for yourself the finest of spices: of liquid myrrh ^[a]five hundred shekels, and of fragrant cinnamon half as much, 250, and of fragrant cane 250, ²⁴ and of cassia 500, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, and of olive oil a ^[b]hin. ²⁵ You shall make ^[c]from these a holy anointing oil, a fragrant mixture of ointments, the work of a perfumer; it shall be ^(A)a holy anointing oil. ²⁶ And ^(B)you shall anoint the tent of meeting with it, and the ark of the testimony, ²⁷ and the table and all its utensils, and the lampstand and its utensils, and the altar of incense, ²⁸ and the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and the basin and its stand. ²⁹ You shall also consecrate them, so that they may be most holy; whatever touches them shall be holy. ³⁰ And ^(C)you shall anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them, so that they may serve as priests to Me. ³¹ Furthermore, you shall speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘This shall be a holy anointing oil to Me throughout your generations. ³² It shall not be poured on ^[d]anyone’s body, nor shall you make any like it in ^[e]the same proportions; ^(D)it is holy, and it shall be holy to you. ^33 (E)Whoever mixes any like it or whoever puts any of it on a ^[f]layman ^[g](F)shall be cut off from his people.’”

¹³ So Samuel took the horn of oil and ^(A)anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and ^(B)the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel set out and went to Ramah.

³ Then take the flask of oil and pour it on his head, and say, ‘This is what the Lord says: “^(A)I have anointed you king over Israel.”’ Then open the door and flee, and do not wait.”

⁶ He then got up and went into the house, and the prophet’s servant poured the oil on his head and said to him, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel says: ‘^(A)I have anointed you king over the people of the Lord, over Israel.
