20 Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.

21 Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him.

31 So Moses went back to the Lord and said, “Oh, what a great sin these people have committed!(A) They have made themselves gods of gold.(B) 32 But now, please forgive their sin(C)—but if not, then blot me(D) out of the book(E) you have written.”

33 The Lord replied to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against me I will blot out(F) of my book. 34 Now go, lead(G) the people to the place(H) I spoke of, and my angel(I) will go before you. However, when the time comes for me to punish,(J) I will punish them for their sin.”

35 And the Lord struck the people with a plague because of what they did with the calf(K) Aaron had made.

33 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Leave this place, you and the people you brought up out of Egypt, and go up to the land I promised on oath(L) to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’(M) I will send an angel(N) before you and drive out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.(O) Go up to the land flowing with milk and honey.(P) But I will not go with you, because you are a stiff-necked(Q) people and I might destroy(R) you on the way.”

When the people heard these distressing words, they began to mourn(S) and no one put on any ornaments. For the Lord had said to Moses, “Tell the Israelites, ‘You are a stiff-necked people.(T) If I were to go with you even for a moment, I might destroy(U) you. Now take off your ornaments and I will decide what to do with you.’” So the Israelites stripped off their ornaments at Mount Horeb.(V)

31 And Moses returned unto the Lord, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.

32 Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin--; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.

33 And the Lord said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.

34 Therefore now go, lead the people unto the place of which I have spoken unto thee: behold, mine Angel shall go before thee: nevertheless in the day when I visit I will visit their sin upon them.

35 And the Lord plagued the people, because they made the calf, which Aaron made.

33 And the Lord said unto Moses, Depart, and go up hence, thou and the people which thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt, unto the land which I sware unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, Unto thy seed will I give it:

And I will send an angel before thee; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite:

Unto a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of thee; for thou art a stiffnecked people: lest I consume thee in the way.

And when the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned: and no man did put on him his ornaments.

For the Lord had said unto Moses, Say unto the children of Israel, Ye are a stiffnecked people: I will come up into the midst of thee in a moment, and consume thee: therefore now put off thy ornaments from thee, that I may know what to do unto thee.

And the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments by the mount Horeb.
