¹⁸ Moses entered the midst of the cloud ^[a]as he went up to the mountain; and Moses was on the mountain ^(A)forty days and forty nights.

²⁸ So he was there with the Lord ^(A)forty days and forty nights; he did not eat bread or drink water. And ^[a](B)he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, ^(C)the Ten ^[b]Commandments.

³ He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you ^[a]understand that ^(A)man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord.

^18 (A)I fell down before the Lord, ^(B)as at the first, forty days and nights; ^(C)I neither ate bread nor drank water, ^(D)because of all your sin which you had committed in doing what was evil in the sight of the Lord to provoke Him to anger.
