²⁴ My anger will be aroused, and I will kill you with the sword; your wives will become widows and your children fatherless.^(A)

¹⁰ Now leave me alone^(A) so that my anger may burn against them and that I may destroy^(B) them. Then I will make you into a great nation.”^(C)

¹¹ But Moses sought the favor^(D) of the Lord his God. “Lord,” he said, “why should your anger burn against your people, whom you brought out of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand?^(E)

Fire From the Lord

11 Now the people complained^(A) about their hardships in the hearing of the Lord,^(B) and when he heard them his anger was aroused.^(C) Then fire from the Lord burned among them^(D) and consumed^(E) some of the outskirts of the camp.

³³ But while the meat was still between their teeth^(A) and before it could be consumed, the anger^(B) of the Lord burned against the people, and he struck them with a severe plague.^(C)

¹³ The Lord’s anger burned against Israel^(A) and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until the whole generation of those who had done evil in his sight was gone.^(B)
